For Diabetes, Type 1 "Lantus has been a miracle for me. Prior to using it, my blood sugars were completely out of control. My numbers were so high at times, they wouldn't even register. I did everything my doctor told me to with no success. When I was taking R and N insulin, I'd have extreme highs and lows with my blood sugars. There simply was no regulation. Lantus so far has leveled out my blood sugar levels. I take it in conjunction with Humalog. Between the two, most of the spikes I've experienced have stopped. Although with the Humalog, I do have to be careful with hypoglycemic events. The combination of the two insulins is the only thing that's ever helped me. And I've been on everything you can imagine. It looks like I'll finally control my diabetes."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I am no longer taking Lantus. I was gaining weight and A1C was above 7 (157 average for 3 months). Lispro is working for me. As needed, I will inject an amount less. Insulin is what is helping with the weight. Only 50 days since I stopped taking not just Lantus but I was also on Trulicity. I have lost 10 pounds. I must say it was a life change for me. My diet was also changed. The continuous blood glucose monitoring is what really helped. Four times a day testing is not enough to show all, and when there is a spike from a food that should be avoided. Finding the foods that do not cause a spike will not be the same for everyone. My diet has changed with the help of my FREESTYLE 2. Lantus may work, I just did not lower my readings while on Lantus and Trulicity. Metformin and Glipizide (pills) did not work. For me, Lispro as needed is working to lower my blood glucose."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I started taking Basaglar two months ago. I had a massive headache for two weeks straight, although my sugar went from 250 to 152 while using 12u. Then, after the first two weeks, my headache went away, but my sugar went way back up to the 300s. Went back to the doc, and as per their instructions, I increased the insulin by 5u every 3 days. At first, there was no change. However, when I got to 20u, the persistent headaches started again, my vision blurred, I started to shake, and I broke out in a cold sweat. I had to leave work early for 2 days in a row because I couldn't cope. No pain meds, even Hydrocodone, would help. After reading these reviews and experiencing this myself, I'm not taking this drug."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "This med, Basaglar, is nothing like Lantus. My 12-year-old granddaughter was forced to switch from Lantus to Basaglar 8 months ago. The insurance will not pay for Lantus that she had been using for the previous 2 years. Within a week of using it, we knew this medication was not working and was causing her side effects. Her daytime glucose levels were very high. We had to double her short-acting insulin. At nighttime, her levels are dropping to 40 every few hours. The pen injector malfunctions frequently, jams, and I am convinced it dispenses an incorrect amount of units. I have to wake her up and load her with carbs to get her levels back up 2-4 times each night. If it were not for her Dexcom G6 alarm, I honestly think she would die in her sleep. She has headaches, abdominal pain, back pain, and leg cramps daily. She has respiratory issues ever since starting the med."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Was switched from Lantus to Semglee. Severe rash, itching all over body. Injection sites burn with rash and sores. I hate this stuff. Take it off the shelves. Going back to Lantus. Insurance companies should be held liable for making people change to this junk."

For Type 2 Diabetes "My insurance company switched me to this, and I have gone from my usual blood sugar of 90 to 120 to this morning 435. I have had muscle pain, night cramps, increased appetite, and weight gain. I hate this, and I am on my way to the emergency room because of it. I feel a lawsuit coming on. I think this is an experimental drug, and it’s hurting a lot of people. It's a shame the greed that exhibits itself in the drug industry."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have taken Toujeo for over a year. A1C down 1.5 points. I gained weight the first three months but leveled off. I take 60 units each morning. Also metformin 2000 mg a day. No bad side effects. Regulates my glucose readings. Very few plus 200. Usually 90-155. I’ll take it. I exercise three days a week but nothing Herculean. My diet is pretty low carb, but Toujeo allows for a little cheating. My dose continues to be okay for now. Thought this might encourage a few to give it a try."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Oral meds did not bring down the A1c nor the fasting blood sugars, which stayed in the 140s and kept climbing. I have now been on Lantus for 6 months, titrated dose every Saturday, increasing dose by 4 units per week until my fasting blood sugars are averaging 100, A1c is in normal range now. Have not had any hypoglycemia bouts, which happened with the oral meds. I give this insulin a two thumbs up."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I have diabetes type 1 with insulin resistance. Works well. I use 200u/day, 100 AM, 100 PM. It can burn quite a bit when injected, this is because Lantus is fairly acidic, with a pH of around 4. When the low pH hits the higher pH of the body, it forms microscopic crystals that are absorbed slowly. This precipitating action causes the burn as well as makes Lantus a long-acting insulin. It helps me to inject the 100 units in 2-3 sites, so less goes in per site. Also, be sure to leave the needle in for 15-30 seconds to avoid leakage. I'm a chemist by trade."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I've been on Basaglar for exactly 1 week now. Before I was taking Toujeo. In this one week alone, I've been hospitalized for DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis), and now I am experiencing facial swelling and hives. Yesterday I woke up with my blood sugar (BS) at 114 and decided to fast for most of the day to see if that would help keep me stable. Over the full 24 hours, I ate 2 apples and a little bit of quinoa. Before bed, my BS was at 524, which is much higher than it was when I went in for DKA. This stuff is not working, it's breaking me out, and it is making me fear for my life. Today is Christmas, and I am considering not eating at all because I do not wish to go into a coma. Thanks, Basaglar. I'm so frustrated right now, I have to fight to get my old meds back."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on Basaglar for about 6 months. I have used other types of insulin in the past. I find the pen hard to push when I am administering my insulin. I have a pen right now that is defective. I cannot push it to distribute the insulin. It seems stiff to turn to the number of units I need. I ended up using a new pen. I went to my pharmacy and talked to the pharmacist, and he said he could not replace the pen, that I needed to contact the company."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I was taking Lantus for years when my insurance made me switch to Basaglar. They told me Basaglar is pretty much the same as Lantus and just a cheaper generic version. But I had nothing but problems with Basaglar. As soon as I started taking it, I was having flu-like symptoms that never subsided. Basaglar is horrible and needs to be taken off the market."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Lantus does nothing for me except cause weight gain, debilitating lower back pain and spasms, sinusitis, chronic drippy nose that is beyond annoying, gastro issues, headache, heart palpitations, and anxiety. It also increases my fasting glucose by a solid 4 points. If this sounds like fun to you, have at it. I've tried this insulin more than once, and the side effects come faster and harder every time I play 'try this' with another doctor. Its sibling, the concentrated 'Toujeo,' is even worse. It really concerns me the comments some people make here about insulin and diabetes in general. The lack of education about meds, diabetes, and insulin is astounding. You absolutely can combine Lantus with short-acting insulin like Humalog or Novolog throughout the day, so ignore that review below. I also am baffled by the people who think they can leave Lantus out of the fridge for 2 months and not have it turn milky on them. Read the insert, people!"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I have been on Toujeo for two weeks, and my sugars have been disappointing, to say the least! My sugar was 113 @ BT and waking was 260!!! I have to take way too much N to cover my blood sugar during the day/after meals to make up for the Toujeo not effectively working! My chest has been hurting from stressing out, and my blood sugars have been so unstable with this new insulin. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TOUJEO FOR ANY TYPE 1 DIABETICS! PLEASE REMOVE FROM SHELF AND SAVE LIVES."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I would say I have experienced the same as many here. I was on Lantus, a very expensive insurance carrier forced me to take a cheaper drug to enhance their profit margin and not only forced me to buy from their preferred provider, CVS Caremark, but also switch to Basaglar. Since switching, my sugar has dramatically increased, especially in the morning for fasting blood sugar. This has forced me to increase my dosage, which doesn’t always work. I just got new insurance, and I sure as heck am getting back on Lantus!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "My insurance company changed from Toujeo to Basaglar last year. The pen does not give a consistent dosage, and there are also many air bubbles in the pen. Also, the pen does not glide easily. My A1C is not consistent. Next doctor's appointment, I am going to speak to him about increasing the dosage. I have complained to him about this pen. I also spoke to my pharmacist, and he told me there are other complaints about Basaglar."

For Type 2 Diabetes "When I realized I was diabetic, I was very ill. My vision went blurry, my tongue was bleeding, sores would form and not heal on my arms, so thirsty, urinating every 15 mins, etc. I have Type 2 diabetes and went on to Lantus as soon as the hospital released me. This is the best and safest way to keep your blood sugar levels normal. I have had control of my diabetes for 7 months now, and it is so easy. Had to see an endocrinologist today, and he tried to put me on Byetta, and I told him no way will you change me from my Lantus SoloStar, as it never makes me feel bad and always makes me feel good and in control. Lantus is really great."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have taken Toujeo for 1 1/2 years now. I have broken out with a rash and itching over my entire body for the past three months. I told my doctor, and he said that can't happen with insulin. I've been to three doctors, and they all tell me the same. I stopped taking Toujeo. The rash is starting to clear, but it is slow in clearing. There is nothing that helps."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Been on Toujeo for about 4 yrs now. I am taking 290 units of this insulin, and my numbers are still very high. 14-18 is pretty average. I feel I am taking way too much, and the more I take, the less effective it is becoming."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "My insurance company made me switch to Basaglar from Lantus. Worked okay for about 2-3 weeks, then my blood sugars were all over the place. Switched back to Lantus (after having to fight my insurance to cover it), and my blood sugars were perfect again. I wear a Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system and would watch my sugars not remain constant and pinball on Basaglar. Ever since I switched back to Lantus, they are perfect again. Do. Not. Switch. To. Basaglar."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Have been using Lantus for 3 weeks. Injecting 15-20 units per day and have not experienced a substantial reduction in glucose readings. Am upping dose to 24 units/day. Also have been taking 2.5 g of Metformin with insulin shots. When my glucose goes above 300, I need to take 4 mg of Glimepiride to knock it down."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I had awful side effects from Tresiba, so my doctor prescribed Novolog. My insurance refused to cover it, so I am now on Semglee. My blood glucose level has been better, however, it feels like I am injecting alcohol every time I use it. The burn is horrible."

For Type 2 Diabetes "About 1 1/2 weeks into using Toujeo, 50 units at night, I started having rapid heartbeat and constant extra/skipped heartbeats. Dr. said Toujeo could NOT cause that. Wore a halter monitor for 3 days. My Dr. asked me if I had always had an 'irregular heartbeat.' Hello? No Dr. ever told me that, and I never had one. You'd think my Dr. might know that? However, my nutritionist looked it up on her computer and said, 'Oh, I'm sorry to tell you this, but irregular heartbeat is one of the most common side effects of Toujeo.' I looked it up myself, and sure enough... there it was. I stopped on my own... about 3 weeks later, heartbeat slowly returned to normal. Toujeo caused??? YES, I think so."
