Dilaudid (hydromorphone) "Took oral Dilaudid after 4 failed back surgeries in 2012 & got stomach issues. Only thing that keeps me upright is Norco. Tried everything else, even Fentanyl & Butran patches. My Dr.has talked me into trying a computer chip distributing Dilaudid instead of my Norco orally! Does anyone know about this procedure? Thanks."

"Hydromorphone 4mg 4 to 5 times per day works very well at pain relief. An added benefit is no acetaminophen therefore you can take APAP as needed. For me the dilaudid starts to wear off at 4 hours and by 6 hours it is gone. No side effects except constipation which is true of any opioid. I take care of this with Senokot natural laxative every morning. I still have flareups but I treat that with Celecoxib 200mg until flair is gone."

"I'm a woman in my early 40's and was rear ended twice. First accident caused 5 back surgeries in L5-S1 and second caused a multi level fusion in C4-C6 with a herniated disc in C3-C4. I now have a bone spur at the bottom of C6 with arthritis and inflammation in C7-T1. Also get migraines, have post concussion syndrome, failed back syndrome, I have fibromyalgia, sciatica, stenosis, PTSD, radiculopathy and many more. I started with 10 my OxyContin twice daily and 10/325 Percocet 3-4 times daily. I had a massive flare up and hydromorphone IV worked like nothing I've ever had before. I asked my pain management dr to switch me. I started on 2mg now I'm up to 8mg 3-4 times daily. It takes about 20 minutes and wipes my pain away. I'm also on 30 mg of Oxycontin every 8 hours (90 mg daily). Recently the doctor tried having me wean a little bit down and the weather is so cold that I flared right back up. 8 mg of hydromorphone has been working for me and is a miracle drug."

"I've been on oxycodone for 3 years after a serious tractor-trailer accident that broke my back & femur until an ER doctor prescribed Dilaudid 2 mg (along with a small dose of diazepam) for me last week. I don't have the side effects of oxy when taking it & in my honest opinion, it's not nearly as addictive AND it works. I think the dose needs to be adjusted, but I'm definitely switching when I go back to my chronic pain doctor. It allows me to function in my busy daily life without sedation & feeling 'high'. The only problem is that it's hard for my pharmacy to get it right now. Chronic pain patients are suffering because of the addicts who abuse these medications & it's really not fair at all."

"I was given 12mg to start 2 times a day and had problems with constipation. ER means everything is extended. Did better taking one 16mg a day with oxy. The last time I was prescribed 7.5 mg and that was a waste of time and it caused me to be constipated. Not worth taking in the 7.5mg ER. It's like taking a 5mg Vicodin. No relief."
