"A doctor told me to take this med, guaifenesin, for my upper respiratory infection, and my goodness, did it make me sick. I'm nauseous, dizzy, and just really nervous ... I think I am going to go back to my doc and break his nose."

"Tried several consecutive doses of guaifenesin syrup as an expectorant in the later stages of a cold. It may have lessened coughing slightly for a couple of hours after each dose (hard to tell). Definitely no detectable effect on the amount or consistency of the mucus I coughed up. But the syrup does taste very much like medicine, so the placebo effect is great!"

"Taking 400 mg guaifenesin immediate-release tablets that are generic. It does help loosen mucus, so I am able to cough it up easily. I would like to try liquid, as I know that would work faster. You do need to drink more water to thin mucus and for dry mouth."

Guaifenesin "I highly recommend drinking large amounts of water with this medication. I was not aware to do so because it was nowhere to be found on the label, and it resulted in vomiting and the runs. After hours of this and speaking with a nurse, I was able to get it under control. Will not ever take again."

Guaifenesin "Seriously, the worst! Slightly numbs my tongue but not my throat. I’ve never tried a cough drop that doesn’t work. I thought because it’s a good brand they’d be great. But it’s awful. Now I’m sick and snowed in, so I can’t go to the store and stuck with these horrible cough drops!"

Guaifenesin "The packaging for Mucinex is a horrible nightmare. I could not open the bottle. I did the usual push down and turn knob, but it was impossible. My doctor suggested this and other drugs and antibiotics, but I couldn’t get it open - I am so sick that I took a knife to the lid, but it only produced a small slit. So I squeezed the bottle but only got a little out. This is a nightmare, and I will never buy this again. Zero time on medication as I could not get to it."

Guaifenesin "The side effect was sleeplessness. First night, I was up until 4:00 AM, next night up until 07:00 AM, and again last night I could not sleep. I was taking the Mucinex as prescribed every 12 hours."
