"I have been taking Junel Fe 1.5/30 for many years (switched from Loestrin to Microgestin, this is my second generic version). I LOVE this pill. It has not caused any negative side effects for me and always made my period very light and short (2-3 days long). I sometimes skip my period week on purpose by moving on to the next pill pack early instead of taking the placebo pills for a week. However, after skipping on purpose a couple of times in a row, I have now not had a period for 4 months WITHOUT skipping my placebo pills! I was very concerned but have taken pills regularly and taken many pregnancy tests and am NOT pregnant. I have heard from others this brand is known to cause light or no periods."

"I started with the lower dose 1/20. It didn't give me my period, so I asked my doctor to up my dose to 1.5/30. About 2 weeks after taking it, I got my period, but about 2 weeks after, I started feeling TERRIBLE side effects. I felt depressed and started to have bad anxiety and panic attacks. I had heart palpitations and couldn't even eat anything without getting nauseous and throwing up. I lost 5 pounds in less than 2 weeks. I thought I was just mentally unstable, but after taking a break off them for 2 days, I started to feel normal again. These pills were literally making me SICK. I just tried taking the lower dose of the birth control today and almost had a panic attack. Even the lower dose doesn't do me well at all. I am officially stopping this medication immediately, it's confirmed that it is bad for my body, my mind, and my overall health. Please consider your birth control as a suspect before anything else, your every birth control can affect you differently."

"I took Junel Fe 1.5/30 for five years, from the time that I was 18 to the time that I was 23. I took it at the same time every day and never had a single pregnancy scare. Please, girls, remember: birth control is hugely personal. Our hormones are so sensitive. What works for one may not work for another. I would say that the first three years of the pill were fine for me, and I had no issues except for one. That issue? I would fall asleep every early afternoon and sleep for two or three hours. I needed a nap. It was a family joke, a friend group joke. I never connected it to my birth control. That issue was the same issue for the full five years. The last two years on it, however, I also lost my libido and felt totally disinterested in sex and less joyful than I'd ever felt. That was really the last straw for me, and I went off it in November of 2020. Within a month, my sex drive was back, I wasn't sleeping all afternoon, and I felt better than I'd ever felt."

"Please do not take this specific birth control pill if you already deal with anxiety or depression. I have been taking Junel for 10 months, and the last month of taking it, I experienced crippling anxiety. I had panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. I had the random thought to check out the side effects of Junel since it was the only prescription medicine I was taking and was shocked by the reviews. It seems pretty 50/50, but most of the people who had bad experiences talked about anxiety being a huge issue. I also realized the things I had been dealing with for months are also listed under side effects (hair loss, water retention, difficulty wearing contacts, insomnia, leg cramps, reduced tolerance to carbs) and quickly decided to discontinue use. It has only been just over a week, but I can already feel such a difference. I still experience anxiety daily, but such a little amount compared to before. I did read it can take a few months for side effects to go away."

"I've been on this pill since I was 16, and now I'm 21. I take this pill as continuous birth control and never get my period. I have nothing bad to say about this pill and will continue to take it as long as needed. It's great!"

"I love this pill because it takes my appetite away, and that's a good thing. No breast tenderness. No breakthrough bleeding or nausea. No hair loss. I don't know if it is doing what it's supposed to be doing. It's too early to tell. But I'm not cramping and bleeding excessively. That's good, but even if I were, that no appetite thing is the bomb diggity!"

"I've been using NuvaRing for the past 7 years, which I loved. I'm about to lose my insurance, so I decided to make the switch back to the pill for a cheaper out-of-pocket expense. I heard horror stories about this pill but wanted to share my experience since it's been nothing but great! Although I loved NuvaRing, I had zero sex drive and was constantly bloated, whether I was on my period or not. Since starting Junel, the bloating has stopped and my sex drive is up. I haven't noticed any mood swings or increased anxiety or sadness. I do experience breakouts, but only when I'm on the week break before my next pack. My period is about 4 days long, it immediately starts, like a couple of hours after the first placebo, but again it only lasts 3-4 days. All in all, this pill has been really effective for me. I know everyone's experience with birth control is different, but I wanted to share a positive experience about this pill specifically."

"To keep this short and sweet, because of this birth control Junel Fe 1.5/30, I got a blood clot in my lung and had to be admitted to the hospital and be put on blood thinners. This pill is actually so awful, between the 24/7 period cramps, rapid mood swings and super dark thoughts, and nearly puking every day for a week and two days. May 7th, 2019, marks the day an ER doctor told me I had a blood clot due to the Junel. Two ER docs questioned me on why I was even taking this, so stay the away from this. And NEVER EVER take this."

"I was switched to this birth control after Gildess was recalled. I did great on Gildess, but as soon as I was switched, I started to notice some differences. My appetite was insane. I'd eat a huge amount of food and immediately feel hungry afterward. I gained about 15 pounds in the 6-month period in which I took it. As soon as I got off of it, the problem went away."

"I took Junel Fe for three cycles, and gosh, was it a mess. I'm 5'3" and weighed 123 starting it. At the end, when I switched BC, I weighed 114. This made me severely nauseous, moody, and just made my anxiety horrendous. I would cry for no reason and overreact. I give major props to my boyfriend for dealing with me... It got so bad to the point where he loved the placebo week because I didn't have nearly as bad of a reaction. However, I never got pregnant on this BC, so it does what it claims. Props to it. I know BC is different for everyone, so don't let this discourage you. I'm just sharing my experience..."

"I absolutely love Junel Fe. It's the first pill I've tried, and so far, I wouldn't change anything. My periods are light and short but regular. I haven't gained any weight, but the pill seems to be aiding in weight loss as I work out a fair amount. No nausea. I have been getting more anxious lately, and I do worry that may be a side effect, but I am a person with anxiety disorders in general, so I'm not too sure. I've had an increase in my sex drive as well, and I haven't gotten pregnant, which is the important part here."

"I've been taking Junel for a little over two months now. I switched from Microgestin 1/20 (because they discontinued it) to Gildess 1/20, and let me tell you, I'm so much happier with Junel. I loved Microgestin, and Gildess just couldn't do it for me. Despite taking it every day without missing a day or time, I had breakthrough bleeding and a lot of heavy spotting. But now? I don't have that. I do have some emotional polarity at times because of the new pill, and I have experienced bloating (but I also have IBS-C, which doesn't help). But people need to realize that you can't bash a pill because it doesn't work for you. It works great for others and awful for others simply because of how your body functions. Junel does its job as a BC pill very well."

"Horrible birth control experience! I do not recommend this method to anyone. I've only been taking the pill for about a week, and I've been in the ER and urgent care for extreme chest/back pain and trouble breathing. My lung is now inflamed as a side effect of this pill (Junel Fe). This pill has affected my daily life and caused a lot of unexpected medical expenses. I am a very healthy 29-year-old with no history of health problems. I do not smoke either. Very unfortunate situation. Please do your research before taking this pill."

"Listen, I have been taking Junel Fe 1.5/30 birth control for 2 weeks, and my side effects are nausea, occasional vomiting, low sex drive, dry vagina, painful vagina, dizziness, insomnia, weird heart fluttery feelings, and headaches. It's been two weeks, and I genuinely feel near death. Ohhh, and I've started to get bumps on my face. Getting off of this as soon as I possibly can."

"I am 27 years old, and this pill is a godsend. I used to have heavy, painful, irregular periods. But after starting the pill, my periods are regular enough I can predict them down to the hour, they are very light and short, and I have almost no cramping at all! I've been taking them for 6 months and have no intention of stopping."

"I took this for around 6 months, and I'm not pregnant yet. I'm moving to a different pill because it mainly caused some depression and weird mood swings. I didn't see a change in my weight, and my skin did clear slightly. My breasts grew about a cup. It's an effective pill, just not for me because of the effects it had on my mood."

"This is the WORST birth control I have ever taken. I have been between 3 different types due to insurance. This made me depressed the whole month I was on it. It completely changed my personality. I have had headaches often, which I would rarely have before. Microgestin 1.5/30 is what I was on before, and it was great. Please don't take this if you want to have stable mental health. I had no prior history of poor mental health until this."

"I’ve been taking the Junel Fe 1.5/30 for two years now. This is the first and only birth control pill I’ve taken, so I can’t compare it to any other experience. I suffered from severe panic-attack-inducing cramps before I took Junel Fe, and I never have had any bad cramps since then. I have a regular, light flow with this pill with no pregnancy scares thus far. My face has cleared up almost completely, and it’s the best it’s ever looked. This pill amplified my anxiety for the first few months, but I hadn’t associated it with the pill, so I never stopped using it. However, after two years, my anxiety and depression are completely gone... I’m not sure if I should associate that with the pill, though. I was kind of shocked to see so many negative reviews. But everyone’s experience is different. All I wanted was to stop having such painful periods."

"I am shocked to see so many bad reviews for this! I started on the lower dose Junel in January 2014 and experienced breakthrough bleeding on and off for a few months. It was annoying since I had just gotten married, and my husband can't stand the sight of blood. So, I switched to a different pill. The new pill caused depression and anxiety. I then switched to another one, causing even worse anxiety. So, my doctor decided that since I didn't have any emotional issues with Junel, I should just try the stronger pill. Since being on the stronger pill, I have gained a little weight (but not sure that is due to the pill rather than a happy marriage), and my hair has thinned out a little (only noticeable to me). Other than that, my emotional issues due to my birth control are GONE. I would recommend trying this pill for about 2 months before scratching it from your list, all birth control pills will take a little bit to get used to. Hope this helps!"

"Worst birth control on the planet. I experienced every negative side effect immediately after starting it (nausea, headaches, bloating, fatigue, complete brain fog, dizziness, horrible cystic acne), and now, after deciding to completely quit it 4 months later due to these side effects, I got diagnosed with a DVT. A freaking blood clot in my leg, after being on this for only 4 months. And, after reading other reviews, it doesn't sound like I am the only one who has experienced this. Hundreds of dollars later for tests and medication, now I have to take blood thinners for 3 months. Stay away from this medication!"

"I love this BC. I take it at the same time every day, and I haven't had any problems. It made my periods lighter and has been effective. I can't believe all the bad reviews because I have tried so many others with bad outcomes and switched to this one, and it was the answer to my prayers!"

"I was on the lower dose and constantly had breakthrough bleeding for a month straight, so my doctor switched me to the higher dose. Within a year, I gained 20 lbs. Before this, I never had any problem with weight gain and could always lose weight, no problem. Now, it is so difficult to lose any weight. It made me super depressed, and I have really bad anxiety now. It completely depleted all of my sex drive."

"Caused the wildest mood swings and made my body itch like crazy. I've cried 3 times tonight, and once while having dinner with the family. And this is only day #2 of taking this new BC (originally switched from Microgestin). Never taking again."

"I started this pill before I went off to college, and it is an absolute godsend! After the first couple of months of spotting both the second and fourth weeks, I haven't gotten my period since. I have had no weight gain and only increases in acne when I am extremely stressed. I also have some spotting during the active weeks if I am stressed. I have been taking this pill for about a year and a half, and I absolutely love it! I highly recommend."

"My experience was good. My acne cleared up, menstrual cycle light, no mood swings. I have been taking the birth control pill at the same time every day. Taking the pill at different times of the day could cause hormonal imbalance, in return cause all these bad symptoms."
