For Birth Control "Been on this pill for about 8 months (changed from Microgynon), and I've had a mixed experience. Periods are much lighter and less painful than ever before, which is much better! However, have found if I take pill packets back to back, I always get breakthrough bleeding, which I haven't had with previous pills. Boobs have become more sensitive and got bigger, which I don't mind! But it's also meant I've put on almost a stone in 4 months without my lifestyle changing (I eat healthily, exercise regularly, have always had a good metabolism). Which has been really awful for my self-esteem. This pill has given me high anxiety, made me feel depressed all the time. Really wouldn't recommend this pill."

For Acne "Been on Yasmin a total of 6 months now for acne, and although initially it helped get rid of some spots, for the most part my skin hasn't changed. I've gained more weight, and my face appears bloated. Mood swings were an issue towards the beginning, but okay now. After 6 months and no real improvement, I don't know whether to wait it out or try something new."

For Birth Control "This was my last resort to try to fix my PCOS. I asked my doctor, and she said Yasmin might work. It did for a little. I had my first period in over 18 months! Which was great because I want to settle down. However, over the last 10 months, I have gained over 40 pounds, and I can NOT get rid of it. I am sleepy all the time, I am water bloated CONSISTENTLY. I only had my period one time in that 10 months. This was horrible, and I am going to go back to my old BC."

For Birth Control "I don't normally leave reviews, but this page has helped me so much today I feel to share my experiences in the hope that it will help others, too. I started taking Yasmin 4 months ago, and everything was fine for the first 2 packs. Periods were very short and light, skin was clear, no problems at all. I'm a first-time mum, so my stress levels are always high, so when I started feeling bouts of anxiety I thought nothing of it. 2 months on, and I feel like I'm a different person, I cry every day, bouts of uncontrollable rage, lethargy, depression - the works! Stupidly, I didn't put 2 and 2 together until the weight gain began, almost 1 kg per month! Suffice to say this pill isn't for everybody!"

For Birth Control "This pill is the worst! I gained a lot of weight rapidly on this pill. I feel depressed most days, or I'll have the odd day where I feel amazing out of nowhere before plummeting back down again. My skin has broken out badly since I started taking it as well! I had none of these problems before starting this pill. My body feels disgusting because of this pill - it's not worth taking! Avoid!"

For Menstrual Disorders "I was prescribed Yasmin for my extremely painful periods and adult acne. I can honestly say that in terms of my period, Yasmin has been life-changing. Before, I was crippled and taking a combination of 50 pain relief tablets over a 5-day period, waking up in the night in pain and also struggling to work. Now I have basically no period pain at all and have to take zero pain relief medication... such a difference! My period was always pretty light, but now it’s almost nothing! The first month I had lots of breakthrough bleeding, but now nothing. In terms of my skin, I can definitely see a big improvement. It’s working much slower for this, however (I’ve been on it 3 months). Otherwise, no real side effects - my mood is good and no weight loss or gain."

For Birth Control "Unfortunately, Yasmin just isn’t for me. I started it about a month ago, and after reading some mixed reviews, I was hopeful that I would be one of those who had no side effects. Shame to say that has not been the case. First week, I had awful headaches, nausea, and fatigue followed by extreme mood swings. By the second week, the mood swings had gone, but I became bloated, constipated, and ravenously hungry at random points during the day. I have gained weight already, and my muscles have started to ache. Throwing them in the bin tomorrow and hoping to feel better as soon as possible! With that being said, pills work differently for everyone, so I would recommend trying it first."

For Acne "Yasmin worked a miracle for my acne. I suffered extremely bad acne on my back, chest, and some on my face. Within a month or two, it was almost completely cleared up. Then I went off it. As far as weight, I actually believe since being off Yasmin I've gained weight, and my acne is back worse than ever. I've just got my new script for the next lot, and I'm so excited!!!"

For Birth Control "I am 22, and I've been taking Yasmin for almost a year, and it's pretty much okay. My skin is clear, and cramps and PMS are a lot better than before. Side effects, though, are weight gain (around 13 lbs), along with bigger boobs and everything, which is really not great. Also, I have zero sex drive, which is making me feel bad. I am thinking about switching to a lower dosage pill, but I'm not sure about other pills because I have migraines, and I'm worried it'll get worse (Yasmin didn't really affect it)."

For Birth Control "I've been on this pill for 2 weeks now, and it's horrendous. My skin was perfect, now my skin is really bad, and I'm having outbreaks every day. My mood swings are bad, and all of a sudden, from being the happiest person on earth, I'm becoming depressed and distant. I have an 8-month-old daughter, and this is not on. I am also feeling so nauseous all the time, and I can't stop eating. I'm a professional dancer, and I've gained weight despite dancing 12 hours a day. This pill is absolute rubbish."

For Birth Control "I lasted only 1 month on this pill. As soon as I started taking this, I was an emotional, angry, anxious mess. Everything either made me angry or it made me cry. I was also exhausted all the time. I normally work out 2-3 times a week, but I noticed I was so tired every day, I only worked out maybe once a week. As for weight gain, I think I might have gained some water weight, but nothing too noticeable. It didn't affect my appetite too much either. I was on Junel Fe before, which was great until the very end, where I started getting abnormal periods. I'm on my placebo/period week now and cramping and heavy flow. Two things I didn't have much of with Junel. I'm switching to Apri next week, and praying it works better for me!"

For Birth Control "Been on it for approximately 10 years. I had no crazy side effects. Maybe a bit of weight gain, libido loss. It took away the minimal acne I did have. One thing I have been noticing, maybe the last couple of years, is terrible migraines on the placebo week. Like constant, will not go away with 6 (spread throughout the day) Advil/Tylenol/Excedrin. Because of this, I am considering getting off of it and giving my body a break. But all in all, I wouldn't say this birth control was terrible."

For Birth Control "This pill ruined my life. Before taking this, I had very mild acne. Two weeks into the first pack, and my skin was so bad I wouldn’t leave my house. I’d never experienced anything like it before. My mood swings were crazy, I’d cry constantly for no reason! I became extremely depressed, and I had a very short temper. It killed my energy, made me fat. Oh, and my hair fell out, and I got terrible melasma on my upper lip and nose (which still hasn’t gone away...). My doctor told me to stick it out for three months. I hoped for the best, but on month five, I had to call it quits. I’ve been off of it for six months now, and my skin and mood have slightly improved, but I’m still trying to undo the terrible effects caused by this pill. My skin and hair haven’t been the same since."

For Birth Control "I started taking Yasmin 3 months after I had my baby. I've gained weight, feel low/anxious from time to time, leg pain, random hot flushes, very angry over nothing (I've never been an angry person) and just feel all over a bit rubbish with my relationships. My baby will be a year old next month, and today is my last day taking this pill. It never clicked with me that this is causing my low mood, etc."

For Acne "Acne: For me, the Yasmin pill has been wonderful in clearing my acne. I did notice the first two months that my acne increased a little, with large cystic bumps under the skin that I had not experienced before. However, these bumps went away very quickly if I didn’t pop or touch them. After around month 3, my acne started to clear, and within a month, I was not getting any new breakouts. So far, it’s been the only thing that actually works for me. I must also add that while starting Yasmin, I was also on antibiotics, which possibly reduced the purge. I have been taking it for 6 months now and usually, I actually don’t take a stop week to get my period (unless I break through). Side effects: I have not experienced any major side effects other than my boobs growing quite a bit and possibly a bit of weight gain. For the first month, I had headaches and mood swings which have luckily gone."

For Acne "I have been taking Yasmin for years. I primarily use it for my skin but also for birth control (I’d use another pill if it was just for birth control due to the risks associated with it). Having tried many pills, this has been the best for my skin, which I would say is virtually completely clear. I would have acne otherwise (and I’m in my 30s). I haven’t gotten pregnant yet either, so the birth control element is good. I do get headaches with it, but I do with other pills too, and I can’t say with certainty that if I came off the pill, that would stop the headaches. My mood seems fine on it, I haven’t noticed any changes, and I don’t suffer from depression. I do get a bit of light spotting in between periods, but I have had this investigated and nothing concerning has been found. I may have put a bit of weight on with this pill, but nothing dramatic, and again it’s hard to say if the pill is responsible (the older you get, the more your metabolism slows down). I can’t complain so far."

For Birth Control "I went on Yasmin when I was 16. I hated it, the worst thing that I could have done. I was extremely depressed, irritated, bloated, gained 10 lbs, sleepy, no sex drive. I would have rather had a baby and 9 months of normal than go through that kind of depression. We used condoms ever since stopping, and now we are healthy, happy, and married with 2 kids. To this day, still on no hormonal BC."

For Birth Control "I started Yasmin a year ago after some complications with my birth control. I found not a whole lot of side effects while on it besides being very sad and angry. Reading the reviews, I think my hair has thinned out as well. Going off Yasmin is a whole different story. I stopped my birth control in hopes of preparing my body to get pregnant. Going off, I did not get my period for 2 months, to begin with, now it's all irregular periods since October. Since my last period, it has been 50 days. I'm concerned for my fertility now too. Besides not getting my period, I have gained 15 pounds. Summer is coming fast, and I am struggling to get back to my normal weight. I am making a doctor's appointment today as I feel this pill possibly gave me pill-induced PCOS or something along those lines. I will never take birth control, especially this one."

For Menstrual Disorders "I began taking Yasmin when it first came out, i.e., around 1999 or so, for irregular periods. My PCP recommended birth control, and after researching them all, I chose Yasmin as it touted the fact that the progestin (drospirenone) contained a diuretic. After a few months, I started having anxiety, insomnia, and eventually horrible depression. On the upside, because the drospirenone is an anti-androgenic progestin, my hair grew incredibly long and thick, and stupid vanity kept me on it. On balance, I would not suggest this pill as a form of birth control for anyone. I eventually gained 15 lbs after a couple of years of use and was an emotional wreck, which impacted my career. My hormones never really returned to normal after stopping it either."

For Acne "I was on Yasmin for 1 year and 3 months and recently went off it because I was shedding so much hair. My hair stylist said I looked like I was going bald around the crown of my head. On top of that, I gained between 6-8 kg in the past 1 year. However, it works well for birth control and acne control. No pimples sighted during the days I was on the medication."

For Acne "I decided to try Yasmin after suffering from adult acne for years. After nearly 5 months, my face is still covered in 15-20 spots at a time. I also gained 30 pounds in 2.5 months. I feel depressed and anxious all the time. I can’t wait to switch to something else. The high risk of stroke with this one is not worth the supposed benefits. The only positive: it does not dry me out down there. I read all the reviews before starting it and had high hopes, but it was bad for me."

For Birth Control "I was only on this for a year and six months. I love this birth control, my skin looks great because of it, and I haven't had any weight gain. Unfortunately, at my year mark, I started having two periods a month, and my doctor has switched me off. Even two periods a month were better than what was happening before I started taking this birth control. I'll miss this birth control, I would definitely take it again."

For Birth Control "I've been on Yasmin for about 5 years now. In the beginning, it seemed really good as I was put on it because the one oral pill I was taking at the time ended up being discontinued. My body seemed to adjust well to the change. Recently, I have realized just how much taking this pill has taken a toll on me over the years I have been using it. I've gained weight, am more full of anxiety than I have ever been, and I am in a constant state of fear from it. Depression is tenfold, low sex drive, and now an increased amount of breast pain on my left side. Just recently, there were about two days I had to wait to refill my prescription. So those two days, I wasn't taking it - beforehand, I was experiencing 100/10 breast tenderness and pain more on my left side than my right even after a menstrual cycle. The two days I was off it, I had no breast pain whatsoever. When my prescription got filled and I started taking it again, this breast pain has come back."

For Birth Control "I started on Yasmin when I was 17 due to terrible cramping, mood swings, and back pain. The pill is a lifesaver, and I cannot recommend it enough. I will say I did slightly gain weight, but that was probably the only side effect I noticed."

For Birth Control "This pill helped my PCOS, caused me to gain 8 kg, and my boobs are way larger. I’m really bloated a lot of the time when I eat any kind of fast food. The first few months on this pill, I was quite emotional and bled constantly, but this stopped after about 3 months, and I felt better. I got depressed when I stopped taking a pill for a break (which was advised by my doctor). But it made me so sad and anxious. I would cry every day and think that my boyfriend was cheating on me. I take a pill break to allow a break from the hormones, which stops them from building up in my body, and I feel way better. I started working out a lot to help my mood swings and anxiety, which helped with mood. The pill helped my skin a tiny bit (I am also on oxytetracycline now, which has helped so much in combination with the pill). If you take this pill, you need to be working out a lot and eating really healthy, just looking after yourself in general in order to minimize the negative effects. It is a good pill compared to others."
