Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I was reluctant to try a birth control for PMDD. I wasn't too confident it would help, and was concerned it would make me worse or something. However, after 2 months of being on Yasmin, I noticed GREAT improvement!! The first month I might have noticed about 25% improvement, but still had depression (which can get really bad 1 week prior to period). Second month, I noticed about a 70% improvement in PMS symptoms. Third month I noticed an additional improvement. I still get moody, but not severely depressed. This BC truly has helped me so so much. I just want to write my experience so others with PMDD can have hope."

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I have suffered extreme PMS all my life but didn’t know what it was. When I was in my late teens, I was on Yaz for polycystic ovaries, and then one day the doctor said we don’t prescribe that pill anymore and gave me Microgynon. Well, that was it, years of feeling crazy and depressed. I had lots of failed relationships; I was a bit crazy. I eventually got a new doctor who gave me Yaz again, and things changed. I fell pregnant twice on Yaz and have two beautiful boys. After that, they refused to give it to me; so, roll on another 10 years of trying everything. My husband even had the snip so I didn’t have to take anything. I was watching the TV a year and a half ago, and they were talking about PMDD as a disorder, and I said, “OMG, that is me.” Lots of research, and I eventually got Yaz again. They didn’t want to give it to me as I was obese and over 35, but I begged. Yes, I get sore, heavy breasts, but for the first time in 10 years, I’ve lost weight, I feel happy, and my life is completely normal."

Loryna (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I see so many negative reviews for Loryna but I thought I would write a positive one because there's probably a girl out there who was just like me and scared to death to switch birth controls because of all the horrid reviews. I took generic Ortho Tri Cyclen (Trinessa) for several years because I have acne alongside my need for BC. Ortho made me into a lunatic. It ramped up my emotions to the point of me damn near becoming psychotic. When I gave birth to my daughters I tried the Copper IUD, had it almost 3 years but got sick of the CONSTANT bleeding I was having. decided to get back on Ortho Tri Cyclen (this time called Tri-Lo-Mili) and immediately became a raging psychopath after only a few days of taking it. Now granted, I would've stuck it out, but I remembered how I was during the 3 years of Trinessa and the feelings were the exact same. I switched to Loryna and the first day there was immediate mental relief. I've had 0 negative side effects. Love this BC so much."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I’ve been on this pill for more than a decade. No issues. Slight nausea and a mild yeast infection when starting it, but those went away after the first few weeks, and after that I had 10 years of light periods, clear skin, nice hair, and stable mood. Sex drive was slightly reduced, but not enough to cause problems. I went off Yasmin for a few years to try the Paragard and honestly it’s been frustrating. Sex isn’t as much fun because I’m bleeding or PMSing for three quarters of the month, plus my periods, while not medically problematic, are annoyingly irregular - and they come with seven days of insomnia. Being on the pill put a stop to that for me. Yes, there have been a few benefits of being off it, but on balance, my natural hormones are not the magical fairy tale I keep seeing touted on the internet. I’m not saying everyone should take Yasmin, but if you’re thinking about taking it and are anxious about side effects, know that for some of us it ends up being fine."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Acne "I am 24 years old. Before I started Yasmin, I felt like I was trapped in a 47-year-old's body; always tired, moody, angry, and never seemed to lose weight. I've also tried every acne product known. None of them work (not for me anyway) until one day, I saw a commercial on television about 'Yasmin'. After talking it over with my doctor, he told me to try it and see. WOW! Let me tell you what happened to me. I kid you not, after the 1st week, my face was clear, I mean beautiful. I didn't have to wear any makeup, and I lost 10 lbs within the first month. And for some strange reason, people don't call me bipolar anymore. I tell you, Yasmin works from inside out. It is GREAT."

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I’ve taken this Yaz pill for about 2 months and I’m going off of it now. The anxiety and depression that came with this were not worth it. Sometimes, it came at the end of the pack, but I had terrible emotional problems all month long. I would cry for no reason, have multiple panic attacks a day, and have way too many self deprecating thoughts. I’ve never had problems with periods before (no mood swings, cramps, bloating) but after starting this, I’ve experienced all of those. It’s been difficult to find a birth control pill that doesn’t come with emotional problems warranting antidepressants. I don’t know if I’ll ever find one."

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Acne "Okay guys, I desperately searched this site two months ago when my acne was horrific. I had started Yaz for the acne and it instantly got worse for the first month, and it felt really hopeless. BUT, it’s been 3 months now (the amount of time they say to wait) and it’s so, so, so much better. Please stick with this if you have hormonal acne, it helped me so much."

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I love Yaz. It changed my life. My periods used to be hell; I would sometimes end up in the hospital. Throwing up and taking hard painkillers was all I could do the first few days. Not to mention PMS...I used to get very depressed before my period and not feel like myself. Only one week per month, I would live normally without my menstrual cycle affecting me. Since I started taking Yaz, I'm reborn. The first month I had side effects like sore breasts and a bigger appetite, but after the first month or two, everything regulated and I'm feeling better than ever! My period lasts for 3 days (it used to be 7) and it's almost painless! PMS doesn't even exist! And on top of everything, I don't have to fear unwanted pregnancy! Highly recommend it."

Nikki (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I’ve been taking Nikki for almost a full month now. At first I was so nervous it was going to make me depressed and gain weight after reading all these reviews. However, I started working out more and watching what I eat and I’ve only lost weight in the last month. My mood seems the same besides I cry easier than I did before starting Nikki. Don’t let all these reviews scare you it’s important to see how your body reacts to it."

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Acne "Just started my 4th month on Yaz. Zero side effects and my period and regular, shorter, and lighter, which I really like. My weight has stayed the same, which I’m also happy with. The main reason I went on Yaz to help my acne and I am still seeing no results in the 4th month. My skin is super clogged, greasy, and filled with pimples. I’ll probably switch if it doesn’t make a difference within the next few months."

Please talk w doctor and don’t get scared from the reviews. People only want to review if they had a negative experience! I’ve gained no weight, not depressed, and I'm so much happier bc my acne is gone"

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I started taking Yaz at age 17 to deal with PMDD and cystic acne that only popped up the week before my period but would always need steroid injections and then scar for months. It dealt with my PMDD like nothing has before or since taking it. I no longer felt like a prisoner to my emotions or on a rollercoaster from hormones! My skin looked like porcelain. However, it does have side effects. After 5 years, I started noticing some hair thinning. I go to the bathroom more often on this than I do off it. My periods were light or non-existent to the point I thought, 'how could this be healthy?' After 10 years, I decided my body needed a break so I went off it. Well, in the last year, my skin has ruined itself with cysts and my moods before my period range from homicidal maniac to so severely sad and depressed that puppy food commercials make me cry. I am going back on Yaz next week. You have to decide if the side effects are worth it for you. For me, I can't live like this anymore."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Acne "Started Yasmin mid November after suffering from outbreaks of persistent chin acne that wouldn’t go away. First couple of weeks were fine, then came the outbreak, I didn’t break out everywhere on my face just my chin, but it was inflamed & painful, took time to heal, and hit my self esteem big time. I’m 38 always been an acne sufferer, had roaccutane at 21, which worked for a while, but after having my children my chin would flare quite severely. I was on Yasmin years ago and decided to try it again, to try and also help my heavy monthly’s to! I’m now into my third packet of pills and I’ve finally started to clear! No new outbreaks and scarring is fading nicely, my periods have been lighter & in myself it’s the best I’ve felt in a long time with PMS symptoms. For anyone struggling with the initial acne outbreak it does get better, it may not seem so right now but it does, I also used a 10% benzoyl peroxide and simple range to wash my face. Good luck x"

I’ve read the reviews here religiously saying it would get better after 3 months. This is not the case! My acne got worse as soon as I started taking it month 1 was terrible also 2 and now I honestly see no difference. Please tell me if someone shared the same experience I don’t know what to do"

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I have been on Yaz for 3 and a half years, and I have not had any issues. I have regular periods. I have no weird side effects. I fluctuate in weight by 5 pounds now off and on. I read all of the scary lawsuits against Yaz, talked to my doctors, and the lawsuits failed to mention the other issues that girls had other than just the common factor that they were taking Yaz. PLEASE DON'T BE SCARED OF IT. I was, and it's a stress you don't need. I have been fine, and many others have too."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "My contraceptive pill has been switched 4 times in the last 2 and a half years and I can honestly say the last 3 months on this pill have been the worst of my life. Wouldn’t normally write a review on this sort of thing but I just want to say if you’re experiencing higher than normal levels of anxiety, depression, paranoia, anger etc please get off this Yasmin pill as soon as possible it turned me into a different person - look into other birth control/ acne control options. My periods normally average 2-3 days, I have been HEAVILY bleeding for a week now, this has not happened on any of my other pills, it’s honestly not worth the clear skin many other pills do the same job with skin without making you depressed. I thought I was going crazy but after reading all the reviews on this MY STORY IS EXACTLY THE SAME DO NOT TAKE THIS PILL!!!!"

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Acne "I must say this is GOD sent. I was on Yasmin for polycystic ovarian syndrome and birth control! At first, I didn't know that it would help with my acne, but it did help... wow! I was acne-free for the five years that I was on Yasmin. I could actually go out without foundation; it was amazing. BUT for the past five months, I came off the pill because I wanted to start my family, the biggest mistake I ever made! My acne came back full-blown and even worse than before. In those five months, I tried every topical and home remedy, but sad to say, nothing worked. Now I'm back on the pill, only four days in, and I'm already seeing a drastic improvement where my acne is concerned."

Nikki (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Acne "I want to remind y’all that everyone’s body is different, so the side effects and bad experiences people post does not mean they will happen to you! I was freaking out bc I started this Nikki birth control pill and then looked at the reviews and everyone made it seem AWFUL. However, my experience has been great!!!! Cleared my acne and the only side effect was the first few days after taking the pill I would get stomach cramps that would go away, but was all normal bc body is just getting used to hormones. I haven’t gained a pound, not depressed at all, maybe a little bit more a temper but nothing terrible, no breast tenders but they look fuller! and no nausea. please just don’t get freaked out about the reviews because everyone’s body reacts differently."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I have been on Yasmin for 11 years now consistently and have absolutely zero issues, complaints, or problems. No weight gain, clear skin, and my moods are as normal and fluctuate based on my regular monthly hormone fluctuations. However, I see numerous comments on the first few weeks from users, and it's important to know that everyone is different! We are all built uniquely, and our bodies have a one-of-a-kind reaction to anything, particularly birth control. I'm a nurse in the public health sector, and I advise all my patients to give their new birth control at least 3 months before deciding to call it quits. There's a lot of hormones going into your body at once, and you need to let it settle! Good luck with whatever contraception you choose."

Nikki (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I’m so glad I took the leap and decided to take this birth control. I was suppose to get YAZ, but my doctor prescribed me this instead. BOY, was I worried from all these reviews. I was about to just throw the pack out from the horror stories. This stuff saved my life. I no longer suffer from cramps, my PMS is tamed, and my painful breakouts are gone. It’s a dream come true. As for libido... it’s still there! I did drop a star from the review because I don’t get as wet as I used to. But this is normal on BC and that’s what lube is for, haha. Everyone’s body is different, ladies. Embrace the trial and error phases and find what works best for you <3"

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I started taking Yasmin only 2 weeks ago and I’m already stopping, I feel angry all the time, crying, not myself, I feel like a dark cloud is over me and feel like I have depression. It’s been nerve wracking leaving the house, going to work and it’s like I’m loosing my mind. I went on it to help with PCOS because of my irregular periods and PMS, feel like I can’t win, can’t find a pill that works for me and struggle with mood swings and hormones when I’m off the pill too. Would rather not be on Yasmin though, worse feeling down every day and like a different person. Do not recommend, looks like it’s rare that this suits anyone."

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Acne "Since I’m spending so much time reading through reviews on this page I thought I would add in my experience from this pill! I am currently halfway through my second pack of a random generic for Yaz. Like a lot of you my doc put me on this pill to help reduce acne (I tend towards blackheads, close comedones, as well as those dang cysts that stick around forever). Hate to say it but I am definitely one of the ones experiencing worst skin, since beginning I have had pretty constant cysts on my cheek/jaw area. Right now I can count about 8 different spots that are very red and will linger for weeks (as well as my original congestion). I am hopeful that like others have said by pack 3 I will wake up with that magically clear skin. AS A SIDE NOTE: I am miraculously side effect free other than the acne! No nausea, weight gain, moodiness, headaches, nada! I even started mid cycle and didn’t get any breakthrough bleeding. I will update with this same name around the three month mark"

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "This pill really does get a hard time! After reading all these reviews I completely understand people will have differing reactions to taking it.... but WOW Yasmin has been a game changer for me. I suffered with severe PMDD up to 9 days before my period and would completely change as a person, irrational, crying and starting arguments, incredibly sensitive and paranoid .... this lasted until my period came and then I would have another 2 weeks of feeling great until the build up started again. This pill along with taking 10mg of Citalopram daily has literally changed my life. I suffered for years and years with PMDD and finally live a normal life now, still get a little scratchy a couple of days before period with a little increase in how hungry I am .... but that is it! Best thing I ever did! :)"

Yaz (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I’m 25, haven’t had an actual period in years (was on an IUD called Mirena). It was working fantastic for 7 years then came the expiration date. My desire to search for a new method of birth control begin. Considering how long I’d been on the IUD I figured let’s try something new. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE, it has been HORRIBLE finding a birth control that would fit my body & Yaz was NO exception. I have been taking the pill for two months. Side effects came gradually, things you’d assume: breast tenderness, cramping, bloating, lower back sensitivity. But there was something much more sinister bubbling up, so slowly I didn’t even notice, until I became a completely different woman. I have never been more depressed. Low energy, irritability, general feeling of discomfort, hopelessness, EMOTIONAL, crying all the time. Do your research but based off my experience RUN."

Yasmin (drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol) for Birth Control "I was taking this pill for 2 years, during this time my long waist length hair started to fall out very gradually, after about a year my thick hair had become thin and had all broken off to neck length. My doctor was adamant that this pill was not causing my problem and sent me for blood tests to see whether I had some sort of deficiency. These all came back normal. I made the decision to come off the Yasmin pill last year. My hair has only just started to grow back - this is after a year of not taking the pill. I am absolutely certain after reading other Women’s reviews on here that Yasmin caused my hair to fall out. Please please consider what you are doing when taking this pill. I took this pill like many because it is marketed as the only pill that doesn’t make you gain weight. Putting on a little weight wouldn’t have hit my mental health as hard as losing all of my hair has."
