Multaq (dronedarone) "Had 3 A-fib episodes usually go 6 months between episodes. Now finally a drug I can tolerate, except does give me bad stomach. Hope that comes around. Was not able to take other drugs. VA pays for meds otherwise I probably would not pay the $500. Every 3 months it costs. Someone needs to get this pricing down. 8 stars because EXPENSIVE."

Multaq (dronedarone) "I was recently diagnosed with both Atrial Flutter and AFIB. I have to come off the drug after the 8th dose (4th day) due to severe side effects that progressively got worse each day. My hands and feet swelled, nausea, diarrhea, pounding headaches, foggy, dizzy, loss of memory. My EP also prescribed Ranolazine (RANEXA EQ) 500mg/2xs day. I stopped taking both drugs yesterday and started taking Flecainide (Tambacor EQ) 100 MG/2xs day."

"Have had paroxysmal Afib since 1978. Digoxin controlled my Afib reasonable successfully until summer of 2012 when the frequency and duration of my Afib occurrences increased to an event every two or three months. Then in May 2013, I almost passed out during an Afib episode. Switched to MULTAQ 400mg twice daily after being admitted to the hospital and my Afib has been under control ever since. I notice some missed beats occasionally, but nothing like the random palpitations I had during Afib. MULTAQ is working for me."

"I have a fib and taking 400mg of Multaq and 25mg of metoprolol 2x daily. I have been on this medication for 2 months. The first issue with the drug is ear ringing which is extremely bad to the point of effecting concentration and even sleep. I have noticed a significant reduction in the quality of sleep and have regular nightmares which I never had prior to taking the medication. My heart constantly feels like it is stressed or burning as if I ran a long distance without warming up first. I am 50 years old and in excellent physical condition. I have experienced a dramatic increase in hair loss in two months. The worst experience by far however is the incredible amount of belly bloating and muscle spasms. The bottom line, the drug has stopped my a fib however the side effects are extreme for me. I would highly recommend you try other options prior to this drug. I will be going off the medication as soon as possible."

"On this medication for one year now. Have had several Atrial Fibrillation episodes, with longest duration 17 days, all with self conversion. Previously on sotalol and digoxin. Ablation probably in the not too distant future, but not looking forward to it. Have severe sleep apnea and all episodes but one triggered during sleep."

"I have chronic atrial fibrillation, had 5 cardioversions over 2 years. Return to normal rhythm lasted from 4 to 6 months. Doctor prescribed Multaq; subsequent cardioversion (#6) retained normal rhythm only 4 months. Had #7 cardioversion March 2, still on Multaq. If normal rhythm doesn't last at least 6 months I'll quit Multaq."

"Prescribed Multaq for a fib---gained ten pounds in six days, became breathless and totally fatigued. Discontinued Multaq after six days and lost six pounds in twelve hours, regained breath and no longer fatigued. Multaq resulted in CHF!!! The cure was worse than the disease."

"I was given this drug in 2009 in a effort to control AFib. I was on it one month and it did nothing to help the AFib. Following a cardiac ablation in 2015, I developed random, but frequent PAC (premature atrial contraction)/PVC (Premature ventricular complex) activity. My EP suggested the use of this drug to eliminate these events. I have been on the drug for approximately 3 weeks, initially on 200MG 2 times per day. Following about 10 days, and no improvement the dosage was increased to 400MG 2 times per day. The events continue at about the same frequency and still random, however the intensity of the events seems to be lessened."

"I've only had one episode of diagnosed and monitored Afib. My heart rhythm came back on its own after 4 hours. They put me on Multaq, 400mg, twice a day. This drug is so hard on my stomach. Even taken with some food. You have to take it with a whole, moderate-to-large meal, not just something like a roll or piece of toast. Twice a day, breakfast and dinner, and that puts weight on. My cardiologist put me on Nexium, 20mg, at first once a day, then twice a day. I am supposed take the Nexium before eating in the morning and at bed time. Before eating works OK in the morning and I might get a away without symptoms from Multaq then. Once I take the 2nd dose of Multaq, my stomach is bad for the evening and overnight. Endless burping and indigestion, and sometimes diarrhea. I have GERD, which was under control until I started Multaq. The stomach problems caused by Multaq make it difficult to take other necessary medications during the day. No more Afib but, I MUST get off Multaq."

"Was put on dronedarone after I developed Afib. Doctors tried cardioversion and it only lasted one day and back to afib. They started me on Eliquis and dronedarone twice a day, which worked almost immediately to stop all my afib. I do occasionally have bradycardia in the morning when I first wake up, but this is normal and nothing to worry about according to my cardiologist. I have a history of HBP, and it is now very good with the help of these two drugs. I've been on it for about 6 months and have had no side effects at all. So far, a great drug. My doctor also recommended a product called Kardia Mobile. You buy the unit, and it works in conjunction with your smartphone, and you can do your own EKG that is stored on your phone for you or your doctor to see. Another great product. It tells you in 30 seconds if you're in afib or several other heart problems. Well worth the investment."
