"I was prescribed Diclegis by my OB for extreme nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Diclegis is not covered by insurance, so I researched what it was, and it's basically Unisom and Vitamin B6. Now the active ingredient is what is in the sleep tabs, not gels. The gels have diphenhydramine, so if you are using this review to help ease nausea during pregnancy, make sure you are buying the sleep tabs. Anyway, I take one tab at night (check it is the right dose: doxylamine 10mg) and it totally works. I don't wake up feeling nauseated at all, and I sleep through the night. I do feel a little groggy in the AM, but it's hard to tell if it's from the pill or pregnancy in general. Upon further research, I discovered that the tabs were originally designed to help with nausea. Hope this helps!"

"I'm a 23-year-old with severe anxiety and insomnia, and my insomnia has been getting worse over the past few months. I can't remember the last time I slept through the night or fell asleep in less than three hours. Melatonin did nothing for me, and Benadryl didn't do much either. I tried Unisom last night. I fell asleep much faster than usual-probably took me about 30 minutes. But after 2 1/2 hours, I was awake again. I couldn't fall back to sleep. I tried looking up if I could take another 25 mg (I had taken 50 mg before I went to sleep), but I couldn't find anything about whether 75 mg total is too much. I'm frustrated because it put me to sleep so quickly, and I slept heavily, but it lasted so short a time that it barely made a difference."

"I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant. I've been having some trouble sleeping, so I decided to take Unisom. I've never felt so restless in my life! I'm wide awake, dry mouth, awful taste in my mouth. I think it had the opposite effect on me. I feel sleepy but just cannot fall asleep. Very frustrating, gonna have to find another solution."

"I've always had trouble falling asleep, so I bought these one day to try them out, and they work great for me. They knock me out in 30 minutes, and I get a good night's rest. I use it every once in a while when I have a lot on my mind and just want to sleep. The only downside to it is that I have a very hard time getting up in the morning when I take one, and it makes me sleep even longer, which I don't prefer because it messes with my sleep schedule."

"My OB/GYN Dr. put me on this medication because I’m pregnant and have trouble sleeping. It’s working for the most part, mind you, I was on trazodone for years, so it was kinda rough in the beginning. I’ve been on it 10 weeks now, and I suffer from these nightmares. I wake up in a state of fear, and a lot of times I scream. It’s getting worse. I’m not sure if it’s my hormones because of my pregnancy or the Unisom. Has anyone had any experience with realistic nightmares while on this medication?"

"I go to the gym late at night after work. I take a high stimulant pre-workout powder prior to my workout, which doesn't allow me to sleep till hours after my late-night workout. Took 2 Unisom pills and knocked out within 20 min. Good solid sleep."

"I break the 25 mg tabs into thirds and take it about an hour before bed. I try to have at least 7 hours for sleeping. More is better. Only feel groggy when my sleep time is less than 7 hours. Love it! I also use the generic versions."

"Today, my 1st time taking Unisom. I took a Unisom gel at 20:07, and it's 22:00 already, and I'm still wide awake. Since it's only been 2 hours, the side effects haven't kicked in yet (if I even get them). I heard it's supposed to make you fall asleep 30 minutes after taking it, well, so far, to me, it's not working."

"There are two variations of Unisom, one has the same ingredient as Benadryl, the other contains doxylamine. I used the one containing doxylamine. I've taken it (1/2 tablet then decreased to 1/4 tablet) several times, and though it does help with sleep, the side effects of increased anxiety upon waking and worsening of my chronic depression, as well as feeling drowsy throughout the day after waking, make it a no-go for me. I wish I had read more about the potential side effects on mental health prior to taking, as I spent some rough days these past few weeks before realizing this OTC was the culprit."

"I'm a 43-year-old healthy female who has had recent spinal disc degeneration, so pain has been tough. Sleep was always a bit elusive except when exercise was a big part of my life; now sleep has gotten more unobtainable. I used to get a prescription for Ambien, but as predicted, it stopped working quickly with tolerance (non-addictive like Unisom, but habit-forming and awful on memory - be wary of zolpidem/Ambien). Unisom and its generic have contributed to depression and ill feelings. I think this is quite literally as the bottle reads, for occasional sleeplessness. Wishing it worked more regularly."

"I have RLS and insomnia. I don't want to use an addictive medication for sleep. Unisom has thus far been very helpful. I start feeling the effects after about 30-45 minutes. Also, I try not to take it every day. 1 every few days. I needed it, and I'm happy with the results."

"It works perfectly for me to go to sleep. I only took half of the tab. I slept the whole night for 10 hours, but I had a hard time trying to wake up! I felt dizzy and had a migraine. I read everything about side effects, so I realized that I can't take this substance because I'm taking Eutirox because I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. It works, but it's not good for me."

"I have had trouble sleeping, so I turned to an over-the-counter sleep aid, Unisom gels. In the start, I was taking one, as time went on, I upped to 2 pills a night. I do fall asleep in about one hour and a half. I feel like I can’t fall asleep without them, and they work 80 percent of the time. I truly have vivid dreams, and they are all about my achievements I think about reaching. Overall, I just put them out of my mind when I wake up, but if I try to understand them, I’ll make myself nuts, so I just say it’s just a dream. The most important issue I have is to just get a good night’s sleep. Works for me."

"I have been experiencing insomnia for the past several years. I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine. My doctor has prescribed Ambien for my insomnia, but it only works some of the time, so I started adding the sleep tabs. I have read reviews where people have to only take 1/4-1/2 a tablet to sleep, me, I can take 2 or 3 with Ambien and still stay awake for the night. I'm not sure why, but it doesn't work for me. I'm working with my GP to resolve the issue because I can go for weeks on only 1 or 2 hours a night sleep. It makes it difficult to focus and be on my game at work. Just an FYI for those looking for something that works..."

"I suffer from insomnia. I was even taking lorazepam for a long time, but I had to stop because it interacted with another medicine I had to take. So I decided to try Unisom tablets after so many other sleeping aids failed, and this worked great for me! I used it for three days, and I'm happy to say I have been sleeping on my own ever since!"

"I moved to Hawaii 2 months ago and have had insomnia since I've been here. I decided to buy Unisom and give it a try. First time, it did absolutely nothing. Second time, it took approximately 3 hours to fall asleep. So I decided to up the dose to 2 pills. It's a 50/50 chance to fall asleep within 2 hours. When it does work, I wake up groggy and unbalanced and it takes a few hours to shake it off. I don't recommend this product. It just doesn't seem to work like it claims."

"This worked wonders. I had a cough all day and wanted to be able to sleep it off. Cough syrups tend to give undesired side effects. I took this and had a humidifier in the room. My cough actually stopped because the Unisom was drying me out. I slept like a baby. It helped me sleep in the next day, and I feel a lot better."

"This Unisom pill is absolutely useless. I wake in the middle of the night on 4/5 hours of sleep and figured I'd try it out because it was 'extra strength.' I started taking 2 because nothing was happening when I took 1. Nothing after 2 - it did nothing. At best, I'd get a slight yawn and a little dozy after an hour, but not enough to fall asleep. Save yourself the $12 per bottle they want and don't buy this pill."

"I've always had a hard time falling and staying asleep. Seems like I've tried everything, including meditation, sleep noise apps, music, melatonin, making the room freezing, warming the room up, and reducing caffeine and stimulants before bed. Bought some Unisom to see if it would help. Taking as directed, 1 pill at bedtime. Still takes me a good hour of tossing and turning, and then I'm awake every hour or two all night and wake up with a dry mouth. Maybe I'll go back to 10 mg melatonin because that seemed to work best."

"These have saved my sanity. After a rough 2 years that caused me to drink more than I should, my sleep cycles became extremely disrupted. I gave up alcohol, but nothing helped restore my sleep. I am leery of prescription meds due to a history of dependence. Nothing I tried over the counter worked. Benadryl didn't touch me, so I didn't expect much. In the past 2 years, I averaged 2 hours of sleep a night. Because of my experience with nothing working, I took 2 of these the first night. BIG mistake. I slept 13 hours and could hardly stay awake the next day. The last 2 nights, I have taken one and slept 8 hours but still some grogginess. I will try 1/2 tab tonight, but this medicine has given me so much hope for sleeping again."

"I started taking Unisom about a month or so ago. I'm restless when trying to go to sleep, so I took 50 mg Unisom the first time. It worked good, but since then, not at all. I've taken the Unisom, then waited a couple of hours and took 10 mg melatonin. Then within an hour, I finally fell asleep. Melatonin alone doesn't work, and the same with Unisom. I would rather not use anything, but at 65 years old, it seems I'm awake more than I sleep at night. Going to talk to the doctor next visit and see what she says since she is the one who recommended the Unisom."

"For some reason, after taking the 2 tablets, when I get the sensation of impending sleep, I’m jolted out of my “sleepiness” because of what feels like sleep apnea. I would guess this medicine relaxes so much that my breathing changes... horrible feeling. So with that, I got zero sleep!"

"Heard about this from a friend. It works well. I usually wake up a few times during the night but slept like a baby when I took one gel tablet. The only thing is that the following day I would be very cranky and had a massive headache. Will not be taking this anymore!"

"I'm pregnant and my doctor recommended I take Unisom and B6 at night for my morning sickness and nausea. When I took it, I easily fell asleep, but I could not sleep through the night, I would wake up at least 3-4 times. I woke up irritable (more than normal for being pregnant), and it also triggered my migraines. Almost every time I took this, I would get really bad headaches."

"Boy, did this make me sleep. I never really woke up the day after I took it, but if I can count on this to make me sleep, I am optimistic. A prior reviewer indicates that they do fine with just 1/3 of a pill, so I am going to try half and take it at least an hour before bed."
