"I have just about tried every potion, lotion, and tablet to find a cure for my insomnia. Nytol was probably my last hope. I paid £11.99 for a bottle at my local pharmacy, I can honestly say it's £11.99 wasted. Utterly useless, I would have been better off with a glass of hot milk. I'm typing this at 4 a.m. after yet another sleepless night. I've now given up and just accepted the fact that I will never get a decent night's sleep."

"Took 1 last night Nytol tablet 1 hour before bed. Mild sedative-like effect, but fell asleep okay. Next morning, I felt more tired at work than I did in bed, haha :) Plus dry mouth, and luckily avoided a headache by drinking water!"

"To be honest, I heard bad reviews about this, and I said whatever, I'll try it. What I learned is it's a wonderful product. I take one tablet with water an hour before I sleep, then I lay in bed for 30 minutes, then I fall asleep through the night. Honestly, it's a wonderful product. My doctor recommended I take this."

"First box of Nytol One A Day worked pretty well but then I bought another box a few months later and it gave me severe migraines, a bit of vomiting, and made me drowsy. Alright, but the sickness, restlessness, and sudden anxiety kept me awake. It's happened for the 6th night in a row, so I'll have to try something else."

"I do sleep at night, but wake up every few hours, so wanted to see if Nytol would help me sleep all night. On Friday, I took a tablet about an hour before bed, it didn't make any difference, but I was very tired in the morning and struggled to get going. Saturday, I tried again, the same thing, slept the night, but kept waking up, but this time in the morning, I was totally knocked out, couldn't move off the couch, and fell asleep around 10 AM for a while. Not good!"

"Where to start? I took two Nytol tablets at 9:30 PM. It’s now 3:55 AM, and I’m more wide awake than I ever remember being before. My legs felt so achy and restless I’ve had to get up to make a cup of tea and take paracetamol. I’m just glad I’ve got a day off and not got to work. Dreadful experience, throwing them away."

"I had a stroke last year, and this has left me wheelchair-bound and unable to sleep. The doctors refuse to give me more sleeping pills as they say they are addictive. I thought I would try this product, Nytol 50mg, available over the counter at the chemist. Well, I can only say that it gives me the best night's sleep, so I would recommend this to all."

"Brilliant product. Works a charm. Just make sure to take on an empty stomach or they don’t work. I eat at 6 PM, then take at ten. They can give you restlessness with legs, so taking magnesium alongside is helpful."

"I have exam season going on right now - due to which I need to start getting my 7 hours circadian sleep. I have bad habits from before, where I can't sleep til 3 am most times. I took this at 12:30, and it took 25 minutes to kick in for me despite having a clinically slower metabolism. By 1:15-1:30, I was definitely able to have slept if I wasn't been spoken to by my sister. At 2 I was so sleepy I couldn't even focus my eyes. Woke up after my full 8 hours, groggy and harder to get out of bed than usual though - but this didn't last long. Will definitely only use these when I NEED to sleep. Rating: +10 for effectiveness -1 for the grogginess Overall: 9/10"

"I usually use the Tesco brand sleep tabs, and they work fine. Tesco had run out, so I paid for Nytol. Took one the first night and couldn’t sleep, felt like I had taken speed, restless legs, the lot. Was awake until 1:30 ish. Next night was worse. Put in bin, do not use."

"I started taking half a tablet before bed, for a long time, I've had poor sleep, and these tablets work - a bit too well. You sleep better, but they also have left me feeling so groggy and sleepy the next day, sort of drugged feeling. I know because I skipped one night - didn't take any - and the next day I felt normal. Then, the next night, half a tablet again before bed, and all day the next day very sleepy - so sleepy you struggle to do anything. I also take beta blockers, so this could be the reason. Who knows. But they work. If you haven't taken them before, I advise you to only take half a tablet before bed rather than a whole one, and you might need caffeine to wake up a bit the next day."

"I tried this once a night for a couple of weeks. Awful, I never slept at all. Felt my mind was rushing, I only drifted off at 7 AM through exhaustion. Awful taste in my mouth the next day and felt sick with tiredness. Will never use again."

"I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night for no reason. Thought I would take 1 Nytol to relax me and allow me to have a good full night’s sleep. Wrong. I have tried going back to bed a few times, but I feel like I’ve had a coffee fix. I’m tossing and turning. My legs are extremely restless. I just can’t settle down. Never again will I take Nytol. Just not worth it! I feel horrible now."

"Nytol is useless. I can take one Panadol night for the occasional insomnia and sleep. Sometimes a Piriton works just one, but the Nytol doesn't ever work. I will never buy again. Doesn't work at all. It is absolutely useless."

"I have chronic insomnia. I’m usually up until 4 AM, even then, sometimes I struggle. Thought with starting a brand new school soon, I’d try these as anxiety keeps me up too, and they have not worked whatsoever. In fact, they seem to have the opposite effect. My eyes do feel heavy, but when I try to sleep, I just can’t drift off, no matter what. Don’t recommend, I doubt I'll be trying these again."

"I read the reviews about Nytol before taking it last night for the first time. I felt despondent as most are poor! However, for me, it worked very well indeed and no fuzzy feelings this morning. I took one tablet, not two, 20 minutes before bed."

"I have a feeling that most people have been buying the Nytol in the green pack, which is supposed to be 'natural' and doesn't really work. I have the ones in the blue box, I only take half a tablet and I sleep so well. Would have been lost without them at certain times."

"Well, thoroughly disappointed, took one 50 mg tablet and waited an hour before bed, lovely calm feeling, however, no sleep. Took another against manufacturer's instructions, it's now 3 AM and wide awake. I have better sleep with Avon’s lavender pillow mist!!!"

"I can get to sleep very easily, but find I wake for 2-3 hours around 2-3 a.m. When I awake, I feel grim! I’m sorry to see so many people whose experience of Nytol hasn’t been good. For me, it kick-starts a better sleeping pattern, leaving me feeling much better on waking after a full night's sleep. I will take it for 3 nights and hope the sleep pattern improves. It usually does!"

"I have tried Nytol a few times, and oddly enough, it seems to act as a stimulant rather than a sleep aid. Totally wide awake and restless legs to boot! Joy. Nightnurse is the only thing that works for me every time, but getting it regularly from a pharmacy is difficult, as you have to have cold and flu symptoms for them to give it to you. Tablet form works best if you can get it."

"Knocked me right out! I took it to try and sort out my “body clock,” as I wasn’t getting to sleep until about 4 a.m. I took it at 9:30 p.m. and was asleep by 10:15 p.m. It did cause some very vivid dreams, and I woke up a few times in the night. I also felt quite groggy in the morning, like I couldn’t wake up properly. However, it did get me to sleep, so I’ll be using it again."

"I love Nytol. I take half the dose just a couple of times a week to ensure a good night's sleep. Been doing this for 10 years. Takes a couple of hours to work, but love that I can relax in bed reading or watching TV, knowing I won't have to stress about trying to get to sleep and that before I know it, I'll be sparko!"

"I've been taking Nytol one-a-night for a week now, as I was struggling to fall asleep despite being tired, and when I did sleep, I'd be up and down all night. From starting Nytol, it has helped me sleep through the night, but I often wake up very late (around 11 a.m.) and it takes me hours to fall asleep. I try to take one tablet at around 10 p.m., and then I'm having to take another at around 11:30 p.m. to midnight, as I feel tired and groggy but lay in bed for hours trying to sleep. Clearly, Nytol doesn't work for getting me to sleep, it just leaves me feeling groggy throughout the day after sleeping from around 3 or 4 a.m. through to 11 a.m., so, in the end, I'm not getting more sleep than I'm supposed to, I've just changed my sleeping hours."

"I take Nytol one a night (50 mg) once or twice a week. I usually fall asleep and wake up 4-6 times in the night, and if I'm lucky, lightly doze. I take Nytol at 7 PM, and by 8:30 PM, I'm very drowsy. I get 4 hours of sleep before the first wake (normal), but after going to the loo and back to bed, I go straight back to sleep for another 2 or 3 hours. This is brilliant for me. I can then usually doze for another 2 hours, which is even better, and get up at 8 AM - 9 AM (I start work at 10 AM, so this is fine for me). I have had the fuzziness in the morning, which is why I started taking it earlier, as I find leaving 14 hours between taking the tablet and having to be 'with it' is the right amount of time for me. Taking every night reduces their effectiveness, and they will work differently on different bodies. I took it at weekends initially to find out how they affected me before working out a routine."

"I used to use Nytol a fair amount at uni, but then stopped for about 2 years. I recently tried it again, and I have had a horrible night. Dry mouth and restlessness accompanied by severe anxiety, but nothing else. I have been trying for a few hours to get to sleep, and alas, nothing. I won’t be taking it again."
