For Cough "Took 5 hours ago. Still coughing. Now I am pooping as well. Came to read reviews because I don't think I could have eaten anything else to cause diarrhea. I'm hoping I don't have 8 hours of stomach issues, but it's not looking good. Maybe it doesn't happen to everyone, but user beware!"

For Cough "About 15 minutes after taking exactly the dose indicated, I fainted and cracked my head on the floor, resulting in a brain hemorrhage! Several tests were done in the hospital to rule out any other reason for fainting. The only conclusion is that I had a severe reaction to the ingredient in this cough medicine. Be careful!! Read all the reviews BEFORE taking this medicine!"

For Cough "I take Delsym when I get sick and have a cough if I don't go to the doctor. It does work great. Stops my cough completely. Can cause nausea if taken on an empty stomach. My only problem with it is I can't go to sleep all the way. I end up in a drowsy state, kind of like when you've just started to fall asleep-still kind of aware of surroundings. This cycles pretty much all night with wakefulness about every hour. The night seems to last for days, and my alarm going off is a relief. Not too tired the next day, but not an enjoyable feeling for me, although a night of all-night coughing is more miserable. So pros and cons for its use. In the daytime, it can cause tiredness but does knock out the cough."

For Cough "After having a nasty cold/cough for 5 days, I had to do something, I was getting tired of sleeping in a recliner, so I decided to give Delsym a try. Now it did help with the dry cough, I was still woken up to the gasping, painful coughs, but it was better than being awake almost all night long. I do have IBS-D, and Delsym made me be in the bathroom most of the morning, and it gave me the hangover headache. So yes, it did stop most of my coughing, but who wants to spend the next day in the bathroom bent over in pain from cough syrup."

For Cough "Learned the hard way that this stuff causes explosive diarrhea. I wouldn't take this if you have any plans for the rest of the day. Honestly, not sure if it really even helped with my cough or if I was just getting better with time. Wish I looked into it more earlier on instead of waiting. It feels like they have added the active ingredient for Miralax in a drug designed for already sick people?"

For Cough "I took this late at night expecting it to work, and I should have read the reviews first. It didn't stop my cough at all, and I think it made it worse. I ended up just sucking on a cough drop, which worked better than this. It is now 5:30 AM, and my stomach feels twisted, like I'm going to vomit, but I don't have anything to vomit because I haven't eaten anything, and it has to be the cough syrup because I have had the cough drops before. I'm never going to use this medicine again."

For Cough "Do not take this!!! I started taking this during the tail end of my flu because my symptoms were mainly just coughing with phlegm. It gave me nausea, which I thought was attributed to the flu, but after taking it a couple more times, I noticed I was extremely nervous with anxiety. I stopped taking it for 2 days, then took it again to see if it really was Delsym causing me severe anxiety. I became super anxious right after 1 hour of taking it, and it took about a day and a half to wear off, and I only took the regular Delsym and not the 12-hour one. Please be aware!!! It did suppress my cough and thinned my mucus, but I'd rather deal with the coughing and mucus than the severe nervousness I dealt with."

For Cough "Took recommended dose at night. Woke up completely disoriented and dizzy, and had extreme waves of anxiety and feeling like I was going to pass out all day. Finally seemed to wear off around 24 hours later, but was the worst experience. This was actually my second time, I tried it again just to make sure that it was the medicine causing it and not some strange panic attack. It's definitely the medicine."

For Cough "Don't take it! First, it doesn't work. Second, I had stomach pain starting about 15 minutes after I took it. Sick stomach for hours. Then about 5 hours in, I started throwing up violently. Delsym is the only thing I had in my stomach."

For Cough "DO NOT take Delsym with alcohol. Nowhere on the box does it say that! I had wine with dinner and later took the prescribed dosage of Delsym because I had a cough that was preventing me from sleeping. The next thing I knew was waking up on the kitchen floor with ambulance personnel in my house! I hit my head on the floor, which caused a brain bleed. I had to be airlifted to a regional hospital and put in the ICU. Luckily, the bleed stopped and they didn't have to crack my head open to do brain surgery! Recovery was a nightmare with months of headache, dizziness, and zero energy. I still have residual effects a year later. They did a lot of tests in the hospital to figure out what caused me to faint, but all of them showed no problems, so it had to have been the Delsym. I don't know for sure, of course, that the combination of wine with Delsym caused me to pass out. It could have been just the Delsym, but I want to warn people. This stuff is dangerous!!!"

For Cough "I had a long-term chronic cough a few years back and was buying everything on the shelf, nothing worked. My hubby asked the pharmacist what he would recommend, and he said Delsym, the orange stuff. Thought it was expensive but bought it. I immediately stopped coughing. Well, here I am coughing again for a long time and finally broke down and bought some, no more cough with one dose and may take a dose today. Thanks for this great product."

For Cough "I bought this for a dry, nagging cough. It worked great for the cough. I took the 12-hour version. I did, however, stay up for several hours with a rapid heartbeat and nausea. It's been 16 hours, and I still feel shaky and a bit loopy from the medication."

For Cough "I took Delsym 12 hr for a cough, and it worked pretty good for me. I thought I did not have any side effects from it. A few days later, I found that my fibromyalgia pain had nearly disappeared, so what I worked out was great dextromethorphan for fibromyalgia pain. I was able to go to bed and get out of bed without any pain. I had almost forgotten what it was like to be pain-free. After much research on the active ingredient in Delsym, it was confirmed that dextromethorphan does block pain receptors in the brain. I continued to take the recommended dosage at 10 AM and at 10 PM. After about a month, it seemed I was more tired than usual. I cut the dosage back to just once at 10 PM and was hopeful that would help with me being tired. Yes, it was better, but still too tired every day. I have stopped Delsym completely. My pain is back in full fibromyalgia force, but being tired has gotten much better. So, do I want to be tired all the time, or do I want to deal with pain all the time? I haven't decided that yet."

For Cough "Recommended by pharmacist for persistent dry cough. Took about 1 hour to notice any difference. Then it seemed to virtually stop the cough. I stuck to the twice-a-day measuring cup instructions and was very pleased with the result. It did not completely stop the cough but stopped it from being a constant problem. Would recommend for dry coughs. None of the drowsiness that some other cough medicines induce."

For Cough "Boy, do I wish I had read the reviews on this medicine BEFORE I took it! I have been sick for a week with a nasty virus and finally broke down late last night and took a dose of Delsym. I admit it stopped my cough in its tracks, but I woke up six hours later with such bad diarrhea, it was like my keister had sprouted a fountain. My husband took it and within a short time developed terrible chills. I think, from this point forward, I will just deal with the cough."

For Cough "I took this syrup after my dinner and woke up with a heavy head and dizziness, and it only got worse by the afternoon. To an extent that if I close my eyes, everything will start spinning. It's more than 24 hours now, and I am still facing this issue. Will never recommend this to anyone."

For Cough "My 9-year-old son had a severe cough. The doctor has always recommended this cough medicine. My son was very dizzy and felt horrible after one dose. 24 hours later, his pupils are still enlarged. I will never use this medicine again."

For Cough "I honestly wasn't sure if it was the medication that did this to me until I just almost took it again and decided to read reviews. A couple of hours after I took it, I woke up three different times due to extreme stomach pain. The third time I decided to try to go to the bathroom. My stomach hurt so bad that I felt like the muscles in my stomach were just stuck tight. I felt like I couldn't even go to the bathroom because it hurt so bad. After having extreme pain and diarrhea, I started getting chills, lightheaded, and swearing profusely. I seriously thought I was going to die and started dialing 911 before laying on my bathroom floor for a couple of minutes, and it stopped. I wasn't even sure if it was the medication before reading all these."

For Cough "I am so confused about the explosive diarrhea reviews. Long story short, I got something last week that was more than just a common cold. Started with the usual scratchy throat, but by day 3, the cough was so unbearable that I later found out at urgent care I cracked a rib from coughing so hard. They gave me RX cough syrup, which I only took once since the codeine in it made me throw up violently (not fun with a cracked rib). Picked up some Delsym around 1 AM at the pharmacy and actually slept for about 6 hours. Had to go to work the next morning and took my Delsym with me. Didn't need to take another dose until about noon. I truly feel like this medicine saved my other ribs from my own abuse! Try it once before assuming you'll poop your pants."

For Cough "This product is no good. I purchased for myself. Have a bad cough due to cold/sick. I'm not a smoker. It didn't help at all. I didn't stop coughing. It did make me feel nauseous, though. If I could, I would have rated it a zero or negative ten."

For Cough "I took a dose of Delsym at 9 PM and felt my cough calm down before bed. Woke up at 3 AM filled with anxiety, and two hours later, I'm still awake. After reading all the negative reviews and the reaction I have, I don't think I'll take this medicine again. Hoping my stomach stays strong. Picking up some elderberry syrup once the sun comes up."

For Cough "I took this because my family flew into town and I couldn’t stop coughing. I got a terrible headache and got very dizzy and nauseous. After the nauseousness passed, I was straight tripping. I can’t believe this stuff is legal. Don’t take it unless you have absolutely no other choice whatsoever."

For Cough "I am currently taking Delsym for a nasty cough and upper respiratory infection. I took the recommended dosage of 10 ml every twelve hours. After the first dose, I became worse. My cough had gotten 10x worse, I had severe chills, bad body aches, and severe dizziness to the point of not being able to sit upright. I would have gone to the hospital but didn't have a ride. I can't sleep because of the cough. I took a half dose compared to the recommended dosage (5 ml) and am having the same symptoms: freezing, worse cough, and dizziness. I do not recommend whatsoever and will likely be going to the hospital this evening due to not being able to breathe."
