For GERD "I started Dexilant 12 days ago. At the end of the first week, I developed fatigue, muscle soreness, and muscle cramping. My heart rate became irregular, the rate was increased, and I could feel my heart beat through my whole body. My sleep has also been affected. After finding all my side effects online, I have stopped taking the medicine. Hopefully, the side effects will subside soon."

For GERD "I have been taking this medicine for about two weeks. It is very effective in controlling my acid reflux. I do see in a post that someone is taking this three times per day. That is excessive and perhaps dangerous. Proton pump inhibitors have been implicated in osteoporosis, so I think once a day is sufficient."

For GERD "I loved taking Dexilant. It stopped my heartburn and acid reflux immediately. After about a year, I think I linked it to chronic chest pain, symbolic of a heart attack. This medication worked for my irritable bowel syndrome too, I was not constantly in the bathroom and began feeling normal again. Unfortunately, my doctor changed my medicines to see if my chest and side pain would go away. Now it's just a waiting process again. When switching meds, I also noticed my acid reflux came back worse than before, though. I have mixed feelings, but for acid reflux and irritable bowel syndrome, I believe it's a miracle, but if my pains are related to Dexilant, I would have to drop my rating some."

For GERD "I tried all of the reflux meds out there. My doctor prescribed so many. Dexilant is the only one that has worked. I’ve been on it for 18 months. Had a urinalysis done a couple of weeks ago. My kidney has decreased from last year. It is now a three, 5 is the worst. Doctor reduced my dose to one every other day. As well as it works for GERD, it can have side effects. Have urinalysis and blood work regularly."

For GERD "Dexilant caused diarrhea, IBS, dairy allergy. I was prescribed it for severe heartburn, hiatus hernia, stomach inflammation, and it helped a lot. I stopped taking Dexilant 10 months ago due to severe diarrhea, cramps, nausea, bile, waking in the middle of the night with cramps, and half-hour painful diarrhea, constipation combo, awful cramps, gas. From what I've read on this thread, I'm not alone. I hate to tell those who recently started this that have had these issues with Dexilant, and 10 months off this poison, and I'm still suffering. I now have a dairy allergy. Only after removing dairy from my diet are my severe symptoms relieved. I eat any dairy, and I'm sick again for 2-3 days. Existing IBS is worse than before, now a daily struggle."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I've been taking Dexilant for about eight years. I've tried the other drugs for this diagnosis. Without Dexilant, the pain from acid reflux is so excruciating it has nearly brought me to my knees. I'm on Medicare and pay $100 a month for this drug, but it's worth every penny."

For GERD "First week into taking this drug was perfect. Second week onwards, I suffered from nausea, fatigue, body ache, diarrhea, etc. I would recommend stopping this medication once side effects kick in. Other side effects I experienced were stomach ache, feeling weak, and feeling uncomfortable swallowing food."

For Erosive Esophagitis "20 years ago, I had a Nissan wrap (a type of GERD surgery). Some Dr. said I should not have had it and just taken the meds for control of acid. Since then, I have taken different proton pump-type meds with good effect. In Jan of this year, my specialist who scopes me told me to get off pantoprazole, which wasn't easy. In May, I went for my Veterans physical, and the Dr. said my throat was red and I might be having some reflux. I started taking pantoprazole 20 mg once a day and then up to twice a day, 30 mg. I kept getting worse. Now they have me on Dexilant 60 mg, and I'm having trouble at night with reflux."

For GERD "I have acid reflux caused as a side effect from a cancer medicine I can't stop taking yet. I have tried several GERD treatments, Dexilant is the only one that makes me feel 'normal.' I have been on it for 60 days and have developed a constant, dull headache and intermittent SEVERE leg cramps (more like seizures as the muscles become rigid and inflexible). I would rather have the reflux symptoms than the sleep disruption and pain. Additionally, my insurance only pays $15.00 toward it, and the Dexilant 'never pay more than $20' coupon brings it down to $170.00 a month."

For GERD "I have been taking Dexilant for 5+ years and is the best medicine I have found for GERD, plus other gastro issues. Other meds just don't work as well for me. It gives me full relief for 24 hours, I take one each morning before breakfast. I did develop AFIB [irregular, fast heart rate] while after taking it and started taking 1 magnesium citrate each day since Dexilant and others may affect magnesium absorption. AFIB went away, magnesium blood levels fine, all is good."

For GERD "Been taking first Prevacid and now Dexilant for over 10 years for severe GERD. Have tried every other product for acid reflux, and this is the only one that works for me. Doc says he sees this in about 10% of patients where only one med works. Prilosec has no effect, and Protonix makes my GERD worse. Have had no side effects from Dexilant. Insurance tried to push OTC only, but my Medicare Part D now covers it."

For GERD "Dexilant cured my GERD. I had never felt better. Then my lower back started killing me and got worse. I stopped the Dexilant, and it got somewhat better, but it still hurts. Anyone else experience this?"

For Erosive Esophagitis "This medication, Dexilant, has worked better on me than any other medication. No side effects at all. I just can't afford it, my copay is $100 on this medication, and on a fixed income, I just can't pay that."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I had a Barrett procedure and started taking Dexilant. It worked miracles for my acid reflux. I could eat anything and feel perfect, but I started getting lots of headaches (day and night), ear discomfort with pressure and noise, my blood pressure jumped to the sky, and a feeling of tiredness all day. I stopped the medication abruptly, and now I feel like something is stuck in my throat, but otherwise, I am feeling so much better. The doctor is going to put me on something else... so sad Dexilant didn't work for me."

"I don't know what to call my symptoms. It felt like I had a horse outside and inside simultaneously kicking my ribcage really hard. I was supposed to have had an endoscopy, but the nurse woke me after I had been asleep for less than an hour, and I could not return to sleep, so being thirsty, I drank water, therefore, I could not be put under anesthesia. I am a bit gassy, but so far, I haven't had serious side effects. Let me put it this way: not only did the chest hurt so bad I thought I was having a heart attack, but the acid backed up into my throat on a different night, waking me up out of a sound sleep and feeling like I'd just had a spoonful of sulfuric acid. I was living in fear of this awful pain returning. It was so horrid it made me throw up, and I never throw up. So I've been on the Dexilant about a week now and haven't noticed any side effects I can't live with. My doctor says it will heal my stomach lining, which he believes to have become irritated based on the symptoms I described to him. The chest pains have not come back, and neither has the burning acid in my throat, so maybe, hopefully, it's working."

For Erosive Esophagitis "Had acid reflux. I lost my voice from it for 6 weeks, went to an ear-nose-throat doctor. Got Nexium, which gave extreme headaches as a side effect. Another doctor gave me 30 free samples of Kapidex 60 mg. I got no headaches. Took 1 pill, and my voice is returning to normal. Good product. Doctor may give Pepcid AC or 300 mg of Zantac if your insurance doesn't cover it."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I have weight loss surgery and was told my GERD would be cured after my surgery. Well, they lied, and it's actually worse. Dexilant is the only med that takes the edge off. However, it is so expensive. When I was on Obamacare, I paid over $300 a month for it. However, I have no choice but to take it or not eat. It's always a fight with my insurance company. I wish they would make a generic or make it cheaper. Hoping it is helping my Barrett's esophagus so I don't get cancer."

"I have been having stomach problems, and my doctor gave me a month's sample of this. It doesn't seem to have any effect on my stomach, I have, however, been having mood swings. I stopped taking it, and my mood was back to normal. Strange but true. This may work for others, but not for me."

For GERD "Dexilant works for my acid reflux, but sometimes loose stool, and sometimes I just feel like I have to go to the bathroom. I had gallbladder surgery a couple of years ago, sometimes I still have an upset stomach. I was on Prilosec, I had stayed on the Prilosec. I had two colonoscopies and two upper GI endoscopies, and in September I had an upper GI imagery study on my stomach. All my tests came back negative. I have a gastroenterology appointment on Dec 7th."

For GERD "So I have been struggling with heartburn. Prilosec was working sometimes but not all the time. Dr. prescribed me Dexilant! Took it for the first time yesterday. Only been one day, I know, but I truly think this is the devil drug. Heartburn was gone, BUT the side effects are worse. Terrible stomach cramps all night, and woke up with diarrhea. Couldn't even go to work. Will not take no more of this. I only got it for $20 because of a coupon."

For GERD "My mom has been taking Dexilant for at least 10 years. Every time some well-meaning medical professional switches her to something else (cheaper), she gets sick. Mom has had GERD for at least 20 years, and Dexilant is the only thing that actually works for her. I'm to the point that I put my foot down when someone suggests switching her to another product. I wish it wasn't so expensive, but mom is 90 and well worth the expense."

For GERD "I was given Dexilant for acid reflux. It worked well in the beginning. I could eat whatever I wanted without any kind of food bothering me. After 3 weeks of taking the drug, I started to get a rash that soon spread all over my body, and then I started having trouble breathing one day. Four doctors later, the dermatologist was the one to get it right-that it was an allergic reaction to Dexilant. I cannot take this drug."

For GERD "Dexilant has been a life saver for me! Doctors tried me on lots of different kinds of heartburn/GERD medications. Protonix, Nexium, famotidine, 1 omeprazole 1 time a day then 1 omeprazole 2 times a day! Finally, they had me try Dexilant 30mg and it still wasn't enough. I started taking 60mg Dexilant and haven't looked back since! It has completely made me better. I have Gastroparesis and it's extremely important to keep any heartburn to a minimum because if I don't, a bad heartburn episode can put me in a Gastroparesis episode where I throw up every 10 minutes forever until I go to the emergency room. Dexilant doesn't bother me in any way whatsoever with any symptoms. Omeprazole gives me bad diarrhea!"

For GERD "Started 2 weeks ago with this Dexilant. Ever since then, my symptoms got worse: dizzy, stomach and lower back pain, hard to swallow food, passing gas, and burping a lot more. Would not recommend this drug to my enemy. If I knew what this drug did for me that made it worse, I would not have taken it. Worst drug on the market, and they want $300.00 for a month for this pill. NO WAY. Not me. No wonder why my insurance would not cover it. Believe me, if you are taking it and feel more sick than you did, STOP TAKING IT. Within a few days, when the drug gets out of your system, you will feel better, and you will not have to see a doctor or keep going to the hospital, and they find nothing wrong with you."
