For Tardive Dyskinesia "I took Austedo for three days. I couldn’t sleep at all and became overwhelmed by suicidal thoughts/depression. I could barely speak without crying, which I haven’t done in many decades. It had no effect on my tardive dyskinesia. A total disaster. My doctor advised me to stop taking it, which I did. My insomnia abated, but it took weeks to recover from the deep depression."

For Tardive Dyskinesia "I have been taking Austedo for tardive dyskinesia (TD) for two months and have had varied success with it. The tension in my mouth is gone, and so is the darting tongue, but I gained 6 lbs on it in the first three weeks (but the weight gain stopped), and my appetite has decreased significantly during the day. I don't find any food appetizing and find I cannot eat between 5 AM and 10 PM. I also have terrible insomnia because I wake up starving at 2 AM each night. I am taking 12 mg at 5 AM and 18 mg at night. I am going to try to lower the dose and see if my appetite gets better."

For Tardive Dyskinesia "I gave Austedo to my daughter with autism for TD, and it got rid of her mouth movements but not her eye and brow movements. I regard this as more success than failure, as nothing worked to any degree before. She was put on 500 mg per day (1 pill). I am fearful of going higher at this point, but I may increase it in the future to see if it will decrease her eyebrow movements. She got TD from many years on Abilify 10 mg, which worked great on her behavior."

For Tardive Dyskinesia "I took Austedo from November to February for TD because I had trouble speaking. My tongue had been uncontrollably moving for three years, and it took three doctors to diagnose it. I couldn't sleep and had no appetite whatsoever. In February, I discontinued it because I could no longer tolerate not eating, sleeping, and the depression and fatigue. My TD disappeared, but my hair started shedding massively and I am still shedding in October. I've been to the dermatologist, and I am on Finasteride for alopecia, but it doesn't seem to be working. Also gained 10 lbs in 3 weeks, and it took 8 months to lose it, but the TD is gone. So I am grateful that Austedo reversed it, but I am stressed about the hair loss. It was extremely frustrating to find no real patient reviews for it in November. There were 5 reviews on here, and 1 was a nurse. Good luck!"

For Tardive Dyskinesia "I started on 24 mg for a month and so far I expected more out of a medication that costs $15,000 a month. I seem to find myself waking up in the middle of the night and eating. Probably one reason why I’ve gained weight on it. It does help with the movements a little, but not entirely. Maybe the longer I’m on it, the better my movements will get. I’m kind of indifferent about it. I could take it or leave it. Oh, and you have to take it with food, which is a pain for me because all of my other medications you do not. It also makes me a little drowsy, so I take it at night."

For Tardive Dyskinesia "My dry mouth seems to be worse, I am getting tired and running out of energy sooner than before I started this medication. The medication is easy to take can get it out of the pouch, however, I still have problems remembering to take it with my other medications."

"First 2-3 days of titration week (4-week sample) make me very sleepy. Then okay, but can nap at any time. I'm starving hungry all day/night since started. Told would not cause weight gain. Very concerned about possible recurrence of breast cancer with Austedo."

For Tardive Dyskinesia "Don't like the drug Austedo, it makes me tired and depressed, and it doesn't completely get rid of tardive dyskinesia symptoms."

For Tardive Dyskinesia "By all appearances on their website, this drug works by lowering dopamine levels, which is effectively the same as taking higher doses of antipsychotics/neuroleptics. Yes, you may be able to 'hide' tardive dyskinesia (TD) by increasing your antipsychotic (effectively the same thing as lowering your dopamine levels with Austedo), but it will eventually come back stronger. Note well that Austedo has some of the same side effects as other neuroleptics, including neuroleptic malignant syndrome and parkinsonism (just like antipsychotics have). Austedo was approved under 'fast track' FDA it appears, and I'm guessing didn't get the scrutiny and testing that it probably needed, and boy they're making crazy claims on this drug and charging through the roof (I mean more than a mortgage) for the drug."
