Periactin (cyproheptadine) "This drug great for cluster headaches. I have spoken with over 150 cluster headache suffers. I took one tablet each night for the first week and it has ended the cycle of headaches. The first night after taking one you will still have a headache, but it will last about one half hour or so. On the second night according to the people I have spoken with, 145 out of the 150 had the cycle of headaches ended. The remaining 5 on the 3rd and 4th day. Keep in mind you must take this medicine up to 2 months to make sure the cycle is contained. The only way to know is to judge how you feel. Your doctor cannot do this for you. I have been having these headaches for 18 years. PLEASE TRY."

"My son was only 4 when he was diagnosed with cluster migraines. The diagnosis came after a year because they rarely occur in children that young. The horror of hearing him scream "Mommy help me! Help me! Why does my head hurt!!" broke my heart. Our pediarician recommended a drug that controls seizures but sometimes actually causes seizures. Nope was my answer. Next he recommended Periactin. With little side effects and my sons headaches cycling one per day for 4 days I agreed. It was the best decision we ever made. As long as he takes his med he has no headaches at all. It has been the best blessing ever and given him a normal pain free life!!!!"

"I have had CHRONIC cluster headaches since 1978. Of the dozens of medications I have been prescribed, the only one that has brought me sustained relief over the years is Cyproheptadine. I have been on it since 1984, 8-mg twice a day every day (except during my pregnancies when I stopped all medicines, reverting to indescribable pain). My cluster headaches are not cured by cyproheptadine, but the severity of pain is reduced to a tolerable level. No side effects. Also, I had an occipital nerve stimulator implanted in 2007, which continues to help tremendously. Best abortive for me has been Ultram, 3 tablets taken at onset of pain (I try to limit this to 1 or 2 times per day, taken at the times I most need to function well)."

"Cyproheptadine is also very effective for tension headaches. If you don't wanna gain weight you have to be careful and use it as needed but I am thankful there is a medication that isn't a powerful pain reliever that works so well for almost any type of headache."
