For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This medicine saved my teenager from horrible OCD. 200mg at bedtime, dry mouth is the only side effect. Every once in awhile he will have an episode, but I am able to talk him through it. He tried every med, this was the only one that worked."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "After two failed SSRIs (Lexapro and Zoloft), I'm so happy I tried Anafranil. This is the best medication, and I wish doctors would prescribe this before SSRIs. I had little to no side effects when I first started taking it. I take it at night because it does cause drowsiness. I've been taking it for 3 months but felt the effects after 2 weeks! I have little to no intrusive thoughts from my OCD. There may be some days where my anxiety is not its best, but they're manageable, and I have this medication to thank. Please give this a try! It's an old medication, but it's so worth it, especially if SSRIs are not working for you!"

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "So I’ve been taking Anafranil for about 8 weeks now. I started at 25 mg and now I’m at 100 mg.. gradually moving up as time goes on. I didn’t have OCD until I got pregnant with my daughter and started having horrible intrusive thoughts that made me depressed. I’ve tried Zoloft, Lexapro, Paxil and now this one. This has worked for the most part but it hasn’t “cured” anything. I still have my days but out of all the medication I’ve tried this has been the best. Thankful overall for this medication. Give it a try and try to remember these kind of meds take time to work. Sending positive energy to you all!"

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I have/had severe OCD. I have been on citalopram, Zoloft and Prozac. I was started on 150mg Anafranil, and within what seemed no time at all, my OCD disappeared. Prozac did work for OCD but not on clinical depression. I am now on 200mg. I have had no weight gain (nor did I have on SSRIs). I get a dry mouth sometimes but counteract this with an anti-dry mouth toothpaste."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I've only been on this medicine for 3 weeks but it's already doing wonders. I still have "the thoughts" but they don't "take root" like they normally do. They come and go throughout the day rather than being ALL I can think about. My Dr is slowly upping my dose to 100mg, and I'm currently on 75mg and already seeing benefits. It takes a few weeks to REALLY start working so if you are on week 1 or 2 give it some time. It's been amazing at helping me fight my compulsions. It makes me really believe OCD is a MEDICAL issue. The morning is still the worst for me, when all my thoughts first hit me, but since I've started this drug, I can make it through the day so, so much easier."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Have had depression since a young teen and started to have OCD thoughts and compulsions at about 15. Tried several anti depressants which always helped (apart from Prozac) with my mood but never with the OCD. Psychiatrist said that anafranil was basically my last hope and I have been on it now for nearly 2 years. 25mg twice a day. My obsessive thoughts are practically gone and the anxiety around my compulsions is so mild. Never felt sick or sleepy starting on them either. Very hard to find this medication anywhere around where I live in Ireland. Always has to be ordered in advance."

For Depression "I had tried escilatopram (Scippa) and vortioxetine (Trintellix) before, practically both were ineffective. Anafranil has been a miracle for me, within a month it reduced my severe suffering very effectively, and made me much better for 90% of my time. And it was reached quickly with very small dosage: 20 mg a day. Minor side effects occurred during the first couple of weeks, the most unpleasant was the dry mouth and reduced libido, but it bounced back within weaks."

For Panic Disorder "I had a break up and was suffering extreme anxiety and depression. I was not functioning at work, in life and suffered for several months. I was getting worse and worse, not sleeping and finally broke down and decided to take an anti depressant. After about 4 days something changed a little within a two weeks my anxiety went away and I began sleeping again as well. I weaned off of the ativan I was taking and this drug saved my life. I probably would have been hospitalized if I didn't go on it. Side effects, sweating (a lot), constipation, and of course ejaculatory issues but still could have sex for my partner. This side effects were easy to deal with when compared to my anxiety. Save my life!!!"

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I have been taking Anafranil 100mg for a year now and it has changed my life. I have battled with OCD, severe anxiety, panic disorders and intrusive thoughts since I was young. While trying different drugs finally at the age of 40 one drug works for me and this is it. I still have the "thoughts" but instead of obsessing over them they pass by like moving cars. The side effects are bothersome dealing with constipation, bloating, sweating, insomnia, twitches. I don't believe I can ever function without this medication and instead maybe lower my dosage to see if it reduces the side effects."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This medication is absolutely life changing. After years of suffering anxiety OCD with mostly intrusive racing thoughts that caused insomnia this medication was a miracle!! I had tried so many failed medications and therapies that I became hopeless. I was prescribed this medication after being hospitalized and have never been back that was over 2 years ago. It took 4 weeks to work please give it time. I feel like I have my life back!"

For Panic Disorder "I was suffering panic attacks, anxiety, depression and irritable bowel syndrome. I started on half a 75 mg for two weeks and then full tablet. The side effects were a bit of a challenge some days but the up side was I had good days very early into taking. I started them four weeks ago and panic attacks are gone, minimal anxiety now and depression lifted considerably, also no more IBS. one thing that no tablet cannot do is change how you think. I am very, very blessed!"

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "After three years on different anti psychotics, I started taking this finally to some releif. I have been taking it now for about six months. It is still working well for obsessing, but the side effects are starting to add up. I have steadily gained weight. Severe dry mouth at first, not so bad now though. Total anorgasmia fixed by Viagra, and uncontrolled twitching. It sounds bad when I write it down but compared to the antipsychotics it's much better. I still feel better than I have and so much happier."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "My obsessive compulsive disorder has improved significantly. It has also helped with depression but I just up my doses from 150mg to 225mg to see if I can get more of an antidepressant effect. Almost no side effect. I take it in the morning and I do not feel sleepy. Anger and irritability has improved as well significantly. For those who share in the future let me know how much you take please. It helps."

For Depression "Was on Effexor, Seroquel and Prothiaden but could not shift the constant thoughts of killing myself. Driving became a night mare, just leaving the house was impossible as my thoughts kept telling me to walk in front of a bus etc etc. Anafranil literally saved my life and gave me back the wish to live. Most effective drug I have ever used and gradual withdrawal worked really well. Thoughts not completely gone but no pressure anymore, they just drive on by."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "After a long 12 years of being on Effexor XR my anxiety OCD was beginning to get worse, my GP felt it necessary to increase my Effexor to 150 mg and although I had done that in the passed Effexor was just not working anymore and actually began working against me, awful anxiety at night time and my OCD "I have pure-o" and I felt I couldn't get things under control, I had enough and it was time for change, I saw a different GP who was knowledgeable with Anxiety and he switched me to CLOMIPRAMINE/ANAFRANIL 50 mg to start, I only had a few bad days from the initial switch because Effexor can be nasty to come off but then my life came back and I feel great! Just remember nothing will rid you of OCD but this med is great to manage it!"

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "Before taking Anafranil I had severe episode of Irritable Bowel Syndrome diarrhea. I had anxiety which gave me diarrhea. And that fear of diarrhea gave me anxiety. It was a vicious circle. I even had an "accident". I was prescribed Anafranil (75mg then I lowered the dose to 50mg) and it was definitely a life-saver. No more anxiety and no more diarrhea. I could eat everything I want. I was able to go on vacation, have a girlfriend, go the mall, go to parties, have a normal teenage life and not wondering every time if there is a bathroom near. For sure there are some typical tricyclic antidepressant side effects but I prefer to have it than having anxiety and diarrhea. You have to make a choice and find the right dosage for you."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This drug was a MIRACLE for me! My problem was that I was always LATE for any and every little thing I attempted to do and it was ruining my life. It is VERY baffling for me because I started with only 25 mg and within FOUR days I was AUTOMATICALLY, not just on time, but EARLY for everything, without any thought or effort! I was ecstatic. This phase lasted 3 weeks. The doc said I'd be a Super Woman when she amped me up to 50 mg. Well, that made it STOP working! I began to slowly regress, and then started to be extremely drowsy to the point of even falling asleep at the wheel -- and worse, it wasn't even working! We experimented with it but it NEVER worked again and I am super sad about that."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "After taking this medicine, I woke up one morning to realize that I felt connected to the world and when I started to do my rituals, I realized that I just didn't need to. Amazing. The problem was that I gained 40 pounds, and the high dosage necessary (over 200) scared me. I would recommend that a person try it and see if a lower dosage will work for them. If so, it's a miracle."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Ever since I was ten years old I have had obtrusive images of inflicting pain/suffering on myself and others. These images create emotional turmoil in life, because obviously I don't want these thoughts. I've tried different medications, yet Anafranil seemed to work the best. My obtrusive thoughts went away almost completely (granted I was on the highest dose). However, Anafranil had consequences: It gave me irregular heartbeats, and heart palpitations to the point where I felt like I was having a heart attack. I had to wean off the medication because of this. This was distressing to me because Anafranil made me emotionally feel like a million bucks, but physically made me feel dumpy."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I battled with OCD since being a child but I was only diagnosed after being hospitalised in my forties. I have been taking clomipramine at 250mg a day along with antipsychotics for the last 5 years. The intrusive thoughts that used to be so crippling have greatly reduced to a level I can handle. Clomipramine saved my life, literally, as I was hospitalised twice for attempted suicide. The only downside are the side effects, for me, as a man, the impotence and loss of libido are difficult to live with but it's a price worth paying."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I've been using Anafranil for 6 years. It has helped me a lot. On occasion I still struggle with obsessive thoughts but have been able to bring it under control both times by myself. I rated this an 8 because of dry mouth and constipation problems. Eat your fiber big time. After several years, the dry mouth problem got better and only returns when I'm under stress. I sleep well on this drug and did not sleep as well on the SSRIs."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "This medication was a miracle for my OCD like I swear my intrusive thoughts had almost gone! I was able to do things that I couldn't do with OCD! Sadly I couldn't continue it as I got a really bad side affect of low blood pressure! I wasn't able to do much during this time. It was worth a try though!"

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "1I was on anafranil many years ago. Took it for 5 years. Unfortunately, after 5 years, it stopped working for me. But, it is a wonder medication. Give it a try. More than likely, it will work for you. If not, give fluvoxamine a try. It is another really good one. Otnly side effect was dry mouth. Small price to pay for the wonder effects I got from anafranil. Give it a try. When I took it, there was no co-pay. Nowadays, there probably will be a co-pay, but probably not a bad one."

For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I was diagnosed with OCD when I was 18/19, but I'd had intrusive thoughts from as early as I can remember. It just got worse to the point I was suicidal in my late teens. Anyway, luckily the psychiatrist I saw was able to diagnose me and prescribe me Anafranil. I can honestly say I probably owe my life to this medication. I took it for a number of years, before switching to sertraline. I find anafranil does make me drowsy, but the effectiveness of it is worth it at times. Not everyone can take SSRIs. I'd recommend trying this medication for OCD or other anxiety disorders :) Peace."
