"I was prescribed cipro for my kidney infection two nights ago. yesterday I had an allergic reaction to the cipro. I was feeling all of the side effects; dizziness, headache, nausea, lightheadedness, also had loss of appetite. My throat had swelled up due to this medication so no other medication went down my throat and luckily I hadn't eaten solid foods. because it had swelled up, I also could not breathe normally. I had constant shortness of breath. I revisited the health center and was told that I had an allergic reaction to this med and that this medication is not recommended whatsoever since it is outdated. BEWARE if you are given cipro, I would suggest having it swapped out to another medication. I could have easily died if I took another dose and if my throat swelled up even more I wouldn't be able to catch a breath. I really feel lucky that I got the help quickly."

"Was prescribed this for a kidney infection. After only one dose experienced: nightmares, insomnia, paranoia, an odd feeling of being out of my body. By the 3rd dose I was afraid to go into a dark room, was crying constantly, and had feelings of overwhelming doom. By dose 5 my legs were tingling and weak and psychological symptoms worsening. Also after this dose my infection made a comeback and antibiotic resistance was to blame. They put me on Bactrim. Before ciprofloxacin I was very sane, very healthy woman and this drug changed me. Ten days later, I still feel off."

"I was hospitalized for 10 days for kidney stones and kidney infection. At home now: started Cipro Day 3 - 2x's per day. Extreme nausea waves day & night. Also, vivid dreams. Sleeping all day and up at night. Be sure to eat something before and after taking this drug. Will call Doc tom to have me take me off this and prescribe another antibiotic instead. I do not like the way this drug is making me feel during my recovery. I've had enough beat-down to my body before & during my hospitalization incl (acquired Sepsis)."

"I have been taking these tablets since late Tuesday, I'm on a 500mg 10 day cycle for chronic kidney infection. The hospital sent me away with the tablets and advised if I was no better within 48 hours I was to go straight to A&E. I have taken 4 tablets now, I was feeling sick and vomiting before I started to take these tablets so I can't blame that now the tablet. I can honestly say the only problems I am having with this tablet is the dreams, they are so awful, vivid and terrifying. It's hard to try and get back to sleep when you know what your gonna face on the other side but all I want to do is sleep and rest. Overall I genuinely think the tablets is doing its job, I shall let you know if I end up in hospital this evening."

"I used Ciprofloxacin last year for an infection last year. I would not say it helped. Added to this suddenly I started experiencing severe pain in rotar cuff, left arm. The pain was so severe I could not sleep. Months of physiotheraphy followed. Slight improvement. I recently was once again prescribed Ciprofloxacin for a UTI. I took one pill and broke out in huge red flat blotches all over my body. I stopped taking all meds and went to the Dr. The Dr told me to try again and take no other meds to see if it was indeed the Ciprofloxacin as by the next day the blotches had disappeared. Once again after taking another Ciprofloxacin I broke out in huge red flat blotches and my eyes started to itch and my throat started closing up. I stopped taking it immediately. By the following day red blotches had disappeared almost entirely. Since then the severe pain in my rotar cuff is back. This after taking only two Ciprofloxacin tablets."

"Currently on day 4 of 7 of my Ciprofloxacin regiment for a kidney infection. I haven't had a nightmare of an experience by any means but this is definitely one nasty drug. Within 20 mins of ingesting, I experience quite intense abdominal cramping on my left and it's worse than my kidney pain. This lasts about 30min-1 hour until my muscles relax again so I take an Advil in preparation for it which helps. I've also been experiencing heavy night sweats. It's a little hard to determine what is the result of my infection and what is a side effect of the medication but I'm quite confident about these two in particular. I take the pill with about 500ml-1L of water. Food doesn't seem to make much of a difference for me. The restrictions for dairy also make the morning scheduling super annoying as yogurt and granola is my go to. All that said, my kidney infection pain is all but gone now and I feel like I'm on the road to recovery so it is effective; it's just a pain the way it goes about it."

"I was given these from the hospital for a severe kidney infection. The dosage was two 500mg for 5 days. Worst tablets I've ever been on, they made me want to self detonate. They have even gave me Jaundice which is a 1 in 1000 chance. They were very fast acting towards the kidney and kidney pain which is good but side effects were very very nasty. Side effects I experienced: - severe nausea - dry mouth - vomiting - dizziness - abdominal pain -headache - muscle aches - confusion - extreme fatigue - fever and cold sweats - jaundice (yellowing of skin, eyes and urine) I've been off the tablets for about 48 hours now (thank God) but now need time be treated for jaundice. Only good thing I can say about these is that they are very fast acting. I wouldn't recommend these at all even if you are desperate please ask for something else."

"I am on my third dose as of last night I am on two tablets one in the morning and one at night at 500mg and I try to eat a meal before and after I take it. I recently got a bladder infection that got into my kidneys 2 days ago and so far I have tingly feelings in my lower back both sides of kidney. It helped the second day somewhat for the pain of peeing and kidneys, definitely not throwing up anymore but wake up drenched in sweat, today is my fourth day, it is 12 am and I also noticed my dreams are extremely vivid and I'm pretty exhausted and can't get out of bed."

"I'm on Cipro now this is day 2 and I'm on 500 mg for 12 days. I've used this antibiotic it the past, I myself get UTIs I pass stones at least 2 a year. Well it's worked ok for the UTI in the past but it's not doing anything as far as this infection. I've had to be hospitalized twice for severe kidney and bladder infection so I know damn well what that pain feels like. The doctor didn't help at all he. I feel like they we're just trying to get me out of there quick. They did no pelvic exam. He didn't even press on the stomach or tap my back. I waited until I couldn't bare the pain while peeing. So I already knew what I had I went up there for antibiotics and to see how bad it is because I can not afford to be in the hospital. I'm going straight back there in a day or 2 if this doesn't clear up. So it's good for bladder infections but not kidney infections"

"I would strongly caution you about taking this drug for anything. While it is widely prescribed, the side effects are not obvious on the leaflet you get from the pharmacy. I spoke to gps, a nurse, and a pharmacist and they didn’t know about the risks of the drug induced neuropathy I started experiencing after taking just two pills. I was experiencing pins and needles, numbness in my leg and foot. It was scary and I am a 31 year old female who has never had a reaction to antibiotics except a small rash. The FDA warns this is side effect is 50% more likely with this class of drugs! There are so many other options of antibiotics out there. At the first sign of trouble, I stopped this drug immediately and took bromelain, magnesium, b6 and was switched to amoxicillin. The side effects started to regress two days after stopping. Please be careful!"

"I would not recommend this drug for people like myself that have an allergic reaction to penicillin and sulfa. This is about all I can take for a kidney infection. The side effects aren’t too bad for me and I don’t really get dizzy from it. I just make sure I rest a lot and drink lots of water. My dreams do tend to be a little scary on it, but if that’s what it takes to get rid of a serious infection then I’ll do it. The infection scares me more than side effects. Everyone’s body reacts different though!"

"I was given a ten-day/twice-a-day prescription of ciprofloxacin, which has caused chronic tendinitis. I have ruptured a tendon in the first digit of my index finger, and have periodic episodes of inflammatory tendinitis; plantar, Achilles, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, and the tarsals in hands and feet. No fun. I would think one who has a sensitive disposition to pharmaceuticals would not want this drug. Yes, it may have saved my life, but I believe I would have healed from pyelonephritis with an antibiotic I could already tolerate."
