"I’ve been prescribed this antibiotic for my ear infection! My instructions are to use it twice DAILY for “7” days & use 4 drops! You guys, I am on my 7th day & guess what ??? NOTHING ! Like this can’t be true .. this little tube of ear drops costed me $40 just for it NOT to work ! I have headaches , sometimes my neck hurts & on top of that my ear doesn’t feel like it’s getting better ! This has to be the worst I could have gotten !!"

"I’ve been taking Ciprodex for 48 hours now and I have constant tinnitus. The swelling or pain hasn’t really improved. If it’s not improved by tomorrow I’ll go back to the doctor. I live in Canada and paid .57 cents with insurance. Even without insurance I doubt it would be very expensive."

"While this med helped my ear pain and infection heal... the swollen mouth, jaw, tongue, and face were too unbearable I quit the drops after 4 days. My doc advised me there was no way my swelling came from the drops. I insisted on prednisone and then picked up zyrtec, pepcid, and benydryl Those meds, combined with 50 mg of prednisone I'm feeling much better. I'm allergic to penicillin. I'm wondering if my pcn allergy is related to my cipro allergy. I'll never go back to that doctor."

"I had a mild infection. My doctor said my eardrum was pink and prescribed Ciprodex. I had first tried hydrogen peroxide for three days. The drops burned badly. When the dose was finished my hearing, which was already going in that ear was gone. I went back to my doctor. The infection was gone. He said my eardrum would rebound. He’s a good doctor so I hope he’s right. It’s been over 4 months now and a hearing test last week showed a huge drop in that ear."

"I have been using ciprodex drops in my right ear for 9 days as instruction by the P.A. at the ENTs Office. The drops have not helped one bit, nor will they go down my ear. I am at a loss what to do now since the P.A. didn't recommend or prescribe anything else."

"I have only been on this medication for one day for both internal and external ear infection. Within hours of taking it, my ear started to swell even more than it already was, causing it to hurt tremendously to open my mouth, chew, and even swallow. I was in pain before, but since taking ciprodex the pain has increased a substantial amount. I was told it should get better with 48 hours. I can't take the drops anymore due to all the swelling and pain, also hearing loss. I'm hoping this clears up soon with just the pal medication I was also prescribed."

"I have an prescription for ear drops : Ciprodex which has ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone as active substance and PRICE WAS $332, covered only $95 by insurance , $233 out of pocket. I found CIRIAX Otic for 3,14$ . Something is not right at all here and nobody care about 100 times prices increase. NO CONTROL."

"Wish I had never taken this drug. I had a mild ear infection (not much pain). Ever since taking this, over six months ago, there has been a constant noise in my ear. Plus in spite of the fact that there is no evidence of an infection now, I am experiencing off-and-on pain in the ear. I believe this drug contributed to the constant "noise" I'm now experiencing. I doubt it will go away and it is horrible."

"I developed an outer ear infection after a month of daily swimming. I was in a lot of pain and went to the doctors which prescribed these drops. With insurance it still cost me $60 out of pocket. Which I would have been more than happy to pay if it had helped relieved the pain. However, my pain is worse now. The drops have only made the pain 10x worse. I'm now on day 4th and have decided to stop using them going back to the doctors for an alternative. I'm really bummed out as we leave on vacation this Sunday and the pain is unbearable."

"I was having an on and off again ear pain for over 3 months. The 1st NP did not give me Ciprodex nor Amocoxillian and the ear infection got worse. At first the pain was only at night but now its day and night. I went to another NP and she prescribed Ciprodex and Amocoxillian. The first dose of Ciprodex was unbearable today & the pain lasted for 2hrs. It did push some wax or infection out of my ear. I have 6 more days to go so hopefully I will not have the same pain experience everyday."

"SMALL BOTTLE, PURCHASED AT PHARMACY for $264.000!! Insurance paid for $214. 50 for 7 days treatment. Yet a 2% acidic solution and cortisol for swelling is recommended. How in the world can we expect these companies to accept the risk of insuring people"

"I was prescribed this after I developed ear pain and burning pain that was insane from otitis externa!!! Within 2 hours I began to feel relief like a lot I could finally sleep. They made me sleepy and the ear drops made ear feel a little fuller because my ear already felt pressure but no bad reactions. I however can’t believe the medication retails for $230 that’s insane. I only had a small copay due to Medicaid."

"It took away the swelling and pain in about 24 hours. It slightly improved the loss of hearing after 7 days but I still can't hear like normal. Way way too expensive, $270 in which insurance covered abut $50. $220 for a tiny bottle of mediocre medicine."

"Went on vacation for about five days which included swimming almost everyday. On the last day, after a shower my right ear became plugged. Tried using alcohol/vinegar mixes and ear wax remover drops for almost a week but neither worked. Nurse did a flush and the ear was clogged with wax and sand balls which irritated the area. Was given this medicine which I've used for only a day but has already decreased the soreness tremendously. Walmart said it was 292 and I'm not sure where that price came from since most sites and people online are stating 190-230. Ending up remembering I had prescription insurance and that reduced it to $58."

"My son while at his mothers put a plastic bead for making jewelry in his ear. They didnt have tools at ER and we needed a followup for ENT doctor to get it out. So prevent any type of infection they gave us Ciprodex and Antipyrine-Benzoca. For Ciprodex alone a 7 day supply they billed insurance company $203.08. Of that a 7 day supply cost me $17 out of pocket. Thank you insurance for paying the rest."

"I have eczema prone skin, which makes me more likely to have ear infections since the eczema is also sometimes near my ear canal. I've taken ciprodex drops many times throughout the years for my ear infections and NEVER experienced burning or pain like these other reviews, even when my ear canal was raw and swollen. These drops will make you feel better after only a few doses but it's super important to finish them as prescribed or the infection will return and be more resistant to the antibiotics. Please don't let the other reviews scare you off from a good ear drop, not every single person will experience pain from them!"

"Listen everyone, this antibiotic works by cutting up the DNA of the Bacterium so (eventually) it can't grow its rotten little colonies. There's also a steroid added to reduce inflammation. It won't directly kill the existing Bacteria."

"I've had ear trouble all my life including a cholesteatoma which required surgery and placement of a permanent ear tube. I get several ear infections a year. My ENT always prescribes Ciprodex. It clears up my infections quickly and completely without any adverse reaction or pain. Some say they had pain after administering Ciprodex, but that isn't normal. They should have stopped using it and informed their doctor to get a different kind of ear drops. The problem wasn't with Ciprodex, it was with their reaction to it. Everyone is different and there are different drops that work better for different people."

"I’ve had ear issues my entire life. From grommets at 5 years old to heavily infected ears at 35. Apparently my ear canals grew differently causing my ears not to disperse wax like any normal ear. Therefore my ears get clogged up continuously causing infections. These drops really work for me. I don’t experience any pain or anything. Other that my ears just being sensitive when putting the drops in due to it being cold. Other than that these are quite good."

"Without my insurance covering Ciprodex, I just paid $230 for 1/3 an ounce at pharmacy. I have never had an ear infection but recently got a super nasty one from the ocean water in Puerto Rico. Been on Ciprodex for two days and it has helped OR was it the cephlaxin and amoxicillin?"

"The cost was expensive at $38.90 in Australia! No rebate. 2 drops x 5 days into my left ear. It made my hearing worse. After 5 days I have constant ringing in my left ear. I wouldn't recommend CIPROXIN HC ear drops for any one! I went to the doctor after 2 days and told her it was worse and she claims the inflammation was gone, keep using it!"

"Thanks to the helpful reviews and some extra googling, I can say I’m feeling optimistic. 38 weeks pregnant and I woke up with the most intense ear infection ever a few days ago - literally couldn’t even bite down. My jaw and lymph nodes were swollen and in so much pain, and the doctor couldn’t even see my eardrum. Just wrapped up my third day of drops, and I can feel a significant improvement. Still some muffled hearing, popping, and slight pain, but the swelling went down a TON, and it doesn’t hurt to chew. And I can hear a little better. The trick is to warm the bottle in your hands, then shake well, lay on your side, and pour drops in. Let it sit for a couple of mins, then turn over and drain the rest on a tissue or whatever. I did not have any intense itching, burning, etc. I also paired this treatment with Tylenol and cold compresses (for swelling) as needed. Also, drinking hot water or beverages was great too (helped with draining the infection through sinuses)."

"I’ve never had an ear infection in my life, but after 22 years somehow both of my ears became infected with otitis externa. The first doctor that I saw prescribed me neomycin/polymyxin b drops. I lost hearing in both ears because the drops could not reach my ear canal with all of the built up wax/infection. It’s like the drops just stacked on top. I went to a different doctor and was prescribed Ciprodex. She flushed my ears and put in wicks before I began the drops. It felt immediately better to get my ears flushed and cleaned before starting medication. I believe my hearing disappeared because the first doc let me start the drops with congested ears. Using Ciprodex with the wicks was a struggle for the first two days, but I started to get better. The medicine could finally reach my ear canal. My hearing came back. It says on the bottle to make sure your ears are “clean and dry” before use. This was an awful experience, but I’m so happy I saw that other doctor."
