For Allergic Rhinitis "I love this allergy medicine! It works like a charm, and it rarely makes me sleepy, unlike Benadryl. Once in a while it's not effective, but this doesn't happen often. I agree with previous reviewers- it's sometimes hard to find on the shelf."

For Allergic Reactions "I used piriton... or at least that’s what the pharmacist told me. (Pharmacies in my country usually repackage drugs in unlabelled packets and sell them as whatever drug is famous for what that particular medicine is for). Anyways, my hay fever got really bad and I took one pill. Knocked me out within minutes. I woke up after 6 hours with my sinuses clear and my head less cloudy. I’m not sure how many mg of chlorpheniramine is in one tablet though."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I'm glad this works for so many... but for me... it gave me bad heart palpitations and overall malaise. I took this for both seasonal allergies and the potential to act as a antidepressant, which I could use. I took 4mg an hour before bed, then another 4mg when I woke up around 2-4am. I did find it to cause drowsiness, which is not a bad thing."

For Cold Symptoms "This medication has been effective in stopping post-nasal drip and the cough it caused. Issues caused by colds or allergies were addressed by this medication better than any of the newer drugs. It is cost-effective but hard to find in some cases. I frequent small pharmacies and check the house brands at larger ones."

For Allergic Rhinitis "The most effective medication (also the cheapest) for my allergies/rhinitis. I have tried virtually all of the alternative allergy medications and found them to be inferior for one reason or another. The alternatives (Claratyne, Zyrtec etc.) have all caused drowsiness for me, despite the manufacturers' claim to the contrary. I do not experience drowsiness with chlorpheniramine. The only downside is it seems to have become harder to find in pharmacies these days having been largely replaced with newer (less-effective!) alternatives. If unavailable, I would choose Telfast180/Fexofenadine as an alternative as it is the only other antihistamine that doesn't make me feel drowsy/impaired, however I find it to be less effective compared to chlorpheniramine."

Chlor-Trimeton (chlorpheniramine) for Allergic Reactions "I tried this after trying all others before I got a shot for allergies. I was fine sleeping on it then took it again the next morning and within an hour and 15 minutes I had severe hot flash, got shakey, wired and tired/loopy then nauseated. I just had a second hot flash and the nausea is hanging on too. I will never take it again!"

For Allergic Rhinitis "These little yellow pills work for regular seasonal allergies better than any other. I take only if needed and seldom more than 1 in a 24 hour period. They have never made me sleepy, but I usually take at least 2 Anacins every day---headache. I gave my teenage grand daughter one, and they work better for her than prescription meds, but my daughter flipped out when she took one and it made her very sleepy. I have been ordered to never give her children, my precious grandchildren , ANYTHING."
