"Unfortunately, I am a chronic relapser and have had many alcohol-withdrawal related seizures in the past. Every time I have gone to the hospital, they have given me Librium, and it absolutely took away all my withdrawal symptoms. No more sweating, shaking, or vomiting. I have asked several doctors in the past to prescribe Librium to me, but they have all said that it should be administered at a hospital where I could be monitored. This time around, however, the hospital sent me home after 7 hrs and gave me a script for 6-25 mg. I only took 5 and experienced no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever, and I was a liter of vodka/day drinker. Highly recommend Librium."

"I managed to successfully hide my alcohol addiction from my family/friends for years. Horrifically ashamed. Only ever drank alone. My favorite time to drink was setting my alarm for 4 AM when the world is dark and it was just me and my wine, then I'd go through the workday as normal, but with intermittent drinks throughout the day. A liver failure crisis at 31 had me terrified, but I was not getting counseling or opening myself to anyone who could help. At 33, I went to a 30-day rehab. Having been through intense withdrawal (I am a 117-pound woman at 5'8"), I was petrified that they wouldn't know how to help me properly detox. I read all about Librium and felt good about it. It saved my life. And currently, has to save it again."

"I've been a binge drinker on and off for about 4 years. This last binge lasted about 5 days around the clock. Going through withdrawal begins almost immediately for me if I don't drink every hour or so. I get extreme anxiety, heart racing, minor shakes, and can't just settle down. My doctor gave me a Librium taper starting on 50 mg every 6 hours day one and going down from there. My experience with the first dose is that it did not do anything for me. I was still just as miserable. Once I took the second dose, I was able to fall asleep. Today I'm pretty anxious, but it does take the edge off. It's not a magic bullet that cures all withdrawal symptoms. Good luck!"

"Was so happy to take it. Felt better right away, was given 3 x 25 mg pills to take 1 twice a day. Helped with my alcohol withdrawal, took a second one in the morning just in case I went through withdrawal again. Didn't feel like I needed it the next day, but took one anyway. Amazing how it worked for me. Felt like a normal person again."

"I started drinking 4 years ago and before I knew it, it turned into a binge drinker. I started out with a 30-pack of beer and a liter of hard alcohol that I drank straight. Well, the beer made me sick, so I switched to just drinking vodka straight and a chase of diet soda. When I drank, and I'd binge for up to 5 days, I'd not touch food. After 4 years of going from beer, vodka, tequila, 101 Wild Turkey, and gin (I'd get the half gallon) to an unknown amount of visits to the ER, and losing control of bladder/bowel function, my hubby said this is it, I'm bringing you to the ER and my blood alcohol was .309. They gave me Librium and Xanax, it saved me! I'm now on Antabuse, it works wonders for me, going on a month now. Good luck."

"I had maybe 7-10 detox attempts in the hospital at 30ish - was prescribed Librium but every time initially had awful hallucinations (running through wards being chased by hordes of witches) but it worked. However, 20 yrs later I still drink, my liver gamma GT hovers around 2000, yep 2K healthy peeps less than 50. Alcohol is evil, an 18-year-old can buy enough to kill them. WHY. If this helps any young person - just do NOT start drinking like I did. I am educated, top of school, had a great job and money. Now alone in pain, feeling sick - this could be you !!"

"I was tapering off of alcohol using beer. I caught a virus at the same time. I was vomiting the beer I was using to taper. I went into major alcohol withdrawals. I went to the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack. It was just the withdrawal. They sent me home with Librium, and my symptoms are gone. I’m only on day two, but I’ll take it. I still find myself craving a drink, but I’m powering through it. I pray I can hold up... this time."

"I have been a heavy liquor drinker for at least ten years now. Done some horrible things not only to my own self and body but also to my family. Went to rehab for a month, and as soon as I came out, I drank again. In May of last year, I found out I now have pancreatitis due to the heavy alcohol consumption. I got out of the hospital after spending a good week and a half, and lasted for almost two months. The pain with pancreatitis is worse than having a child naturally! I know because I have! The doctors told me if I start drinking again, I will die!!! So another attack came on, and I was too embarrassed to go back to the ER, I went to my own doctor and told him everything. He prescribed Librium, and it's been my true lifesaver!!!!"

"I've been drinking since 12 y/o. Relapsed hard about 3 weeks ago after the manager at work suspected that I had been drinking at work and fired me. I spent all of the money I had left in the bank trying to drink myself to death. Had a free ride to law school and lost that, so that played a big role in my depressive drinking. Got to the hospital after I began going into withdrawals, and they sedated me and gave me a Librium prescription. I'm a 210-pound male with 12% body fat, so I'm a strong otherwise healthy guy. Four 25 mg the first day, then tapered down the second day, decreasing each day by 1 pill. I'm still on 1 pill at night. You should exercise when off to control CNS excitement. Vivid dreams too. Saved me too."

"I've been off the drink now for 5 years! I'm 60 yrs old, have always drunk. My life went tits up, so I ended up drinking a full bottle of vodka every day for months on end. Librium saved my life, but you have got to want to stop."

"My heart goes out to anybody who has or is going through the real horrendous side of drink, the sweats, shakes, delirium. There is help (chlordiazepoxide), it WILL help you if you really want to quit. P.S.: The max (Librium) dose is 25 mg per day (5x5) mg."

"First time I went to an inpatient rehab, thought I was going to die. I was so sick, shaking uncontrollably, near hallucinating, and they gave me two tablets of which mg I don't know, and it worked wonders! I took what I imagine to be 25 mg every 4-6 hours after that, and within 3 days felt great, stayed there 5 days, and at day 4, I was ready to get out of there. Unfortunately, I relapsed and binged for a month. This time I did it outpatient, and the Dr. gave me 25 mg tabs, which I took 1 every 4-6 hours the first day, and it immediately made me feel 10 times better. Overall, the course of 5 days I slowly tapered off, and it's what I recommend to anyone withdrawing from the sauce."

"Since having a seizure back in December 2015, I had been put on Librium. When I tapered off of it, I started relapsing with alcohol over and over, many hospital trips. The drug did always help me take the edge off, but when I felt the need to not be on it anymore except occasionally at night when I couldn't sleep, which I've always had sleeping issues. But the drug did save me after the seizure from withdrawals. I was drinking and binging so much at that time of life, beer, shots, all day and night, no eating at all. I ended up staying alcohol-free till like April and relapsed, and it's been downhill since then. I've now accepted to greater myself, and grow more willpower to not drink again. Librium has helped me through these past few years."

"I have been an occasional binge drinker for years, going on 2-3 day tangents. The next day, I have gotten the shakes very badly. My doctor gave me Librium, which really helped at one time, but it seems throughout the years I need a larger dose now. What usually works is in the am as soon as I wake up, I take one 25 mg pill. 2 hours later, another 25 mg pill, then about 4 hours after that, another, 4 hours later, another. So that would be 100 mg the first day. This is on the day after drinking. On the 2nd day, I usually only need one or two 25 mg pills, then I'm fine. I'm tired of going through this, think I'll start AA today or tomorrow. Nothing feels worse than a hangover! Drinking doesn't solve your problems!"

"Was given Librium while in detox for a week, and it was quite astonishing, very effective. But I think I may have been getting too much and could not walk much of the time. Rehabilitation eventually failed with a relapse to beer drinking in excess. Will try some Librium in moderation soon for a try at home."

"Tested positive this week for benzos at an aftercare treatment center. Could not figure it out from my normal prescribed medications I take daily, all non-benzos until I looked it up on this site. Over three weeks ago, I was given Librium at a detox center. So this must be why I showed up as positive for benzos in a urine test weeks after detox is completed. I am glad I found this site and now know the cause."

"I drank for years and years since I was 16, and this year my withdrawals started, and I tried to stop, but I didn’t because of horrible, horrible withdrawals. NHS decided to help me, and I took Librium for 8 days, and all my anxiety and withdrawals disappeared after one hour! It changed my life, and I’m so grateful to be given a second chance, and I’m only 25!"

"Librium was great for my alcohol detox. While it didn't completely get rid of my shakes, it did alleviate the nastier symptoms of my withdrawal. There was no nausea, minimal anxiety, etc. Helps immensely with alcohol detox."

"I had what is known as 'transfer addiction.' I had gastric bypass surgery 6 years ago to reduce my weight and become healthier. It worked... for about 3 years until my dad passed away unexpectedly. I took a drink with friends that had come to support me, and that was the beginning of my end. AA, rehab, countless ER visits... and I have arrived at Librium. My doctor is optimistic, as am I. Let's hope it does the trick."

"I am in my 40s. Struggled with alcohol since my mid-20s. I was up to about half a large bottle of vodka a day. When I tried to stop, I had hallucinations and four seizures. My legs were bucking. After a stay at the hospital, I was prescribed Librium. I think it saved my life."

"Librium does not work for me. I've tried it several times. I asked the medical staff to give me Valium or Ativan, but they're insistent on Librium. It is heartening to read all the posts about how Librium has worked for you. Keep up the tough fight!!!"

"Very heavy drinker between the ages of 26 and 30. I stopped suddenly without understanding how withdrawals worked and was taken to the ER. Gave me Librium right away when I got there, took my vitals, and discharged me with a prescription for a week (25 mg). I felt tired and weird for two days or so, but I got better each day after that. It's important to eat fruits and drink water and minimize fat intake. Your liver health determines the health of the rest of your organs, so you will feel vibrant faster if you give your liver some love! Librium kinda made me suck at playing piano, and I couldn't really work out hard at all...easy price to pay. Withdrawals can make you feel like you're in a living nightmare. Absolutely the worst experience in the world. We should all be grateful that Librium exists to give us our lives back. No way that it deserves less than a 10. PS: NEVER use it with alcohol!"

"I was admitted to the VA hospital with a blood alcohol level of .0425 (most people would be dead). Drinking for 2 months straight. Alcohol withdrawal would have killed me without this drug. Alcohol withdrawal is far more dangerous than heroin or any other drug. Thank you, VA and Librium! Along with certain vitamins and IVs of fluids and vitamins! They saved my life! I cannot stress enough, detox in a hospital that knows how to treat alcohol withdrawal, do not do it at home!"

"I am 60 and tried to detox last year alone when my husband was away at work. Withdrawal symptoms made me seek help, inpatient for 5 days, admitted with 0.00 breath test and spiking heart rate and blood pressure. Immediately given Librium. Administered in decreasing doses and intensive outpatient program (IOP) for a month. Felt great. But I am an alcoholic. AA did not help. So today, almost exactly a year later, I have an appointment at a counseling center because I am drinking in excess again. Hoping for short-term Librium and maybe Naltrexone (which I have never taken). Self-medicating and genetics."

"I have serious issues with relapse. Do six months to a year, then break out. Have a lovely doctor who gave me Librium, and it helps. Makes me dopey, but the sweating, the shakes, the empty retching all abated. Really need to do it this time. I'm so tired of relapsing."
