For Migraine Prevention "I am a 59-yr-old woman. I have had migraines since I was 10 yrs old. I had tried every treatment in NZ, including Botox. I also tried osteopath, massage, getting more sleep, watching what I ate…you name it, and I tried it. I work, and at one stage, over 5 years ago, I was so wracked with migraine I thought I would have to stop working. Then I read an article on Candesartan for migraine prevention. I took 16 mg daily, and for approximately 5 years, it was an absolute miracle like nothing I had ever experienced. I was now able to plan in advance, knowing I would be able to go to work, socialize…just have a life! Now, for some reason, the headaches have returned, and most mornings, I am waking with a head full of pain. I am so disappointed! My luck has run out, and I will now have to visit the neurologist to see what my options are."

For Migraine Prevention "Neurologist prescribed candesartan for daily complex migraine aura. GP tried triptans, which didn’t work. Suggested 3 ibuprofen, which didn’t stop migraines but gave 3 hours of relief. So neurologist suggested taking blood pressure tablets. I had normal blood pressure overall, but the neurologist thought I might be having blood pressure spikes. Given candesartan, told it had the least side effects. Started on 2 mg, and the dose gradually increased to 16 mg after regular bloods. Quickly, migraines became less frequent, less intense, and aura symptoms slower. Once on 16 mg, migraines virtually stopped, maybe 1 or 2 a month, and easily stopped dead with ibuprofen. For me, candesartan was a miracle migraine cure. Side effects: nasal congestion, sore throat, raspy voice, bit lightheaded. Took for 2 years, and then started getting terrible neck pain, arm pain, leg pain so bad walking was hard. Stopped candesartan, all pain stopped 3 days later, and sinuses/throat back to normal. Migraines still okay."

For High Blood Pressure "My doctor prescribed 8 mg candesartan, lowering my blood pressure from 160/80 to 140/80. Blood test came back and no deterioration in my kidney function. The doctor wanted me to increase the dosage to 16 mg. I resisted and said I’d take an additional 4 mg tablet daily. Three weeks later, my blood pressure is down to 129/80, but my kidney function has declined and I was fainting. Saw another doctor who told me to take only 8 mg dosage and will reassess in a month’s time."

For Migraine Prevention "Candesartan has been a godsend for me. I was diagnosed with chronic migraine and went through about five different preventatives before being prescribed candesartan. I have now been on 16 mg daily for about a year and a half, and life feels worth living again. Although I do still get the occasional migraine, they have definitely reduced in frequency and severity. The only side effect I’ve had the whole time is lightheadedness, but I will take that any day over a migraine."

For High Blood Pressure ""May take up to 6 weeks for full effect." I was assaulted, hit in the head. I lost consciousness for about 5 seconds. I also have an undiagnosed "thing" (it's not a blood clot, unlikely to be a tumor according to the CT specialist). I am waiting for an MRI. I am male, weigh 125 lbs, about 5'10. I was 161/122 BPM 76. I took 8 mg about 16 hours ago. 123/88 BPM 80. I felt like I put my head through the wall. Obviously, I don't feel perfect. But my headache has gone from 7 to 3, ten being pain so bad you lose consciousness. I do have "post-concussion syndrome". This drug is reducing my blood pressure with certainty. It does make me tired. I am a little dizzy. My nose is running into my throat a bit more. Don't ignore your body. I was throwing up for 3 months. This drug lowers blood pressure, and I am perhaps mildly more dizzy. We'll see in the future what is wrong. I still have a headache, but my BP is good again."

For High Blood Pressure "Been taking candesartan for 4 months now, 8 mg along with low-dose moxonidine. While it has helped with BP, it has caused numerous side effects from head pressure, lightheadedness, heart palpitations, and very sore, achy joints. I will be speaking to my cardiologist within the next few weeks and getting this medication changed, I need to have some sort of life back."

For High Blood Pressure "I was prescribed this drug to control my high blood pressure of 165/110. I tried other drugs but suffered bad side effects. I'm on the combo Atacand of 16/12.5 and 4 mg. My blood pressure is under 140/90, and I have only occasional shortness of breath when exercising. As a great side effect is my ability to hold an erection stronger and longer-something that was missing before."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on candesartan for 16 years for high BP with relatively no problems. Unfortunately, it was giving me low sodium levels, so my GP has taken me off it. I am now struggling to find a tablet that suits me."

For High Blood Pressure "Similar to a previous post. I was on amlodipine for about 6 months, and BP was around 140/85. Then my neurologist decided to change me to candesartan. Now, after one week, my face is flushing, and BP is 170/114. I feel like rubbish, and my headaches are back."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on candesartan for 2 years, prescribed by a doctor who tried to bring my blood pressure down. Initially, it seemed to work, except when I needed to go into the ER with an episode, and my BP was incredibly high (white coat syndrome), and they'd tell me to take the maximum dose, 32 mg. I started to get headaches, which became daily and then turned into migraines, which I had not had since I was a teenager. The doctors would just blame everything on my BP, which was white coat syndrome (being scared of hospitals and clinical environments). They put me on NSAIDs (naproxen, ibuprofen, etc.), which caused HBP. I ended up getting diazepam to try to bring my BP down as it was causing me anxiety. The headaches were scary as I was convinced I had a brain tumor or aneurysm. I booked to see a neurologist who put me on amitriptyline 25 mg for the headaches, which did work, and I had an MRI scan, which thankfully was all clear. I then stopped using candesartan, and my BP was back to normal, and I had no headaches."

For Migraine Prevention "The first night I was prescribed the medication for chronic migraines, I was a little apprehensive as I was started on an 8 mg dose, so I cut one in half and thought if I feel okay tomorrow, I will go ahead with the full 8 mg. It has honestly changed the way I can operate through the day. I have had no migraine or headache from the first 4 mg I took. I am thinking clearer and not forgetting to do things like I was before. The only other thing I can say is thank God for this medication. I was just that sick of every day head pain, which interfered with every single thing I was doing through the day. :) All the best to everyone. In Australia, the medication is on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for pensioners, so I pay $5.90 per month."

For Migraine Prevention "I actually started taking this for high BP (which is unrelated to the headaches as I have been getting them since I was a teen, before I ever had high BP. I am in my late 20s now). I noticed in the last year I have rarely been getting migraines (and when I do, they are so mild I can ignore them when I get them every fortnight. I started 8 mg Candesartan a year ago. A few months ago (Jan 2022), it was increased to 16 mg, and I haven't had even a mild headache since! Remarkable. (And my BP is still a bit high...so definitely unrelated). I didn't realize it was the Candesartan until I stumbled across the info on Reddit of it being used for migraines. Thank you, Candesartan."

For High Blood Pressure "I was taking three different blood pressure meds that I didn’t know where I was with them. I was taken off them all and started again at square one. I was put on Candesartan because Ramipril gave me a bad cough and felt like it never worked. Twelve years later, I started Candesartan, and my dose was 8 mg. I vomited three times during the start of Candesartan, but it wore off and got readings of 147/86, the lowest in years. At 16 mg, the reading was 132/78, so I was left on the dose. When I think of three, I was getting readings of 189/90! On this one pill, it is controlled."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on Atacand Plus 32 mg for the last 10 years after a stroke. I was allergic to other medications and have been very happy with them, as my BP rarely gets above 130. I also take Lercandipine 20 mg. Recently, I've started having back aches and flu-like symptoms. I've also lost my appetite, have no energy, and just feel exhausted all the time, so I think it's time to discuss with the doctor if a change of medication is needed. I don't know if Atacand can build up in the body or not. I have blood tests regularly, and they have always been good."

For High Blood Pressure "I have had a terrible time with this medication. Has not brought my blood pressure down. I have been having heart palpitations, sharp pains in my chest that are so severe I thought I was having a heart attack, also trouble breathing. I was fine on a lower dose with side effects, but it wasn't bringing my blood pressure down, so the doctor increased it to 24 mg from 8 mg. I hope other people have better luck with it. Just wanted to let people know if you're having these symptoms, that's what it is. Thanks."

For High Blood Pressure "I’ve been taking 4 mg of Candesartan for approximately 3 months. Didn’t do anything to lower my BP. So I then started taking 8 mg, and my sinuses got so bad my eyes were constantly watering to the point that my eyes were swelling, red from wiping them all day. I am coming off them."

For Migraine Prevention "I started on 2 mg in June, gradually increasing to 8 mg daily at the present time. In this time, the pain from the migraines has almost stopped, which is great, but I am still getting visual disturbances and some vertigo. Although I am grateful that this has helped, I am now feeling unwell, so tired, and just not myself. I'm waiting to see the doctor to check if it could be the candesartan, hopefully not, as I don't want to go back to square one!!!"

For Migraine Prevention "This has been a godsend for me. I’ve suffered from crippling migraines for about 10 years, which had escalated in frequency to the point where I was having headache days for half of the month. This was despite my trying a number of different preventative drugs, most of which I found had side effects I couldn’t tolerate. I started taking Candesartan two months ago; initially 4 mg for two weeks, then building up to 8 mg. I’ve not had a single migraine since I’ve been taking the higher dose. That’s completely unheard of for me. Side effects are minimal; it has dropped my blood pressure, and I have to be careful sometimes when standing very suddenly as I can feel a bit dizzy, but I’m aware of that and it’s not severe enough to cause problems. So happy to have been prescribed this medication as it’s changed my life."

For Migraine Prevention "Been on them for about 5 months now, and I was having 2-3 migraines every week, which basically stopped me from living my life. I've since had 1 in the past 5 months. I get the odd headache and frequent infections, but compared to 3 migraines a week, it's nothing. Honestly, my migraines were so bad that I was getting one straight after another. Sometimes I would be in bed for weeks, and now I'm out all the time, going places, spending time with my family. My life has completely changed."

For Migraine Prevention "I have severe aura migraine, so I get a prescription from my doctor, Candesartan, beginning with 8 mg up to 32 mg. When on Candesartan, I have more aura (zigzag) attacks than before using Candesartan, so I started to back the medication from 32 mg to 8 mg, and now I take no drug for migraine prevention. My doctor said: Try Topamax instead, to see if this can help instead! I really don't know if it's worth it, but has anyone used Candesartan and then went to Topamax and got reduced aura migraine? It would help me to know from anyone's experience. Also, I tested taking ibuprofen under an aura (zigzag) attack, and 10 minutes later, I have two auras at the same time instead! No ibuprofen for me. Thanks in advance. Bob"

For High Blood Pressure "Family many with high blood pressure. I had approximately 140/76, 136/80. Started candesartan after two other meds caused side effects. Candesartan only took BP down maybe to 130/76. After 3 months, I quit it cold. Gained 10ths on it, very tired in afternoons, sleep terrible, anxiety often, but no cough, no headaches, no water retention, but must have slowed my metabolism to gain 10 lbs in the first month. Took 8 mg only."

For High Blood Pressure "Was having very irregular heartbeats and BP around 140/82, so decided to restart Candesartan after 8 months. Initially took 16 mg mornings, but did not improve either BP or erratic beats. So discussed with GP and now take 8 mg mornings and 8 mg bedtime. Well, what a difference. Beats now 54-62 average and BP now 119/69 averaged over the last two of three measurements. Now the beats are regular, my stamina and tiredness have both gone to the better. No other side effects noted. 75 yrs. Comfortable taking this medication for the present."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking this medication for 8 days. From day 2, I have had severe back pain, which is only relieved by lying down, but once I’m up walking for a few minutes, the pain returns. I also feel weak all over. My blood pressure has not gotten any better. I want to know if the back pain will resolve in the short term or if this is constant while on this medication. Also, how long before my BP will improve? My cardiologist has told me to try Amlodipine 5 mg. I don’t know what to do as the side effects of this drug seem worse."

For High Blood Pressure "This medication did not work for me. I started experiencing anxiety even though I never had this problem in my life. I also experienced tightness in my chest and had trouble with digestion. It didn’t bring down my blood pressure. I made one trip to the emergency and two trips to my doctor, who changed my medication to Amlodipine, and all of the negative symptoms were gone. I am back to normal and my blood pressure is now 120/65. I guess every person is different, but don’t suffer if one medication doesn’t work for you."
