Wellbutrin XL (bupropion) "I have battled depression and anhedonia my whole life. I have always tried to manage it through diet, therapy and exercise. I had reached the point where I could find no joy and I was simply existing. Life became incredibly arduous and, quite literally, painful. I had zero interest in any activities, often forcing myself to participate in the things that were expected of me. The only thing that I truly enjoyed was sleeping. I finally saw my doctor and, after a long chat, we settled on Wellbutrin because I really “ wanted to want to do things. “ Fast forward to today, 4 weeks of taking Wellbutrin XL. My life has completely changed for the better. My mood is stable, I have more energy than I ever expected to, my confidence has returned after decades of struggling, I no longer feel sad in social situations and I have become more fit because I am inclined to exercise every day. I am enjoying all of the things that I struggled to get through for so long without side effects."

"This medication has made me calm. The first week, toooo calm and kind of out of it. But, it took away my desire to drink, my desire to eat as much. As far as depression? I haven’t been on it long enough to tell you if it’s effective for me. It was described for depression. So far, I think the fact that I’ve been eating less and not drinking is what’s making me want to stay on the medication."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "Wellbutrin was the first anti-depressant prescribed after a long bout of depression and some anxiety at 31 years old. I was fearful of taking medicine for depression and unfortunately Wellbutrin added to that fear. My mood plummeted, suicidal thoughts intruded, and I felt crazy. I stayed on it for 3 weeks hoping I would ride out the side affects and things would even out, but when there wasn’t a change, I couldn’t risk staying on it longer."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "Right away it made me extremely fatigued, gave me heart problems, made me a zombie and made depression worse. Nothing for anxiety. Straight to the garbage, feel so much better after stopping. Will be giving Doxepin a try now."

Wellbutrin XL (bupropion) "Where do I start? Wellbutrin has saved my life. I was very nearly ready to give up on all of it, and then I saw an ad for Hims, and took the survey. I was prescribed the generic brand of Wellbutrin, Bupropion, and I have never felt better, quite literally. I still have some hiccups here and there on 150 mg, so I am about to start 300 mg, and hopefully, that will complete the metamorphosis to my true self. If it worked for me, it will work for you. Basically, if you're on the fence about it, don't be. It is a miracle. This is all coming from someone who has never done a pharmaceutical in their life, save for way back when when I got a root canal and the dentist had me take a Percocet beforehand. At any rate, if you're thinking about taking an antidepressant, then think no more. Wellbutrin is the drug for you."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "This is an honest review. It is not a horror story. It is to help prevent someone else from having my experience. I was an avid user of this medication since January 2023. I started with 150mg. I had minor headaches and mild relief for like 8 hours. Then, a crash would happen where I felt depressed like clockwork every day without reason. I moved up to 300mg. It helped me to stay mellow for the entire 24 hours, which I found great. I started 300mg in February. Come March (this month), I started to have severe shortness of breath. I was eating and don't have a heart condition. I don't have any severe allergies. I am healthy outside of my mental health struggles. I would be eating and struggling severely to breath during and after the meal. I took emergency allergy meds thinking I had developed one out of nowhere. I took iron pills thinking I had low levels (Google will lead you down a rabbit hole). I thought I was suffering from GERD (Acid Reflux). I was going insane. It was the pills."

Wellbutrin XL (bupropion) "I am a 52-year-old man, and I have been experiencing constant headaches/migraine, and degenerative neck/spinal issues with an unknown cause. To manage my symptoms, I have been taking various medications that have different side effects, leading me to feel depressed. Additionally, I have been smoking for over 35 years. In an effort to address both my depression and potentially quit smoking, I asked my primary care physician to prescribe Wellbutrin XL. Although I had no intention of quitting smoking, I began taking 150mg once a day. Surprisingly, after only two weeks, I woke up one morning and decided to quit smoking. I did not experience intense cravings or mood swings during the transition. It has been a month since I quit smoking, and although my depression has not completely subsided, I am feeling alright. The only obstacle I have encountered is that many things taste bitter, even water. Nonetheless, my smoking habit is going away nicely. I recommend giving Wellbutrin XL a try if you are considering quitting smoking, even if you do not have the intention to do so. It worked for me."

"I’ve been taking generic Wellbutrin for 2 months now. I have since been unable to cope with work to the point of having to take extra time off, am incredibly suicidal dry heave in the mornings and at night. I cry at every perceived inconvenience and feel so burnt out. Pros: I eat less and have easily stopped vaping after years of it, but I want to kill myself? So I’m crushed that this works but also doesn’t ."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "I started taking Wellbutrin because I am in a fast past nursing program. At first, I thought it was working well. It hit me within 30 mins of taking it. I took it for 3 weeks and things got worse, I felt so anxious I would cry, and I couldn’t go out because I was panicking so badly. I started to get really bad insomnia and really bad thoughts, every second of every day. I stopped taking it and I am better most days now. everyone is different and some things work for some and for others it does not."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "I have mixed reviews of this medication, this made me extremely hyper as if I had 13 cups of coffee, jittery, made my heart beat super fast, I was doing mindless tasks around the house and out the house like organizing carts and stuff in the grocery store, it made me happier but then when it wore off I had intense anger beyond imaginable. I loved how energetic it made me feel, oh and it made my libido skyrocket."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "As with almost every other anti-depressant I've tried, I developed severe tinnitus within 48 hours of taking Wellbutrin (100mg SR). Ears ringing loudly, burning. So had to stop. I already have low grade tinnitus from Celexa, which a doctor put me on when I was a teen, and it never went away. (Over 25 years ago) So I can't risk it getting worse."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "I have been taking Wellbutrin consistently for about 5 months. I have noticed an improvement in my mood. For sure less agitated and not feeling on edge. When the world is chaos I have noticed my house stays a lot more tidy. When everything is chaos around me, I am now patient and “okay”, which is fantastic."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "It helped mostly with preventing moring sleep inertia and hypersomnia, but after 18 months on it I stopped because it made me crave sweets/carbs and made it impossible to control my eating. I will now lose the 20 lbs I gained since starting Wellbutrin SR 150mg."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "This was my 'miracle drug' for Severe Seasonal Affective Disorder for maybe 6 years before it stopped working. The first dose was very overstimulating, but I had medications to counter that. The only side effect I noticed at first was short-term memory loss, but it didn't matter if I couldn't remember yesterday because I had a life I was able to enjoy. But as it stopped working my memory got so bad that I couldn't read for two years because half way through a sentence I'd forgot what I'd read, let alone the sentence before it, so I couldn't string them together. In the end I was taking 450mg/day and was feeling very flat, unmotivated, mentally vacant, and emotionally numb - basically the opposite of how I felt when it was working at first. Now I am off of it and I noticed that my compulsion to play online games completely disappeared. Wellbutrin does still work when I increase the dose, but only for about a week. This winter I will try TMS."

"I gave up on antidepressants after only experiencing bad side effects for years. I can't take SSRIs, lithium caused my organs to fail, and antipsychotics give me akathisia. I decided to ask my doctor about starting meds again because I was really hopeless. My doctor was hesitant to start bupropion bc I am recovered from an ED, but we gave it a shot and it has changed my life. I don't have to drink 4 cups of coffee to get through a day, I can get work done, and I can feel content. I've never had such a good result from an antidepressant. I take 300 mg XR daily. I lost 15 lbs, and have been unable to gain them back. It's not a deal breaker but I don't have any more pounds to lose. I also have constant tinnitus, which has become more bothersome lately. This might be making my migraines worse too, and my doctor is concerned I'm having partial seizures. It would be a 10/10 if I was sure that it's not causing these issues."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "I have mixed feelings about this medication. I know so many people whose lives have been changed for the better by taking this. I, however, had the complete opposite experience. I wanted to try a non-stimulant route for my ADHD, but even at the max dose, it never fully helped. It motivated me to get out of bed and do my daily routine, but I never truly got anything done. The thing that really got me was the anger it made me feel. I have never been an aggressive person. My friends had told me they had been walking on eggshells with me, as well as my family. As with all antidepressants, how you react to them just depends on your brain chemistry. If you take this medication, PLEASE monitor your mood and how you react to things."

Wellbutrin XL (bupropion) "This medication saved me, I know it sounds dramatic and cliche but it honestly did. After the first 2 DAYS I noticed a difference. Funny, I didn’t realize how depressed I was until the darkness started to lift and I started feeling better. I was in so much pain mentally that I actually hurt physically, my body ached every morning. I was hurting so bad. I was tired ALL the time, I could hardly make it through the day and I was in such a dark place I felt nothing could help me but death. It was that bad. I quit smoking and drinking, started exercising and was shocked at how good I felt mentally. This might not work for you, I get that. there is NO such thing as a miracle pill, we all have to give it a 100 percent too. It won’t work if you don’t work with it, it’s an an aid not a cure. Good luck to you all. Wishing you nothing but peace and happiness. It will get better ❤️‍"

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "This is hands down the best medication I have EVER taken. I’ve been on a wide range of medications to manage depression and anxiety. They either cause weight gain, unbearable side effects, fatigue, or they just don’t work. It took about 2 days of Wellbutrin 100mg twice a day to see a difference. I have lost a total of 13 pounds since November 1st. I’m so glad I took the advice to wait it out. The first few weeks were rough. Food was repulsing and my stomach was kind of upset. But I have no side effects any more and the benefits are never ending! More motivated and in a better mood. Please don’t give up on this medicine!"

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "I'm finishing my fourth day on Wellbutrin. Never tried it before. I shared with my GP that I've been having feelings of impending doom--and my sales have decreased significantly with the current economy--worrying a lot. Since self-employment and impending doom are a bad combination she suggested I try it. I'm 64 but my husband and I enjoy an amazing sex life and I didn't want to mess that up. And I'm fit so I didn't want to risk gaining weight. Since starting it (150mg), I've had a few headaches and a few short periods of nausea. Sleeping is so much fun because the dreams are so vivid. So today I've had amazing energy--no need for coffee--didn't even think about it. I've been really happy today. Has to be the drug. I can be very difficult and blow my top over little things sometimes and I always feel so bad afterwards. I'm praying this will help me keep things in perspective and not blow things out of proportion. My poor husband has suffered. So far I would recommend it"

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "I experience mild to moderate depression and anxiety that increases in relation to relationship and elder care challenges. I also have just felt a little bit sad all my life, like my happiness scale was set lower than the norm. After taking Wellbutrin for about 2 weeks, I started noticing feeling more calm and more moments of happiness. It took longer for annoyances to cause me to be snappy with my family. It has sustained over the 11 months I’ve been taking it. It feels a 20% boost in happiness. The one thing it hasn’t helped with is the anxiety I experience while driving but I don’t believe it’s indicated for anxiety - I could be wrong. The first few weeks I felt a little light headed or out of it but I didn’t notice side effects after that. The reviews on this site led me to try it, so I wanted to repay the favor."

"I have mixed feelings about bupropion. In the first days after taking the medication, I felt like the best I've ever felt in my life, extremely energized, motivated, and happy. No sexual side effects whatsoever. The only side effect I had was a lack of appetite. Unfortunately, all those positive effects faded as time passed, and after prolonged use, there were no positive effects left. I'm currently studying psychology, and I have learned that dopamine receptor doesn't work in the same way as serotonin which means it's easier and more effective to recapture serotonin than dopamine. I truly advise using this medication for short-term or sporadic use, for example, 1 or 2 times a week. If using that method, the tolerance won't build up, and it can help you go through your day. But I massively don't recommend using it for a long time or taking it every day. The effect will disappear."

Wellbutrin XL (bupropion) "I was prescribed Bupropion HCL XL (Wellbutrin) 150mg for my Postpartum depression. It worked very well! It didn’t work 100%, but it got me out of my funk and I was able to be the mother I needed to be for my daughter. I have had normal depression since I was 14 years old (now 26), but I have never experienced something like post partum depression (PPD) before. Motherhood guilt and dealing with the “loss” of my old life was so severe, I was borderline suicidal, was doubting everything I would do, I would cry mostly for no reason every single day, and to this day my memories from the first year of my daughters life is very hazy. Don’t get me wrong, my daughter is and always has been my whole entire world, but motherhood and the adjustment to my new life was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through. After taking this medication for about 2 weeks, I started seeing the light again. I enjoyed being a mother to my daughter. Give it a try! I had no noticeable side effects :) I take it every morning."

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "300 MG XR for roughly 5 years. Overall good experience, about 8.5/10 . Family friend took me to a clinic after not getting up for multiple days on end. Started this medicine as a “why not”. Do not expect it take effect for some time. I was told 6 months for the structural brain changes and it may have even been a bit longer, however you will feel effects much earlier maybe about a month. Insomnia may be immediate. Very easy to use, it allowed me to wake up finally and experimented several times not taking it after I had established a better morning routine and would essentially be back to my useless state. This showed me it definitely was having effects. It didn’t feel as though I lost any part of myself while on it , but rather there was a bit extra. This leads me to my major negative which was my increased aggression and overall emotional shortness. It became irrational while driving. Despite this ,still better than being a lifeless blob."
