Wellbutrin XL (bupropion) "Helps me wake faster in the morning. Thinking clearer. Helped me get over sexual dysfunction (SSRI induced years ago). Stopped SSRIs, but residual emotional scarring remained. Was on Lamictal and Depakote. Exchanged the Depakote for Wellbutrin XL and my girlfriend commented I went from boy to man in less than a month. Superb concentration and continuous connected thought."

"I've been on 200 mg bupropion (regular release, not SR/XR) total for over 5 years, along with an SSRI. I have depression and ADD. The bupropion helps the focus, though it can make me feel impatient and irritable when it 'peaks.' I like it because it helps with the depression, ADHD, and restless legs and helps offset the negative effect of SSRIs on libido. It does make intrusive images/thoughts worse. I will have sudden mental images of violence (for instance, suddenly getting slammed into by another car while driving), but I'm used to my brain being a pest, so I let it roll off me. Helps with motivation, planning, and organization. Can cause dry mouth and slight ringing in the ears."

"Went on bupropion to quit smoking 20 years ago. Was diagnosed with adult ADHD about 5 years prior. Although I didn't quit smoking, my ADHD symptoms were curbed. I wasn't as anxious about things, I was able to prioritize better and was able to listen and focus more."

"I'd been seeing a psychiatrist who had me on Adderall for about 2 years. My ability to take care of myself had increased greatly, but I still didn't have a job. My vocational rehab program sent me to a new doctor who decided to take me off the Adderall and prescribe this instead, despite the fact I had made improvements on the former. It's been almost 4 weeks. Maybe because I'm already used to taking something different, it just doesn't feel effective. It feels like a very neutered version of Adderall, and I often find myself sleepy and tired. I can focus on things, but only a little bit. I can remember things sometimes, usually right around when I take a dose, but my long-term memory is shot. I feel anxious and stiff too."

"Started Wellbutrin 150 XL once a day last year. Went up to 300 XL once a day. I felt very hyper, so went back to 150. Six months later, tried above again. This time, feel great. Very calm. Wonder why that is?"

Wellbutrin (bupropion) "Been on it for almost 2 weeks. Feels like nothing's getting better. Used to be a caffeine addict, stopped that, but now I have insomnia from this. Still have trouble waking up, getting motivated. My heart races and this puts me in a careless and out-of-it mood and I want to try something else."

"Day 2 was great. Felt focused, motivated, cleaned the entire basement, rearranged the living room. After that, it was downhill. Sleep disruption, panic attacks at work and home, crying fits, agitated, paranoid, nausea, and headaches. They say to wait 4-6 weeks, but for the sake of my family, I’m done. If you are prone to anxiety, this is NOT for you."

"Wellbutrin worked great for me until my doc accidentally changed my dose without telling me, and I had an overdose that almost killed me. It snuck up on me, I was fine until I suddenly was having a grand mal seizure and severe psychotic episodes. I'm now taking 150 mgs and out of nowhere had more symptoms tonight and thought I was going to have another seizure. I didn't, and the feelings went away, but I'm scared and quitting this drug after talking to my doc. I'm also making an appointment with a neurologist. I guess just please be careful. Don't mess with this medicine at all!!!"

"I started taking generic Bupropion XL at 150 mg once a day to help with lifelong focus problems and lack of physical energy (ADHD-PI (Inattentive Type)). I was told that this was an off-label treatment and that it might not work, but I was interested in the long half-life of the active metabolites and wanted to give it a try. The focus and wakefulness that it restored were very promising, and initial hypertension and blood pressure artifacts faded by the first day. However, there was a persistent lack of ability to easily recall facts or synthesize new ideas, and my normally bubbly and chipper mood was blunted to a moderately lower level. After day three, I quit. I think the nicotinic antagonism inhibits memory and critical thinking for me."

"Garbage for my ADHD. Doctor even upped the dosage, still leaving personal daily used effects everywhere, still unable to concentrate on simple tasks. Having the inability to focus and wanting to simultaneously leads to fits of rage. I don't know how this ever got considered for ADHD."

"My doctor prescribed me Wellbutrin XL 2 months ago for depression and ADHD. It has truly helped with both. I began planning and cooking meals, exercising, and I have more motivation, and I focus much better. However, I had to quit drinking coffee because the drug makes me feel anxious. I describe it as irrational/unreasonable. For example, one day I was in Walmart with my toddlers, and I felt like I was going to have a panic attack. I think I'm going to give this drug another month, and if the anxiety persists, I may ask to try something else."

Wellbutrin XL (bupropion) "I have been on Wellbutrin for several months and am amazed at how it has helped my ADD. My anxiety and sense of being overwhelmed are so much better. However, I'm finding that 4 to 5 hours after taking my pill, I am having severe dizziness to the point where I feel like I'm going to pass out and all my limbs are about to go completely limp. It almost feels like an out-of-body experience, and I'm losing control. Not good since today it happened while driving my car - it lasted for about an hour and then subsided. It's happened many times during the day while I've been at my desk working. So, I see my doctor this Thursday and am hoping that I won't have to go off it. The side effects of the stimulants that I've tried have been horrible."

"I am 60 years old and have been on 150mg for 2 months. I am calmer now, my focus is better, and I am not reacting to things as quickly. The anxiety I have had all my life is so much less than before. Getting things completed - at work yes, not at home- still disorganized. Have never been on meds for ADHD, but I believe ADD was behind the low self-esteem, overwhelm, and social or GAd anxiety. My son is ADHD."

Wellbutrin XL (bupropion) "I absolutely loved this medication. Within a few short weeks, for the first time ever, I was able to complete tasks I never thought I'd finish. In one day, I excitedly completed 6 projects that had been sitting around unfinished for months. Sadly for me, I got a horrible rash and realized I was allergic to it. I've tried a few other medications, but for me, nothing's ever come close to being as effective."

"Diagnosed with ADHD at age 21, I was unable to take the typical agents used to treat ADHD, namely stimulants. Wellbutrin XL has been a godsend for me to help battle some of the ADHD symptoms without the nasty side effects in the come down of stimulants."

"I have been taking Wellbutrin 150mg XL for only 2 weeks now and I already feel the difference for my ADHD! I used to be on it for the same reason and always got the same positive effects. I decided to get back on it because of my severe anxiety, depression, and ADHD caused by my ADHD, and let me tell you, it works just as well as Adderall, which I used to be on for years, without the harmful effects on the body. I decided to stop the amphetamines and stimulants and to get on this Wellbutrin XL and I am focused, motivated, productive, happier, motivated, and I only expect things to get better. Wellbutrin has been a lifesaver!"

"I was suffering from constant fatigue, possibly depression-related, in addition to my ADHD when I initially sought treatment. Bupropion really helped me get out of the worst of it, lifting my mood and increasing concentration. Unfortunately, over time it also increased my tics (comorbid Tourette's), and I developed really annoying urinary problems, while the positive effects seemed to wear off, so I discontinued usage."

"I was put on Wellbutrin in place of Adderall after being on Adderall for several years and after a stressful relationship ending. I was having mood swings and just feeling lost. The first couple of days off of it, I noticed nothing. The 3rd day, I had racing thoughts, the urge to talk over people, and a really difficult time sitting down because I felt like I needed to move. The 4th day, things got awful. From this point until day 15, I was severely depressed, had dark thoughts, felt completely unlike myself, and experienced such immense sadness I was unable to function. I stopped the medication, and after 2 days, I felt back to normal. I don’t really identify as being depressed, this medication made me feel what I imagine being depressed feels like. I gave it a go one more time a couple of weeks later. The 1st day, I felt great. The 2nd day, the crushing sadness set in. Wellbutrin was not a match for me."

"So I was prescribed bupropion XL for its off-label use for ADHD (since it's an NDRI, I guess) at 150 mg, 2 tablets if after 2 weeks of use one is not enough. The first few weeks I noticed a few of the issues others have described here, such as increased irritability and aggressiveness. But after a small withdrawal period (for me it was 2 days of basically having a flu that makes you tired and hungry) and a larger, more steady prescription schedule, I've been on it for over a month and it's been great, I don't even have those aforementioned side effects anymore (I do get a stuffy nose, but it's manageable). Even in the first few weeks I noticed how it helps with my ADHD, but recently I have also noticed that it takes about 4 hours until the effect 'peaks' and it really starts becoming effective. So with my schedule, it's around 11 when I feel like it's easier to get stuff done. I've also lost weight, but I'm not quite sure why, since I still get hungry and I still eat regularly."

"My doc and I decided to put me on Wellbutrin 150xl as I was seriously depressed. Losing my dad really did a number on me. Anyway the first 3 weeks were not pleasant as I simply could not sleep despite how many sleeping pills I’d take. However week 2 my appetite came back and I started to be a bit more active. I thought it would keep improving but it didn’t. However, 8-9 weeks in I wake up one day and couldn’t believe it and was so scared this feeling wouldn’t last, but I finally felt “normal” just myself , the crazy thoughts went away, I’m back in the gym, riding my bike. I pretty much got my life back just as I was ready to give up. Oh so I’ve been on adderall for over 20 years and absolutely don't like it for different reasons. And getting off is not easy. Anyone going through the same, when the Wellbutrin kicked in, I started taking less ADD meds. Only to realize I was able to drop it cold turkey. This med literally saved my life and got me off pharma coke ."

"I have been on this twice, once for 8 months a couple of years ago, and again now. I stopped taking it the first time due to my doctor going on holiday so I ran out of my medication and couldn't get a refill, and then because of my ADHD, I struggled to get to the doctor again. I am a heavy smoker, and ironically, this drug didn't help me quit at all. I wish it did, but it didn't. However, it helped me massively with my depression and ADHD symptoms. Without this drug, my brain is always racing and chaotic, but taking bupropion 300mg SR makes my head quiet, relaxed, and peaceful. I am able to concentrate on the things I need to do. Life is much, much easier. My libido goes up. I feel even-keeled and am able to function like a normal adult. I stop having bad anxiety. No bad side effects for me. The only thing is, if you are also autistic like me, it can make your autism more obvious as it makes masking even harder to do. I recommend this very much for ADHD and depression."

"The first three days, bupropion worked like a miracle. I was very calm, my inner restlessness was completely gone. I had some side effects, like a mild fever and stomach ache. But that was well worth the effects. The best and most surprising effect was that my tics were reduced by roughly 90%. On the 4th day of my medication, however, I felt 0 effects from the medicine, and I haven't felt anything since. We tried upping the dose to regain the amazing effects, but this only made me depressed and gave me suicidal thoughts. My advice is, try this medicine, but be careful. It can work like a charm, and it can turn out horrible."

"Prescribed bupropion 150 mg XL for ADHD and mild depression. The first two weeks were great, both categories of symptoms greatly reduced. Calm, focused, and happy mood. After the first two weeks, ADHD symptoms returned, yet mood is still improved. Went to 300 mg and not much has changed. Typical side effects were minor and manageable. I would recommend for depression, not for ADHD, in my case."

"I highly recommend staying away from this drug bupropion. I was pressured into trying it for my ADHD. I was very apprehensive but figured what's the harm, I could always stop if I don't like it. After about a month of using it I stepped up the dose as recommended. I developed a twitch when falling asleep that still affects me to this day, almost 2 years without the drug. From what I've read it could be permanent. It completely prevents me from being able to fall asleep about 50% of the time. It's called myoclonus. I'm so mad and am currently seeking legal representation. I feel I've been injured and should be compensated. Bottom line listen to your gut. If you don't want to try something DON'T!"

"I have been using other medications for years to try to treat trauma-related anxiety/depression. About 1.5 years ago, I suffered a miscarriage and needed this medication to temporarily get me out of PPD. I went off of it 4 months ago, but something was not right. I started to display severe ADHD symptoms more aggressively (I've had trauma-induced ADHD for years). This year, I was finally diagnosed with ADHD. They once again put me on this medication rather than a stimulant because we knew it worked for me and my body. It has truly aided my emotional regulation, focus, and many other abilities."
