For Cough "I am extremely disappointed that it did not help with my cough. Unfortunately, I am allergic to codeine, and my doctor prescribed benzonatate as a good alternative. I was hoping to finally get some sleep at night, but it has not happened."

For Cough "Diagnosed with a chest infection after surviving influenza b. Literally coughing for hours and days -night time was awful. to the point I wondered if a cough could finish me off. Was on antibiotics and prednisone for 3 days with no relief and a swollen throat and mouth. I called the dr after peeing my pants at a work meeting in front of 30ppl. Was so annoyed this is what they sent to the pharmacy ( expensive! And I wanted the real deal) HOWEVER I feel like they are saving my life right now! I managed to sleep for 5 hours straight before waking up to a 2 hour coughing fit. I read it’s important you space them out. You can only take 3 200mg/ day. They definitely improved my quality of life for the time being and are giving me hope! If I can rest between cough fits I feel like I’ll survive. I’m happy to not be pissing myself anymore!!"

For Cough "This medicine has saved my life. I had pneumonia for 2 months on 2 kinds of antibiotics. I couldn’t get well until I started benzonatate. My deep tracheal cough significantly improved. By day 10, mucus evaporated and overall strength came back. I call it the 'angel of mercy.'"

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "Tessalon Perles worked very well for me. Stopped the hacking cough of COVID dead in its tracks. The only side effect I've had is a slight increase in sleepiness, which, given the situation, isn't a bad thing. It makes it easy to rest while recovering."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I can feel the medicine start to work after about a half an hour. I'm going on my 3rd week with a bronchitis cough and it's the worst. It gets so bad that I can't breathe and my head hurts. I've never had coughing fits like this in my life, so I didn't know if these pearls would work. They make me a little dizzy and tired, but I can tell they work. The relief is amazing. They last about 8hrs. I wouldn't say they take the cough away completely, but there's definitely an improvement."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I've had bronchitis for two weeks, and the Tessalon Perles have not worked for me. What has worked, to sleep at night, is taking 2 Benadryl Liquigels at bedtime. During the day, I drink a lot of water, suck on Ricola extra strength cough drops, and I have an albuterol inhaler."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I take care of a 94 year old and she came down with a horrible cold with cough. Her doctor prescribed tesslon pearls and within a matter of days she started hallucinating and started going into crazy dreams. She got confused so bad she had no clue who anyone was or that her house was even hers. At the same time she was also prescribed a steroid to help her lungs. Her family would not let me take her off the tesslon pearls. They kept saying it was the steroid. It clearly states in the list of side effects that hallucinating is something that can happen. Read the side effects of this medication before taking it people. Especially when your giving it to elderly!"

For Cough "This stuff worked when nothing else would. I just couldn't stop coughing from a seasonal allergy cough that turned into a nasty cold. The coughing was wearing me down. I was exhausted. After one use, my coughing slowed down and eventually only a couple of light coughs a day. I was able to get some rest and finally started to recover. It was a game changer."

Tessalon (benzonatate) for Cough "Diagnosed with bronchitis and sinusitis, I had been unable to sleep as I was coughing terribly all night long. My doctor prescribed me Tessalon Perles, and the coughing stopped immediately! I felt relaxed and wonderful and was able to lay down and sleep. However, 5 hours after taking 2 pills, the effects wore off, and I was thrust awake, coughing something fierce again. Just wish the meds would last longer!"

Tessalon (benzonatate) for Cough "After being unable to sleep for more than 15 minutes at a time for three nights in a row, even with my head elevated on several pillows, the doctor gave me this. My nonstop dry cough stopped for up to 5 hours, and then it came back, but less severe. It doesn't last 8 hours, but it allowed me to get some much-needed sleep. Sucking sugar-free cherry Luden's cough drop and/or swallowing a teaspoon of honey without water help also. Also take Mucinex to thin secretions."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "Was prescribed for cough from bronchitis. At first, I was reluctant to take it as it said it caused drowsiness, as I am hypersensitive to meds. I finally got desperate enough to take one and was actually able to sleep in my bed after 4 nights in a recliner. It has now been 6 weeks, and I still have coughing fits if I don't take the Tessalon. I am hoping this will eventually go away. The only thing you might consider a side effect that I have had is that I have these crazy dreams. Not nightmares, but just craziness. Thank goodness for my doc! :)"

For Cough "I took benzonatate about a year ago. I get really bad allergies, which triggers my asthma, which leads to me having a terrible cough. My doctor prescribed me benzonatate, and it worked very well for me. I felt like I couldn't breathe, and once I took the pill about 30 minutes to an hour later, I felt like a new person. Currently, it is allergy season for me, so unfortunately, I am in the same position once again. I took benzonatate earlier today, and thankfully, it worked for me once again."

Tessalon (benzonatate) for Cough "So I get sinus infections all the time. I got nervous the last time because the doctor made a comment about how I wouldn't be to get the cough syrup with codine that I relied on to stop me from coughing (it was literally the only thing that worked). This time I got prescribed tessalon along with a z pack and Sudafed. It feels like magic. Where had this been my whole life? Normally my chest is in pain and I can't take more than one breath without coughing. I'm taking 100mg every 4 hours and just slept 6 hours straight!!!! This is unheard of for me. I will be asking for this every time I have a cough."

Tessalon (benzonatate) for Cough "I found Tessalon very effective. Much ahead of OTC syrups. My cough is a racking type with extreme pressure on the sternum. Tessalon works very well. In my opinion, its ability to relieve the cough by controlling the 'nerve center' is why it is so effective."

For Cough "Physicians are prescribing Benzonatate in the hope (against evidence) that it will work. Because they are getting squeezed by regulators concerning hydrocodone or codeine mix medications. Benzonatate is ineffective against persistent cough. It flat out does not work the way that medicines with opiate additives work. So as long as there are unscrupulous doctors who have literally thrown these narcotic based meds at patients for profit or whatever motivation, honest, well-intended people will suffer with medications that are inferior at doing the job. This is my second week of taking Tessalon Perle and I can honestly say that it is a waste of your money. You might as well have a honey and brandy drink (providing you don't have an issue with alcohol). I can also recommend hot steamy showers, a cool room and lots of inactivity. Get some sugar-free candies that you can leave in your mouth and good luck."

For Cough "I had flu with a bad cough. The other flu symptoms resolved after a few days but the cough did not. I was prescribed benzonatate as a cough suppressant. I took one capsule, and within about 20 minutes, my sinuses were clogged and congested. This means I can't breathe through my nose, which means I'm breathing through my mouth, which makes my mouth and throat dry, which causes me to cough, which is the thing that was supposed to go away with this medicine. It's done absolutely nothing for the cough, and just gave me a cold on top of flu."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "The worst choice of medication to treat a cold. I had a cold return after 6/7 wks just to be given the this same medication again. My cough is worse and the headache from the pressure is a nightmare. Constant coughing at night. This is day 3 of the second go round with this cold and I'm not taking it anymore. It does nothing for the sinus drainage and it just makes the cough worse not better. Will not make another apt for a different antibiotic so over the counter here I come!!! This is a waste for a $200 visit."

For Cough "I didn't have a runny nose or cough, which I told my doctor, just a very sore throat, ear pain, fatigue, and fever. He prescribed me the benzonatate caps 100 mg, and as directed, I took them, and 3 days later, still feel the same. No different. The pills have started to make me cough, but not bad. Sometimes after taking the pills, I fall asleep and wake up because I can't breathe. I don't feel it's helped me at all."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I was really sick for a week and went in to see my doctor for cough that was uncontrollable. He first prescribed amoxicillin. That did not help with my cough. Then I was prescribed Tessalon Perles and it seemed to work. I was having itchiness all over my body. Also welts. I then realized it was the Tessalon Perles that was doing it. I stopped taking them. Now I don't itch but still have a cough."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I have had the Tessalon Perle prescribed for me twice now in the past 6 mos. Neither time has it worked for my cough. I have COPD, and get bronchitis at least twice a year. This by itself will NOT treat bronchitis, you need a antibiotic. In past I've had a Dr at Urgent Care prescribe a cough syrup with codeine in it because my cough (especially at night when laying down) was so bad I wasn't sleeping, and abdominal muscles ached from coughing so much. That was a God send, and is usually the only thing that helps with this type of cough. I have told my Dr to not waste time calling in script for the Perle anymore. It's a waste of money."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I use these particular for a dry cough I get. They work best when I just have a nagging cough that is nonproductive and my coughing creates irritation that produces more coughing. They stop the cycle. If I have a bad cough from a cold with full lungs my dr gives me something different."
