For High Blood Pressure "I have taken benazepril for probably 15 years or so and had done really well on it, but over the last year and a half developed tingling and numbness and pains, and red fingertips and bottom of feet turn red, and sometimes now have Raynaud's. Sometimes feel like throat swells or tightens. Gastro doc says I have mild reflux, but this is only felt in the throat and nowhere else."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been taking it-10 mg-once a day, usually at night. It has definitely helped lower my blood pressure. But I've developed an annoying cough. Can't seem to take a deep breath in. I'll get checked out by my doctor-maybe try something else that doesn't cause coughing."

For High Blood Pressure "Benazepril is a great hypertension drug. It got my blood pressure under control. No more headaches, though I do urinate more while taking it. I have tried other blood pressure medicines that did not work or work as well."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking Benazepril for the last month for reducing hypertension. I have never had a problem with high blood pressure in my life. 6' 0'', 290 lb, 57 yr. old former football, baseball, and soccer player. Coached high school athletics for 32 plus years, and now I am taking this medication to control my blood pressure. My side effects have been a roller coaster ride up and down: fatigue, a dry constant cough, dizziness, light-headedness, and insomnia. See my doctor today, since my introduction to this medication is about over. Hopefully, he can change to something better without the side effects. It does control my blood pressure at times but has also lowered my blood pressure too low."

For High Blood Pressure "Benazepril for high blood pressure: Like the previous user. The medication actually worked great for my blood pressure. One small pill daily. I developed a cough that would not go away, especially at night. I also have severe asthma, so I don't know if that has something to do with the medicine not working out. The cough is a dry cough and NOT fun. I wished the medicine worked out for me."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been taking benazepril for at least a decade. I have recently reduced my dose from 20 mg to 10 mg because my blood pressure dropped on its own. The only side effect is the dry cough, but it only happens when I'm a bit dehydrated and goes as soon as I drink. It's inexpensive."

For High Blood Pressure "Have been taking for years. HBP since early 20s, now 68 years. I’m in great physical shape. Played high-level tennis for 50 years, skiing the same. Cycling now and still skiing. No side effects ever. Guess I’m lucky. Never had a cough, etc."

For High Blood Pressure "Almost one month I've been taking benazepril, have gotten a dry cough here and there, and it stops immediately, nothing I couldn't live with. Now going into the fourth week, wow, I'm getting chronic pains all over my body almost as if I have arthritis, and worse, it's so paralyzing, headaches too. I wanted this medication to work because I tried amlodipine and metoprolol, and my life was awful with tons of side effects and severe depression. Then I tried olmesartan, didn't have a lot of side effects, but it's the chronic body pains, I can't do anything. But I'll stay with benazepril for as long as I can to see if all these side effects go away, if not, I'll have to change again."

For High Blood Pressure "Have taken Lotensin for some years with as-needed dosage adjustments. Pharmacy only had the generic available this last time - Benazepril. I tried to use it a few times before, but each time there were too many side effects. So I took Lotensin, although expensive, less side effects. This time I had no choice, the Benazepril has given me a dry cough, and the feeling is all my heart is racing, i.e., palpitations. I hate it. In the meantime, making an appointment to see my doctor so I can go to a pharmacy that has my Lotensin in stock."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking benazepril for almost a year. I have been pre-hypertension most of my adult life. Last year I weighed close to 250 and became stage 1 hypertension. My doctor suggested losing 50-60 pounds or taking benazepril. Give me the medicine... I like to eat. Anyway, with some exercise and taking benazepril, I now weigh 240 lbs and my blood pressure is in the high normal range. I'll work on the weight. I do find myself tired at times. This is the only complaint I have. I would recommend this to anyone."

For Left Ventricular Dysfunction "It's working fine for me in controlling high blood pressure. But early morning, when I wake up, I feel tired, maybe I need a little more sleep. I will discuss this with my doctor on my next visit to him."

For High Blood Pressure "Benazepril did not lower my blood pressure. My head felt half congested. My hair was more prone to coming out when combing and did not feel good. Then the doctor added Verapamil, and I hoped things would be better, but they were not. I was very, very anxious and had some heart pounding. I quit taking it."

For High Blood Pressure "Caused a dry, irritating cough that occurred during the day and night. Controlled my blood pressure, but I finally gave up on it after 2 months, as I couldn't stand coughing all the time. Price was great, nice small pill was easy to swallow."

For High Blood Pressure "I have taken Benazepril for approximately 4 years. I recently displayed higher blood pressure levels with headaches, so my cardiologist increased the dosage. This resulted in controlling my blood pressure. I have not noticed any side effects."

For High Blood Pressure "Have used for at least six years, but side effects are getting worse. On 10 mg, but cannot take all at once. Have been taking 5 mg in A.M. and P.M. since unable to function with the full dose. Has lowered pressure, but walk around in a fog and have walked into furniture. I am a very active person, but force myself to fight how tired I feel on this. Also, sore throat every day, hoarseness, dry cough, hair loss, and itchy lips at times. Just don't feel right on this. Changing to another this week."

For High Blood Pressure "For one week, I took benazepril 10 mg, one pill a day. I was feeling great the first couple of days. I'd never been diagnosed with HBP, and I could feel the difference the first day. However, I started having blood clots in my urine, which has led to many other worries in reference to my health. I stopped taking it 5 days ago, and blood clots have not been present for the past 2 days."

For High Blood Pressure "Took it for 4 or so years with amlodipine (5 amlodipine-40 benazepril)… zero issues. Controlled BP. Three weeks ago, for no apparent reason, about 3 PM, my tongue began to swell. In the span of 20 minutes, it doubled in size. Then my throat began to swell. Ended up in the emergency room, where I was given steroids and other treatment. The doctors said it was because of the benazepril. They told me they have treated people who have been on it for decades who suddenly have the same thing happen. They said I should never take it or any medication that ends in “pril” again. Since then, I’ve been prescribed 10 mg amlodipine, and it works pretty good. BP is a few clicks higher but still acceptable. So, I’ll rate it a 5 because when it works, it works great, but when it doesn’t, watch out!"
