"I take 3 of the 750 mg capsules 3 times a day for my ulcerative colitis and have seen that as long as I make sure to take them at the same times every day, then it works very well and flare-ups are few. The capsules are easy to swallow, and the medication itself has been very easy on my stomach."

"I took balsalazide off and on for about 5 months. It does not work at all. I have had diarrhea on it as I did before I started taking it. My stomach pain has not improved either. And it’s really annoying to take 9 capsules every single day, they are quite big too. Not effective for me -_-"

"After years of UC, Balsalazide by Roxane put me into remission in November 2018. I took 750mg capsules nine times per day. By winter of 2021, my colonoscopy showed healed ulcers. When I saw the printed images, I couldn't believe my eyes! For suppression of the incurable disease - ulcerative colitis. I take two capsules in the morning and two at bedtime. I have taken Balsalazide 750mg continually since 2018. Yes, five years. Age 65. UC diarrhea began in the fall of 2004."

"This works well to control UC quickly; 3 BD puts flare-ups in remission within a couple days. I spare my liver & stop taking it as often when I'm otherwise behaving well (diet, exercise, stress mgmt). Interesting that people report rashes as a side effect, as I get rashes only during flares (not related to meds). And it's on Kaiser's (N. Cal) formulary - so thankful!"

Colazal (balsalazide) "This medicine really helped me get in remission about 6 years ago. I'm still taking it as a maintenance drug, but I have been flaring up for the past 2 years while taking it. Prednisone has been my savior as far as the flaring up. Next step... Remicade. We will see how it goes!"

"After three weeks, my sudden onset of ulcerative colitis hasn't cleared up much at all on Balsalazide. I set my alarm to take it three times a day, but my symptoms are still as bad as they were when I first called my doctor. I'm slated for steroids now. Boo!"

"I am a 66-year-old man. In my early adolescence, I was having chronic diarrhea, chronic abdominal cramps, intermittent tenesmus, and excessive flatulence. I decided to quit smoking, but I got worse; I even had one instance of bloody diarrhea. Unfortunately, I was always misdiagnosed as having bacterial colitis, traveler's diarrhea, food poisoning, etc. All of a sudden, these chronic miserable symptoms disappeared, and I became normal for more than two decades. In my mid-fifties, the same symptoms came back, and again I was misdiagnosed with all diseases but not ulcerative colitis. It was a moderate to severe crisis, and the bloody diarrhea was profound; my hemoglobin was 7 gm/dl. Luckily, my wife took me to a brave doctor (my angel); he decided to do an urgent endoscopy, and finally, I was diagnosed properly: ulcerative colitis (bimodal) in 2012. Since then, I have been on balsalazide 750 mg x 3. For the last twelve years, I have been living a normal life and have never used prednisolone again. I never skipped a dose."

Colazal (balsalazide) "This worked for me, but it started to make my hair fall (thinning) out, so I stopped all meds. My hair recovered. I found loratadine and Claritin helped me stay in remission."
