Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "After one year of nonstop diarrhea, going 15-20 times a day and on the 7th ER visit and admit, finally a hospital doc gave me this. He said some people have to take it forever. It stops the D, and I take senna and stool softener so as not to get constipated. BUT it blurs my vision and makes me feel funny, and also it gives dementia. I cannot take it forever. I am going to switch to Loperamide, maybe a month of one and then a month of the other, off and on, but the Loperamide does not work as good as Lomotil, and it makes my heart race. I wish the gastro can find out what is wrong. I am 68 and never had any problems, then all of a sudden a year ago it started. I have diarrhea whether I eat or not."

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I was in the hospital for severe ulcerative colitis. I was so bad I was going 20 to 40 times a day. Right now I have no insurance, but can afford Lomotil, and it has me slowed down to 3 to 7 times a day, which I love and can more than live with. It does say it can blur your vision, but so can diabetes, and I take so much prednisone it makes my sugar stay high all day too."

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I had diarrhea several times a week and especially when we went out. I felt housebound. After beginning dosages of Lonox, I was more comfortable, able to travel, and able to eat out. Because of these improvements in my health, I also am more secure in leaving my house."

For Diarrhea "This is a miracle drug for me, and it has allowed me to have a life again outside of my home. I received severe, permanent internal burn damage from radiation for anal cancer and have been in Depends incontinence pants for 7 years due to diarrhea, which I could not control. I stayed home almost all the time out of fear of having an accident while out. I am so happy that my new oncologist suggested I try this! I am in real underwear for the first time in 7 years and going places and doing things again. I have tried many meds over the 7 years, and this med worked miracles for me."

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "Have been on Lomotil for 20 years, had total proctocolectomy, take 8 tablets daily but still go 8-10 times to the bathroom. Lomotil gives me life, without it, I don’t go out. For me, it’s a miracle drug. Don't really see why it doesn’t work for some people. It slows down your intestinal tract to have fewer bowel movements. Actually, I don’t care how many movements I have, anything is better than a colostomy bag!!!!!"

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "If you're sensitive to any medication, I don't recommend taking it. I had an adverse reaction, and it caused me to end up in the ER. I started out taking one dose and then began feeling anxious after several hours. Against my better judgment, I took a second dose, and the next morning felt nauseous, which then led to vomiting that wouldn't stop and severe anxiety. It also caused my heart rate to increase. I had to be treated for dehydration and nausea, as well as something to calm my heart rate. An FYI, I found out the hard way that Imodium AD also has similar effects on my body. I guess I'll try and go a more natural route."

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I am taking Lomotil because I had surgery. Then a bone infection set in, and I had to take IV antibiotics, which caused extensive diarrhea. The first day I took Lomotil, it worked great for about 10 hours, but the following days decreased in its effectiveness. By the third day, it was no longer working for me, but I attribute this to the antibiotics. I will have to let my doctor know so that he can possibly prescribe another anti-diarrhea medicine or change my antibiotic."

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I have been on Lomotil for 3 years now. The first year, it worked pretty well controlling my IBS and diarrhea. The last 8 months, I go many times a day and am in pain. Finally, got an appointment with a new GI specialist. Hopefully, he can get me back to where I can live a halfway normal life."

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I suffer from severe IBS-D and chronic colon inflammation. I’m on Viberzi 100 mg a day, along with Pepcid every couple of days, and I take 1-2 of these Lomotil a day. I also follow a strict diet, but I will often have 3-4 bouts of diarrhea a day, sometimes more. I was very nervous to take it because my GI doctor said it’s similar to Bentyl, and I had awful, awful side effects with Bentyl that made my D worse. I’ve been taking this for a few days consistently so far, and I’ve noticed a lot of improvement. I notice after I take the second dose (usually in the evenings), I get a little tired, but it usually wears off within the hour. Overall, I’m pleased with this. I don’t know if it’s gonna be the cure-all for me, but it has reduced my diarrhea a little bit and cramping throughout the day."

For Diarrhea "I have had severe diarrhea since I was 13 years old. After countless other trials on different medications, with no success, I was finally put on Lomotil. It has changed my life, I no longer have to go 6 or 7 times a day or constantly arrange my schedule around my problem. I have been on it for 2 years now and, unfortunately, was misinformed by a former GI doctor that it was no different than Imodium, or I would have tried it earlier. Very effective!"

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I am 74 and in good health. My wife bought some whole milk at Costco last week because it was a good price. I started eating cereal every morning for the first time in years. One night, I ate a lot of cheese too. I started having diarrhea on Thursday, which kept getting worse. I went to the bathroom at least 20 times a day for the next 3 days. Imodium or Pepto-Bismol didn't help, no matter how much I took. Our doctor called in a script for Lomotil, and I started getting better immediately. We have now found out that many older adults develop an allergic reaction to all dairy. Thank you to our smart doctor and Lomotil. I never want to go through that again."

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I cannot live without Lomotil. It was taken off the market for a couple of years, which left me unable to leave the house. I have no gallbladder, and part of both colons was removed. I am dairy and gluten-free, yet still have periods of nonstop liquid diarrhea. I take Lomotil twice a day preventatively. If I get liquid stools, I take it four times a day, and therefore it ceases. This drug is a miracle."

For Diarrhea "I have had IBS-D for my entire life. I have been on every medication available with no success in treating the diarrhea until now. My latest GI doctor prescribed this when I told him I was to the point I was having trouble controlling my bowel movements. It has worked wonders. No side effects except hard stools. Not difficult to pass but hard nonetheless. I can deal with it and if I took a mild laxative, it would probably help. I'm just happy I don't have the sudden explosive diarrhea I had and can actually leave my house and go out to dinner without worrying about an unoccupied bathroom being available."

For Diarrhea "I am a veteran. I suffer from PTSD, severe anxiety disorder, agoraphobia (deathly fear of leaving my home), and within the last 2 years, IBS. My diarrhea was truly horrid. IBS topped with severe anxiety is unfathomable. I went through every test possible, including CT scans and multiple colonoscopies, just looking for some reason, any reason, for the constant times spent literally in a panicked run to the bathroom. They didn't reveal a thing except that you are not immune to having an 'episode' just because you are in a CT machine; very embarrassing. I changed my medicines around and wound up with the opportunity to try atropine without nasty interactions. It has not completely cured me, but it is by far the best I've tried, and I have been on many medicines."

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I have had C. diff for almost 3 years. The infection has been controlled, but the symptoms persist, primarily liquid diarrhea and anorexia. Lomotil in dosage ranging from one to four tablets per day has almost completely controlled these symptoms, allowing me to lead an acceptable life, whereas without it I am a helpless invalid, confined to my toilet."

For Diarrhea "Had a bout of what I was beginning to think was food poisoning. Long story short, I landed in the ER. This was prescribed for me, along with antibiotics. I have taken exactly one pill, one, a little over 48 hours ago. Have gone from extreme diarrhea (every 15-30 minutes) to not being able to go at all. From one dose. Does this stuff work as advertised? Unequivocally, yes! I am a bit nervous at this point as to whether I will ever be able to 'go' again? I have to admit - yes!"

For Diarrhea "I have ulcerative colitis and was just prescribed atropine/diphenoxylate along with Asacol. So far, it has only been a couple of days, and my bathroom urges are down significantly, from 10-15 to 3-5 times a day. Where has this been in the past 2 years? I was taking Imodium, and it was not doing much. I can actually go out now and not worry that I won't find a bathroom in time."

For Diarrhea "Crohn's dx and anxiety disorder. I had a 4th-degree tear during childbirth, and the doctors were unaware I have Crohn's until 4 years later. This was after surgery in an attempt to repair a rectal-vaginal fistula. I would go into extreme flares after each surgery, then the acidic diarrhea would eat away my perineal wall and rectum/vagina. I was wearing diapers for 4 years until I finally was diagnosed. (Bag) I was taking Lomotil and an opium tincture to control the diarrhea, alternating oxy and Vicodin for their constipating effect. I can get some constipation for a few days after using Lomotil, which is painful in itself. I prefer hyoscamine for remission."

For Diarrhea "This medication really helped me, and it works fast. I do agree with one comment a consumer made, it can constipate you. I went from one extreme diarrhea to not being able to go at all. I guess you just have to figure out how much or how many doses are best for you. Still, I'm glad my doctor prescribed it for me."

For Diarrhea "I've been taking this medicine for colitis for 3 years, and now I can take my daughters out by myself. I'm not running to the bathroom or having accidents, it's wonderful. I do have constipation. So anyone with colitis should try it - I take 2 pills in the morning, then 1 every 5 hours every day, and I'm loving life finally."

Atropine / diphenoxylate "My current favorite. For people with serious IBD, this is one of the only anticholinergic meds that cuts bowel motility to a manageable level. It's able to reduce the 20+ daily trips to the loo down to single digits, and I'm learning that with proper timing, it makes changing an ostomy rig much easier. Teams well with belladonna alkali."

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I have had a lifetime of IBS-M. From being dosed with paragoric at 5 years old to now. Imodium just doesn't give me relief. Lomotil works quickly, no side effects. It lets me eat again, after drinking water and tea for days. Wish I could stay on it forever! Then the other issue would arise. What a life!!"

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "I've been using Lomotil for a few months now to treat chronic diarrhea from IBS-D. It had several side effects at first, including itching and intense abdominal cramping, but after a few weeks of regular use (one pill in the morning, one at night), the itchiness went away, only occasionally being a problem, a little bit of restlessness at night sometimes, and occasional cramping, but a heating pad usually works. The only problem is if you miss a dose, you'll get crack addict withdrawal symptoms to remind you (intense full body itching). In general, it's curbed my 3-6 daily diarrhea episodes to 1-2 regular bathroom trips (with daily 3 tablespoons psyllium fiber, enzyme supplements, and dicyclomine, but I need more help than most). Now I can actually do things with my family and friends without worrying about whether or not there's a bathroom nearby! The benefits DEFINITELY outweigh any downsides for me!"

Atropine / diphenoxylate for Diarrhea "At the age of 34, I had uterine cancer and had 6 weeks of radiation therapy. My GI doctor said that my chronic diarrhea was caused by damage done to intestines due to radiation. I have been on Lomotil for many years. I am able to have a life with this medication. I have never had any side effects. It is truly a miracle drug."
