Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I had my first migraine and prescribed Fiorinal 40 years ago and back then, then they were occasional. As I've gotten older, they are more frequent. This is a problem for my neurologist because Fiorinal is on the restricted use list, here in New York. We switched me to Fioricet and for three years, that was OK, but then the Tylenol started bothering my liver. Got a new script for Fiorinal and to my surprise, it only comes in capsule form and in my opinion, does not work as well. I hope they will bring back the tablet form. The tablet works the best and I can't understand the need to change to a capsule. Why reinvent the wheel?"

Butalbital Compound (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "Have used butalbital for 8 years. The only drug that has ever worked to alleviate migraine pain. Now it won't be prescribed because it is classified as a "rescue drug". Well, so "rescue ME" from the pain I've experienced from me late teens until now age 64! I have run the gamut of the other migraine meds -18- at last count. Even called the FDA to no avail."

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I've had migraines for 40 years. This works 9 out of 10 times, usually in about 20 minutes. Occasionally I've had to take a second pill or dose, but 1 pill almost always does the trick. The other 10 % of the times I use Maxalt or its generic form. My insurance has recently dropped coverage for this inexpensive, very effective drug. I'm not happy and plan to appeal for coverage."

Butalbital Compound (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I never had headaches until after giving birth to my second child. When she was around 3 or 4 I had my first REAL stress/cluster/migraine medication and had to go to the hospital. After that, I discussed with my Mother who has had them for many years. She told be about the Butalbital. I requested it and was finally pain free and able to work ( business owner in marketing and PR, on radio and TV, events, seminars, etc - so not easy to cancel) with no "weird" feeling. 20 years later and countless "specialist" visits and experiments, I'm sticking with butalbital. It's the ONLY thing that I know will work- stress adds to my headaches. Mom is in her 90's and amazing, so if it's bad for you - wow, she's a shining example of life without headaches!!! Most people are shocked to hear I suffer from them, I am energetic and very active."

Butalbital Compound (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I am now 72, and I have had migraines since I was young. The worst migraines started when I was in grad school, but were episodic (related to menstrual cycle). They kept getting worse. When I was pre-menopausal, they converted to chronic migraine (15 or more/month); I started using Butalbital about 25 years ago. I've tried everything else, including "natural substances," and only Butalbital works to interrupt the cycle, so I can function daily!"

Butalbital Compound (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I’ve been taking this for years! I’ve been getting migraines since age 11, and still get them almost daily! This medicine works great for treating migraine at onset. I also take Imitrex tablets and injections when I wake up with a migraine. I’ve been through so many types of meds (natural and prescribed), but this works the best! I feel like I have to jump through hoops to get it prescribed though!! DRs don’t like to prescribe bc it has butalbital/! Smh!"

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "This has been the only drug I have been prescribed that has actually helped with my migraines. I have been on it for a couple of years now and it is not as effective for me as it once was and the side effects sometimes make me feel off for the rest of the day, but I have always thought that the side effects were better then the pain of the migraine. It is the only one that that has worked for me so my go to drug."

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I have used this drug since 1979 @ age 27. Two day weekend headaches after a rough week were frequent (about 15-20 headaches/year) over next 10 years. They laid me up for hours or days. If taken within a few hours after a headache began, fiorinal is very effective. Wait a day and pain is partially reduced but lingers for 24 hours or more. Headache frequency gradually declined with aging. At current age headache frequency is down 95%. Fiorinal was a great help to me."

Butalbital Compound (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "Butalbital is my go-to migraine medicine! Thank goodness my OBGYN prescribes it for me. Aspirin and a cold coca-cola help with light headaches. A good nights sleep and a regular sleep cycle are critical. When you wake up, slowly ease up on 2 pillows and then get up 1-2 minutes later."

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I've had chronic migraines since 1984, almost on a daily basis. I've used almost every migraine medicine ever made. The "fiorcet", and "fiorcet with codiene" are the only 2 that have ever given me any relief."

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "November 2015, I saw my doctor about headaches - he saw a correlation to 'a stubborn cold' which I did not have active signs of and suggested OTC meds or later prescribe meds with steroids. The major problem with my 'bad' headaches diminished until a week before Christmas - migraines, not just bad headaches. On Wednesday, 1/6/2016, I went to an emergency clinic and was prescribed Fiorinal, specifically to address migraines. Any time my headaches were severe, I ate and took two Fiorinals. The pills did nothing to diminish my headaches. Instead, I napped often with a blindfold. Today, 1/11/2016, I took two before work. I rated my migraine at 7-8 out of 10 (high pain). At work, took 1 OTC (brand name) Migraine pill; rate a 4."

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I have been using this drug since close to FDA approval in 1976. No side effects, works within ten minutes. Doctors have tried to get me to use "newer" drugs but this one works like a charm. When I was younger I used it at least twice a month now only use it twice a year if at all."

"I'm a 72 year old male who has hereditary migraines (inheriting from my mother and passing it on to my son) from my early teens. I've been to countless neurologists prescribing any and all migraine medications, none worked except this compound with added codeine. I experience an initial aura (loss of partial vision) with the deep pain oncoming within a half hour. This may be combined with nausea. The onset of relief from this medication coincides with the pain onset perfectly. 2-3 hours of a dark room and rest and the episode is over. I carry this medication everywhere I go, it is indispensable!"

"Started taking about 6 or 7 years ago. This has been the one medication I don't have wild side effects with, like panic attacks or seizures or swelling. This medication helps with about 80%of my migraines. Most of the time relieving at least 50% of the pain if not most or all. It always helps at least dull the pain enough to go about my day to day. It has been the best rescue medication I have tried. I used to suffer from migraines at least 15 to 20 a month. 7 or 8 of those severe. I have not had severe migraines since. (Severe: where I wanted to shove an ice pick in my temple to make it stop, or smack my head into the wall, couldn't hold a conversation, couldn't walk, see or hear. Constant nausea and vomiting)"

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I have had migraines since the age of 12. I have taken Fiorinal for 50 years. Once I get an aura, I take one and I'm done. This medicine is amazing. The ones who want to take it away are the ones who don't suffer. I've never had a problem with this drug. They need to focus on improving what they can't fix, like cancer."

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I suffered as a young child from severe migraines. One doctor, by a miracle, prescribed Fiorinal. It literally saved my young life. I am old now and still use it, though headaches are much less. You will not believe it, but when I do use it, I even get relief from my idiopathic neuropathy. It is truly, for me, a miracle drug. I never got addicted. I never abused it, but to this day, I still use it. Not every day, but I definitely still use it, and I am 82 years old now. Everyone is different, but again, for me, a miracle and remains so to this day."

"1960s Doctor said I was having growing pains and the headaches were something I had to live with. 1970 Med-school friend told me of Fiorinal when I told him I was starting one of those blinding 3 day headaches. 2 tablets and 20 minutes later the pain was gone. (Worst tasting medicine ever!) I carry a cylinder with 2 capsules now and forever. Recently insurance got weird spouting that I was going to get addicted to the pills. Duh, terrible addiction, I take 2 caps about every 2 weeks when needed."

Butalbital Compound (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I've always used butalbital/tylenol/caffeine combo. I have found that the manufacturer depends on how well it works for me. When its a good manufacturer it works very well. Still wondering if this has tylenol why do my ears ring? If too much motrin they ring & I never take aspirin. Anyway that's my experience."

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I have been getting these nasty migraines for sometime now, and not even three percocet's work on it! I called the doctor last night and she called in a prescription for Fiorinal. I went and picked it up and took one tablet and within 1/2 I had some relief, then finally 1 later no migraine! Yesterdays migraine started at 1 pm and lasted until about 8 pm. I am still neutral about this drug, however I don't have a migraine today so I think it might have worked! I would like to hear more relief/non-relief stories if possible."

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I have suffered from migraines since I was in grade school; I'm now 40. I didn't know about treatments until I started college. Midrin had worked wonders for me for years...and then it stopped. Fiorinal and many of the triptans did not compare; they took longer to take effect and I could not deal with some of the side effects. I have started seeing a well-known neurologist who has finally gotten me on the right treatment (topiramate to help control the frequency of migraines and Relpax to help at onset of migraine attack). It feels so good to actually have normal days!"

I have taken fiorinal for about 3 weeks now. It is not helping at all. Putting a heating pad on my head works better than it does. Hopefully I can try something else."

Fiorinal (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "I’ve used this prescription drug for maybe 25 years. Always effective, and quick results. If taken as soon as the aura begins, most times I avoid the migraine all together. Over the years doctors have had me try a myriad of other options. All either didn’t work; or caused significant side affects. As for addictive properties, for me… not at all. I may use it a few days in a row (I call it my “migraine rut”) but never feel the need to continue it otherwise."

"I have been diagnosed as having New persistent daily headache. That means every single day, ALL day for the last 5 years I've had a headache that varies from just a headache to a full on borderline debilitating migraine. I have noticed that this medicine does offer some relief for me. I am sensitive to a lot of medications and also allergic to many. I noticed with this medication, when I do take it, I often feel like I want to take more. Even after the medication has made my headache tolerable I literally think about this medication. To me, that shows it can definitely have some addictive tendencies and for a person whose condition is not likely to go away this could be a real issue. this is more for a once in a while migraine."

Butalbital Compound (aspirin / butalbital / caffeine) "Been on a combo of fioricet, tramadol, flexeril. Worked great. Was on for more than 25 yrs, now can't find a dr to prescribe them . They act like the barbitiuate in it is as dangerous as codiene or cocaine. Really? been on it most my life. I was on a pretty high dose, 2 fioricet, 2 tramadol, one flexiril all 3x daily. But,,, not near the migraines I do now. Oh, don't forget the zofran for nausea. I have a migraine now and last 4 days. Nothing to take but ibupro, so hard on my esophagus and stomach."
