Apixaban "I am 67 years young, pescatarian, no sugar. Exercise daily, take 5 mg x 2. The only side effects I have are some minor itching and fatigue. Been on Eliquis for over 10 years. It does well for me. An occasional espresso helps some, but eating well is the key. Don’t fool yourself by eating junk."

Apixaban "I used it once for DVT while in the hospital. Experienced severe dizziness and headache on the left side of my head all day and an overall ill feeling. I decided not to take it. I used Xarelto in the past for PE with no major side effects and will most likely go back to this."

Apixaban "Been on Eliquis for about a month, and they found a blood clot in my vein leading to my ovary, which is now gone, but the side effects are horrible. I’ve been extremely tired, no energy, headaches, gaining weight, swollen ankles and legs, dizzy, can’t concentrate. Was taking 10 mg in the morning and 10 mg at night, which was even worse because I felt like passing out, blood pressure dropped real low, and I was really dizzy, so they cut it down to 5 mg in the morning and 5 mg at night, so side effects didn’t change much. I want off this medicine."

"Taking this medication for months and now have some memory loss, and at times I can't read a word that I know. I can't even think of how to sound it out, which is very worrying, and I can't spend too long out in the sun or I will get the effects of sunstroke, and that will last for a day or so. I'm getting off this and going back to Celaxine. This is my experience, and I haven't seen anyone else with the same, well, that's been reported. Thank you."

Apixaban "I started taking it immediately after being diagnosed with DVT (etiology unknown, and I am very low-risk). I was hobbling around Day 1. By Day 15, I was quite ambulatory. Day 20, back to my bicycle with no pain but still can't walk more than 400 yards or stand for more than 5 minutes without discomfort. Day 29 (today), the swelling is still there but has subsided quite a bit. I take pictures of my calf to chart progress, and there has been progress, though still several months to go. There have been almost zero side effects, a slight amount of lightheadedness."

"I have been on apixaban since last September, but the last few months feeling unwell, a lot of joint pain, started in my legs then neck and eyes blurring, now in my arm, so tired all the time. I just want to see, as I'm going to ask to come off it as it makes me also feel sick at times. I can't go on feeling like this, I don't have a life, went on holiday the pain was really bad, not a good drug for side effects."

"I was diagnosed with a DVT while on vacation in November 2019 and subsequently discovered I have May-Thurner Syndrome. The first month on Eliquis, I felt terrible. Dizzy, fatigue, the doctor said this is the best medicine for me. These side effects did go away, however, I gained some weight and started going to WE and having a difficult time losing weight. Discouraging!"

Apixaban "For me, eating snow peas, string beans, and salads... NO, NO on Eliquis. Every body is different. What works on one does not necessarily work for another. I had more leg pain. In fact, it was more difficult to walk. I stopped eating the green stuff and in a few days was able to walk better. I tried eating green vegetables again, and the pain returned. I stopped eating the green vegetables and was able to walk better. Just my experience with Eliquis and green vegetables."

"Had a DVD, so put on apixaban, and I thought everything was fine. No side effects for a few months until my hair started to fall out-heaps. No mention of it in the pamphlet provided with the medication, and it took several visits to my doctor, who eventually referred me to a clinical pharmacist who confirmed that it's a rare side effect of apixaban. Nightmare, and still waiting for hair to start growing again as it has a delay period of several months for the hair to recover."

Apixaban "I have been using Eliquis for nearly 2.5 years after a second DVT and bilateral embolism. Have just had minor discomfort, lost weight, and am still working. After I came home from the hospital due to lockdown, I'm back at work now. Do get a headache every now and then, but I put this down to the stress of the job. But so far, everything's okay."

Apixaban "I had blood clots in my right leg. Started taking Eliquis on 09/16/21 and will complete the medication on 12/16/21. This medication works very well for my situation (I am a renal transplant recipient). Apparently, this medication is also responsible for lowering my blood sugar levels, also."

Apixaban "DVT right calf, unknown cause, started on Xarelto, switched to Eliquis after one month due to concerns I had from research. The only side effect is constant aching in my arms and hands that interferes with sleep. Tylenol helps some. I hope to be off this medication, but am grateful for it. Waiting for test results to see if the cause requires this medication."

"I’m on apixaban as I suffer from May-Thurner Syndrome, which was diagnosed after a DVT. I’ve been on it for 9 months. The main side effect for me is weight gain. I’ve put on a stone in 9 months, which is crazy. Fatigue also. But I’ve rated it if it’s doing the job of no more DVTs. Just wish I could stop it. Probably on it for life."

Apixaban "Had blood clots develop in leg while traveling once and while flying once. The Eliquis helped to save me several times. Back in the old days, would've been hospitalized, and who knows what could've happened if the clot broke free. I'm reading on here there are a lot of side effects. So I'm not sure if I will take this any longer since reading all of the side effects on this message forum..."

"I was prescribed apixaban for blood clots and possible pulmonary embolism (PE). The clots are gone, and I do not have a PE. Maybe the medicine helped, maybe it was something else. However, I experienced dizziness, muscle weakness, nausea, and being tired most of the day. Looking to ease the effects, I get told to stand slowly! Almost the entire day is spent feeling horrible. Is there really any benefit to staying on this medication for another month?"

"Hoping this is not just me, but I have been taking Eliquis for 3 weeks now, and whilst the clot seems to have diminished, I am now experiencing a lot of tremors. My whole body shakes on and off throughout the day, usually when resting. It only lasts a few seconds and then stops, but this happens repeatedly during the day and sometimes when I am trying to sleep. Is this a side effect of this drug as I cannot find it on the leaflet?"

Apixaban "My son was put on Eliquis one week ago for a DVT in his leg. He is asplenic from 6 years ago. He got babesiosis microti from a tick bite. He was diagnosed on June 30th, 2021. His DVT was ascertained on July 16 after his second hospitalization. He was admitted on July 21st for chest pain when breathing. It was not cardiac-related throughout the whole hospitalization process. It was clearly pain on taking breaths, which required him to do shallow breathing. His pain was in his chest that went to the left shoulder. Eliquis was started on 7/16/2021, and his symptoms started on the evening of July 20th. He is 30 years old this past May 2021. Just curious if the Eliquis is responsible or an additional factor that caused this to happen. I am acutely aware that the babesiosis microti is an extremely life-threatening illness for somebody who is without a spleen."

"I am a 25-year-old male who took apixaban 2x a day due to DVT related to a rugby injury. Whilst on the drug, I had no energy and was miserable. I'm glad my 3 months are over, and I'm away from these now. A week off and I already feel like myself again. Over the period, my resting heart rate has gone up from 56 to 68, and I have gained 10 kg."

Apixaban "I developed DVT in my left leg behind my knee three weeks ago. They immediately put me on Eliquis 10 mg twice a day first week, 5 mg twice a day continuing. The first couple of days, I broke out in a crazy rash around my neck and chest. It looked like I had been burnt, it was so red, but I could see the bumps. The next day, my legs felt so weak, almost shaky, but this past week, I walked a quarter of a mile up and back with my dog with little issue. But now today, day five, my left buttock feels like it’s on fire and this has kicked my sciatica. I suffer from severe bone disease and fibromyalgia, so that may be coming from these things, but it sure beats screaming in the middle of the night because my leg hurts so bad I can’t stand it. My cheek has to burn for a day or so. It’s still worth it, even though it hurts. I am on pain meds, so that does ease the ache a little bit. Still again, it beats screaming your head off in pain and being afraid to rub my leg at my knee area for fear of breaking the blood clot off."

"I had my first DVT in 1990. I was treated with heparin injection, then after one month with Coumadin for 6 months. After that, the doctor told me to stop it after my blood test came back okay. Then after 8 years, I had a second DVT in the same leg (left), but at that time I had surgery. The doctor did the Vena Cava filter, and they put me on warfarin again for the rest of my life because the blood test showed I have two low proteins, C and S, in my blood. That’s why I'm prone to blood clots. After many years with warfarin that I hated a lot because you have a lot of restrictions and you have to do blood tests all the time. So when I heard about Eliquis, I asked my hematologist to put me on it, and it was a great relief for me. Now it’s been 10 years, and I’m very happy with it, and I really recommend it."

Apixaban "I’ve been diagnosed with DVT and PE 2.5 years ago and have been taking Eliquis until this time. While reading some of the comments, I should say that those are common side effects (headache, body malaise, fatigue, low energy, hip and joint pains) that can also be triggered by other factors like your lifestyle and age. If you’re young and on Eliquis and you’re not eating and exercising, you can have issues. If you’re older, these side effects could be part of the aging process and other body issues that you have. A drug may work for some but not for all. I just want to say that what keeps you alive and does not put you in the graveyard is the considerable drug to take. If the drug hinders you from earning a living or keeps you bed-bound, then switch to another blood thinner. Research, and with the help of a doctor, do what’s best for your body."
