For Pulmonary Embolism "I had an appointment with my doctor last week. I told her that something isn't right and I'm not feeling well. As I was trying to explain my symptoms I was slurring when I talked, plus I was very confused. She ordered a bunch of blood tests and a CT scan of my head. About an hour after seeing her my phone rang. It was my doctor telling me that I have to get to the ER right away. She told me that the blood test was positive for blood clots. While at the ER I was given a CT scan of my lungs. The tests showed that I have a blood clot in both of my lungs. The doctor put me on Eliquist. I am not pleased with the side effects. I have been having shortness of breath and horrible heart burn. I'd advise anyone to research all of the drugs and find out all of the side effects before taking Eliquist."

For Thromboembolic Stroke Prophylaxis "Been on Eliquis a month as I have AFib. So far, blood in my stool, shortness of breath, stomach pain, red rash like hives on legs (one goes away, another one shows and itches bad). Feel bad and weak. But HEY... NO STROKE... JUST NO LIFE."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Symptoms of joint pain, fatigue, and burning skin came on gradually until it felt as if I had the flu with burning skin. Symptoms started to resolve within two days of discontinuing this drug. You couldn’t pay me to take it again."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Following knee surgery I developed a blood clot. The doctor originally put me on Xarelto and that was a disaster Dr had to take me off of it after 3 weeks and we switched to Eliquis. Almost immediately after beginning to take Eliquis I start to have random itching sensations all over by body. At first I didn’t think anything of it, but after 4 weeks on it I started to have uncontrollable itching late at night and extreme swelling in hands and feet due to the scratching. I would also develop hives and what looked like diaper rash all over my body. Luckily between the two drugs the clot is gone and I am back on aspirin. I have only been off of Eliquis for 5 days and some of the rash and itching has gotten better but not yet gone. I think some of the interactions seemed to be related to what I would eat."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I was prescribed Eliquis after getting a pacemaker, and then the troubles began. Rapid water retention of 50 pounds occurred the first year. Then gout, a kidney stone, and finally I could not walk 15 feet without holding onto something or sitting down. Then sleep was another problem, 3 or 4 hours a night, with stiff and painful mornings followed. My life changed from very active to almost an invalid. Doctors treated me, tested me, they all claimed nothing was wrong with me, all vitals were within normal guidelines. This is my current state and has been for over 2 years."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Within 5 days of taking Eliquis, I have an itchy rash on both sides of various parts of the body. It is particularly itchy at night after a couple of hours of sleep. The rash seems to appear on the same area of opposite sides of the body simultaneously, such as on the legs, upper arms, forearms, thighs, sides of the stomach, and chest. I also experienced muscle spasms in the legs, hips, back, and arms. After stopping the drug, the muscle spasms stopped, and the itching and rash cleared up within a week to ten days."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I have been taking Eliquis for more than 2 years now after being diagnosed with Left leg DVT and PE. At first, It was okay but after 6 months I noticed joint pain and thought it was just plain arthritis. It started to get worst and I can't sleep due to pain in my elbows, palms, knees, and pelvis. Due to Eliquis, I can only take Tylenol for pain. I went to emergency on Oct 2021 due to this pain and was told I have Polyarthralgia. My rheumatologist made me take a lot of blood tests, including Rheumatoid Factor, and Anti Nuclear Ab but the results were all negative for Autoimmune disease. Then last year I started having chest pain and shortness of breath and also went to Emergency because of this. After all the tests including Echo, and CT scan, they found my heart had no problems. My chest pain and some joint pain come and go, but my shortness of breath is frequent now. I asked my Pulmonologist if I can reduce my dosage from 5 mg twice a day to 2.5 mg a day. I am a 63 year old male."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Been on Eliquis for about a month and they found a blood clot in my vain leading to my ovary which is now gone, but the side effects are horrible. I’ve been extremely tired, no energy, headaches, gaining weight, swollen ankles and legs, dizzy, can’t concentrate. Was taking 10mg in morning and 10mg at night which was even worse because I felt like passing out, blood pressure dropped real low and I was really dizzy so they cut it down to 5mg in morning and 5mg at night so side effects didn’t change much. I want off this medicine."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Started taking Eliquis for a superficial blood clot (which was treated as a DVT) and within the first two weeks my mouth started itching and developed hives on my extremities. My doctor told me to take benedryl which helped. However, I would have rather been taken off the medication instead of being put on additional medications."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I wound up with PE and DVT behind right knee. I was in the hospital for 72 hours and was prescribed Eliquis twice a day. I feel like I have lost me. I am in constant leg pain, my joints and lower back hurt so bad. After two weeks, my hair started falling out and I wound up with Edema. I had sudden weight gain with no diet change. I get dizzy and light-headed and fumble to speak at times. My body itches constantly. I just want off this drug!! I feel it is poisoning me and the shortness of breath and wheezing are scaring me. Please don't take this drug. I struggle every day to walk and fight through the pain."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I was on Eliquis for three weeks prior to a cardioversion. Made me feel tired, fatigued, no motivation. I would get a headache in the afternoon and wake up with a headache. Sometimes I felt woozy, almost dizzy. After the cardioversion, I went to 1/2 tablet for a week. The side effects were somewhat less, but still terrible. I didn't feel like doing anything; dishes piled up in the sink, house didn't get swept, I just felt like sitting. I stopped taking it, and the next day I felt great. Not doing this again."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Had double pulmonary embolisms, 1 clot in my heart, 1 in my stomach and 1 DVT all at the age of 39. I was started on Xarelto. Didn't really have any side effects except losing my hair at an alarming rate. After about 3 months my Dr switched me to Eliquis. Everything is fine except the hair loss has not let up after being on it for about a month now. Additionally my platelet count is the highest it has ever been. Don't know if that is related, also had a dissected carotid artery. Really hoping the hair loss lets up soon."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "The following problems occur when taking Eliquis: First, I want to mention that I am also on Sotalol since 2008 (taken alone, no side effects) 80 mg AM and 40 mg PM. It seems as if most drugs that I try out have an effect on the Sotalol, although the register says that there is no interaction between those drugs. Besides, it runs in the family that most of us (3) have a problem with almost any drug. Eliquis: headache, restless heartbeat, perspiring, dizziness, physical instability, general weakness, and shaky legs, etc. Generally, unhappy."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I am 30 years old and was placed on eliquis 5mg twice daily after a venogram with stenting in my left groin. Since I've been on eliquis, it's done it's job as far as thinning m blood, but I've also had some really nasty side effects from it. I have been bleeding vaginally for 16 days (was on my period when I started the medication and haven't stopped bleeding), I am diabetic and take multiple injections daily so I look like someone has beat me up, I'm constantly nauseated, have no appetite, no energy, heart palpitations at times, cold all the time, night sweats, and pink tinged urine. I'm waiting on a call back from the Dr to see about lowering the dose or change going the medication all together."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I'm an 81-year-old female who was put on Eliquis for 5 weeks for AF, and I've had severe stomach pain. I've had a bad pancreas before this, but my pain has increased by at least 50% and lots of short-term memory loss. I'm looking at getting off this medicine because I just can't handle the stomach pain. Good luck to everyone."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I had a brief episode of AFib following severe pneumonia, so the docs put me on Eliquis and have insisted I stick with it despite the fact my AFib resolved on its own two weeks after multiple failed cardioversion attempts and a course of amiodarone. Now I find myself having dark, very bloody bowel movements accompanied by severe abdominal cramping. Yuck. I have IBS, but this is different. Time to insist my docs take me off of it?"

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Started taking this in August 2023 for afib. I experienced extreme pain and weakness in my arms and shoulders, but didn't connect it to Eliquis. As an example of my issues, in spring 2023, I worked three days chainsawing trees and then stacked all the wood in big piles. However, this fall, when I started the same job, I couldn't even complete one hour of work. The same chainsaw felt too heavy, and my arms were in pain. I spent the next week hardly able to do anything, and my productivity was completely shot. I went to the doctors, got X-rays, and was evaluated. I was told it was arthritis, but it was actually my muscles hurting. One day this week, I was pleasantly surprised that the pain subsided, and I was able to sleep. That's when I realized I had missed two doses of Eliquis. Bingo."

For Pulmonary Embolism "On March 10th I went to the ER due to calf pain following a surgical procedure on March 3rd. Was informed I had no DVT but did have three small blood clots In my lungs. I was sent home on Xerelto. After a week clots were gone. The doctor switched me to Eliquis 5 mg twice daily. Two weeks in I started having horrible bloating, gastritis, horrible GERD, muscle weakness, and horrible hot flashes. I'm on a 3-month treatment. I Have been told that these side effects are not from this med. I don't believe that as I've never felt like this before. I'm fatigued every day, before this, I was an active guy. Now I'm exhausted after walking up 8 stairs. I can't wait to be done with this medication. I've been to the ER several times due to severe shortness of breath, only to be told it's GERD and that I'm fine. I'm trying to make it through until June then I'll be done."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was diagnosed with a Deep Vein Thrombosis this past summer in my lower calf muscle. No injury to the area so it was labeled an unprovoked event. I started taken Eliquis at 10 mg twice a day for 7 days and then 5 mg twice a day until last week. I am waiting for the doctors consultation about the results of the last ultrasound. There was a gradual increase in side effects severity. My blood pressure spiked from low 90's-100's to 150 last week. My heartbeat is steady at low 60's per minute but pounds in the chest. My muscle and joint pain has stopped my exercising as it causes me to limp for days, and minor use of the arms causes rib cartilage and sternum pain. Constipation followed by diarrhea is on a 1-3 day cycle now. The anxiety started out rare to now almost a daily occurrence. The answer I got to these concerns last week from the doctors was to keep taking my full dose pill or die from a heart attack or stroke. The doctors don't seem to listen to the patients."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Had chest pain that was diagnosed as pulmonary embolism. Put on apixaban double dose 2 x 10 daily for first week. 2x5mg thereafter. Been on it for 6 weeks now. My stomach has been dodgy for years after ulcer but Lanzaprozole keeps it calm an under control. Since taking apixaban my stomach has flared up and regurgitating food, motions gone from solid to purée and liquified. Had headaches and fatigue. GP putting me onto alternative and suggested Warfarin. Like everything, doesn’t suit everyone unfortunately."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Was placed on Eliquis after a small PE. The clot was dissolved within three weeks, so while I’m grateful the Eliquis did its job, I begged my doctor to take me off it and got switched to Warfarin. Eliquis just made me feel lifeless. I had all day fatigue and weakness, feeling spacey and zoned out to the degree that it was very challenging to work at times, dizziness, heart palpitations, spells where I felt on the verge of passing out, difficulty swallowing, random weird pains in my eyes, ears, and extremities, back spasms and constant back pain, water weight gain and uncomfortable bloating and swelling, swollen feet and ankles, nausea, GI distress, stomach pains, and diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. Also had liver tests come back with abnormalities while on the med. These symptoms caused my doctor to refer me to several trips to the ER."
