For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I have AF. Was on Aspirin. Doctor wanted me on Warfarin. Tried it, my AF came back. After six weeks and lots of blood tests, my INR rate was still 1. Knowing some of the worst-case side effects, I was not happy to be on it. On Aspirin, I had a life. On Warfarin, Warfarin took over my life. Could not drink or eat certain foods. Could not take anti-inflammatories (for Rheumatoid Arthritis, taken as and when required, not regularly). Worried about cranial bleeds brought on by taking Warfarin. Too much worry. Complained to the doctor that she had not explained the alternatives properly to me. Was put on Apixaban at my request. Also, as a backup, was put on a Beta-blocker, as advised by a doctor in A&E after a scary AF attack. Now, three months on Apixaban, and life is good."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "In my 80s, A-Fib diagnosed 18 years ago. Tried all the drugs at the time to correct it including going through Cardiac Ablation w/o anesthesia (sedation did not help much). Nothing worked. On Coumadin until 2 years ago - didn't like the limitations on food intake due to Vit.K avoidance - switched to Eliquis. Very happy with it. Possibly contributes to constipation like other Rx I take, but can't blame Eliquis. No other apparent side effects. Glad to no longer take 'rat poison', which my son always reminded me I'd been taking and enjoying green vegetables again."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "This drug is dangerous. After a DVT, I was placed on the drug 5mg twice a day. After a week, my colon started to feel funny. A couple of days later, I developed significant rectal bleeding. I went to the ER where they diagnosed it was due to the Eliquis. I stopped the drug and the bleeding stopped within two days. I am now on 10mg Xarelto once a day. No bleeding after seven days. I have a friend who is now in intensive care with a brain bleed. He was also on Eliquis for atrial fibrillation. He had been on the drug for four months. His symptoms started with minor headaches. The FDA has it listed as a Black Box, which means it could be fatal. None of this was told to me at the ER for my DVT."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I'm an 81-year-old female who was put on Eliquis for 5 weeks for AF, and I've had severe stomach pain. I've had a bad pancreas before this, but my pain has increased by at least 50% and lots of short-term memory loss. I'm looking at getting off this medicine because I just can't handle the stomach pain. Good luck to everyone."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Severe stomach pain from Eliquis 5 mg twice a day. Only been on it for 5 days. Hurts so bad I can’t sleep. My stroke score is a zero. Less than 1% chance of a stroke. This stuff is awful. Took Xarelto for 2 months and had severe back pain."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "At age 79 and put on Eliquis 5 days ago—I have had such bad dizziness and nausea—and because of Meniere's also, the ears ringing has been awful and added to all this. I have chronic a-fib and have had two cardioversions. I was previously on 2 baby aspirin daily. Couldn't tolerate either of the other newer meds either. Everything seems to increase my dizziness due to Meniere's and adds to nausea and even confusion, etc. So, I just told my doctor, no more of this drug. I want to stay with the 2 baby aspirin daily. No history of stroke in my family, nor have I had any. I just don't do meds well 'at all'."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Much easier to use than warfarin which I was on for 5 years. The only side effect I am finding is hair loss. I checked side effects for Eliquis but hair loss was not on the list. I have been on this drug since April 2016."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I had PE (pulmonary embolism) 8 months ago. I started Xarelto, but after six months, I still had 4 clots in my lungs. The doctor changed me to Eliquis. Now, I have been taking Eliquis for 3 months, but I am experiencing thyroid problems in my blood test because of this medicine. Tomorrow, I am going to see the doctor, they may change my medicine because now I feel swallowing dizziness and muscle pain. I'm just 35 years old. I'm in big trouble."

For Pulmonary Embolism "50 years old. Grade 3 tear to knee ligament. 2 x 13 cm blood clots in lower leg resulted in PE. 2 clots broke off into lungs. Tried Xarelto, Eliquis, Pradaxa, and currently on Warfarin. All the same side effects. Shocking joint and muscle pain at night. Wake through the night all seized up. Takes 5 mins to unseize myself and sit up. Mornings are the worst. Can't walk without crutches. Have a window of 7 hrs in the day where I'm almost normal. Still seize up if I'm sitting for an hour or so. It's been 3 months now and can't get answers from anyone. Doctor says need to be on anticoagulant for 6 months. I'm at a loss :-("

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Mom (88) was on this for 4 months. Had to take her to the hospital as she was exhausted and felt very ill. Found that the Eliquis gave her bleeding ulcers, and she had to be given blood transfusions because of severe blood loss, as well as drugs to help heal the ulcers. She always ate a healthy diet. Never had stomach issues before. After she went off this, her stomach healed up and she had no further problems with it. Stomach ulcers are not listed in the warnings for Eliquis."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I have had 4 DVTs that each turned into a PE. Extremely lucky to be alive. It turns out that I have a blood disorder that makes clotting easier. I was on Warfarin for 20 years. I switched to Eliquis about one year ago. It has been wonderful. Eating salads every day, no monitoring, and feeling quite well. I would highly recommend Eliquis to anyone."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Had 3 PEs in both lungs with no DVTs diagnosed as a reaction to varicose vein surgery. Was tested for hereditary clotting factors and have 2 borderline factors. No PEs returned, but Dr. wants me on this stuff for life. Have been slowly getting more and more muscle pain and weakness all over. Thought fibromyalgia was getting worse until I stopped taking Eliquis for a few days for a medical procedure, and by day 2, felt like a new person. Informed Dr. and was told to stay on it, which I will be discussing with him next visit. The way I feel, the inactivity will kill me faster than another PE will."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I had an appointment with my doctor last week. I told her that something isn't right and I'm not feeling well. As I was trying to explain my symptoms, I was slurring when I talked, plus I was very confused. She ordered a bunch of blood tests and a CT scan of my head. About an hour after seeing her, my phone rang. It was my doctor telling me that I have to get to the ER right away. She told me that the blood test was positive for blood clots. While at the ER, I was given a CT scan of my lungs. The tests showed that I have a blood clot in both of my lungs. The doctor put me on Eliquis. I am not pleased with the side effects. I have been having shortness of breath and horrible heartburn. I'd advise anyone to research all of the drugs and find out all of the side effects before taking Eliquis."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Recently had a TIA due to A Fib and was put on Eliquis. No issues for 3 weeks until my heart rate spiked to 180 BPM, tachycardia, and feeling a flush of adrenaline throughout my body. Within 4 days, I had 3 episodes of it and was finally put on metoprolol to control my heart rate. It's now been 2 months, and I still continue to have episodes of tachycardia with the flushing of adrenaline feeling. I'm also feeling dizzy quite often and in a fog a lot of the time. I feel like I'm a few heartbeats away from a heart attack. Doctors don't seem too worried, but they're not going through it. I've never had instances of tachycardia until taking Eliquis and Lipitor. Not happy and will be asking for alternatives."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was put on Eliquis (Apixaban) 2 years ago for DVT, initially, all was well, but now I get sores on my scalp, itching all over my body, and several dizzy spells a day that last only a second, but my whole body tingles for several minutes and severe ringing in my ears. I don't like it. I am seeing my Dr on the 7/11/19, need to change it as it has caused me to resign from my job due to the unpleasant side effects."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Started taking Eliquis for a superficial blood clot (which was treated as a DVT), and within the first two weeks, my mouth started itching and developed hives on my extremities. My doctor told me to take Benadryl, which helped. However, I would have rather been taken off the medication instead of being put on additional medications."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I had a brief episode of AFib following severe pneumonia, so the docs put me on Eliquis and have insisted I stick with it despite the fact my AFib resolved on its own two weeks after multiple failed cardioversion attempts and a course of amiodarone. Now I find myself having dark, very bloody bowel movements accompanied by severe abdominal cramping. Yuck. I have IBS, but this is different. Time to insist my docs take me off of it?"

I have had constant chest pain, palpitations, and shortness of breath. I now am having blood in my urine and have been experiencing moderate to severe back pain, as well as daily low-grade dizziness and sometimes confusion."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "My cardiologist prescribed me Eliquis after my STEMI. 2.5 mg twice a day, then wound up in the hospital bleeding internally. Stopped the Eliquis, I was fine. Had a little AFib episode after bowel resection, cardiologist started Eliquis again in case of a clot. Wound up bleeding from my nose and into my ostomy bag. Filled the ostomy bag three times with blood. In the hospital, fighting for my life again."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Within 5 days of taking Eliquis, I have an itchy rash on both sides of various parts of the body. It is particularly itchy at night after a couple of hours of sleep. The rash seems to appear on the same area of opposite sides of the body simultaneously, such as on the legs, upper arms, forearms, thighs, sides of the stomach, and chest. I also experienced muscle spasms in the legs, hips, back, and arms. After stopping the drug, the muscle spasms stopped, and the itching and rash cleared up within a week to ten days."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was prescribed Eliquis 5 mg twice a day a week ago for 2 blood clots in my lower leg. I started having a gassy stomach and a full feeling even though I ate less, but I blamed that on eating more vegetables. My legs felt heavy in spite of my compression socks, but I blamed that on the socks. I had a headache and random itching, but I blamed that on my allergies. But after taking it for 5 days, my stomach hurt too much to eat. I drank some milk, which always helps my stomach, but I felt worse. I went ahead and took my usual dose that evening, then woke up at 2 a.m. with severe diarrhea. I had several more episodes that evening and the following day in spite of hardly eating anything. I had to skip work because I could not leave the house. I telephoned my doctor and left a message that I was not going to take Eliquis anymore, and I started taking a calcium antacid. That was yesterday. Today my stomach is still gassy and hurts, but the diarrhea, headache, and itching have stopped."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I am 61 years old. Have been in permanent Afib for approximately 6 years. I was originally put on 100mg aspirin for 18 months, then went on to Warfarin prior to an attempt at cardioversion. Heart remained in Afib so was soon after put on to Eliquis (5mg tab twice a day). I have been on this medication now for 4 years. Prior to being on Eliquis, I had to inject with Clexane prior to any air travel as a precaution. Since being on Eliquis I have not had any side effects, no need for Clexane when travelling. The only precaution recommended was NOT to take any medications such as Ibuprofen for pain relief or flu and cold capsules that contain pseudoephedrine."

For Pulmonary Embolism "22-year-old female. Got pulmonary embolism (PE) in March 2020. They were everywhere. Didn't get admitted. HORRIBLE pain. Seven months later, just got into a pulmonologist & hematologist. The reason for PE was never found. Eliquis worked for me, but I've had problems since I got PEs & started taking it. I feel something in my lung, inflammation levels are high, I have burning back, side, & tummy pain. Got my GB out for this. Was not it. Nobody can figure it out. I'm told I'm fine, & that is far from true. I don't know if it is the Eliquis or not. I've literally got the worst care possible with all of this."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I have been on this Eliquis for almost six months. I had a clot in my lungs. I tried asking my doctor to get me off, they say it depends on how bad my heart condition is, and they will see what they can do. I have nosebleeds every week, the last nosebleed was a nightmare. They did a rhinorocket up my nose, and it's been a week and I still have a little bleeding. I'm scared to blow my nose. I can't sleep and have no energy. I tried telling my doctor about this, but nothing happened."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "Anyone who takes this drug should have their head examined. I plan to file a lawsuit for what this medicine did to me. Nausea, headache, bruising, stiff, painful joints, bleeding, and fatigue. You name it, this drug will do it to you. I quit this drug, and any doctor who suggests taking it again will get dismissed by me."
