Alpha-Lipoic-Acid-300 (alpha-lipoic acid) "I am on my second day of using 600mg of 100% Natural R ALA. On the first day, I took it with water on an empty stomach and suffered from heartburn all day. Had to take Gaviscon to get relief. On the second day, I took a capsule with a glass of water while eating breakfast. Feel slight burning in my stomach. I decided to try ALA because I have pre-diabetes, and I suffer from bad sciatic pain, nerve pain, and burning sensations in both legs and feet. I have osteoarthritis too. I have read they can take up to 3 weeks to take effect. I cannot give a good rating at this point because of only just trying them, I’ll review them in 4 weeks' time."

"Read reviews about ALA causing hair loss. Neurologist wants me to take 600mg. Decided hair loss was not good, but internist said try just 200mg. I took that amount tonight, and woke up with itching all over my body. I am sitting here at the computer at 1:30 in the am and looked up side effects. I also just took a Benadryl and itching is subsiding. No ALA for me."

"I’ve tried taking ALA on 2 different occasions. The first time, I took for about a month. The second time for a week. Both times, same symptoms. Still much burning in throat (although I was prescribed ALA for burning mouth syndrome) and it made my stomach hurt and bloat. No more!"

"My doctor recommended ALA for my shingles pain. I took 600 mg early in the morning on an empty stomach. I had nausea, I started sweating and it was followed by heartburn. I think I am going to stop this supplement. Reviews were very helpful because anywhere else it says that ALA has little to no side effects."

"My doctor suggested I take alpha lipoic acid for peripheral neuropathy burning and aching in hands and feet. It did help those symptoms but my hair loss was absolutely terrible and I don't have that much left, anyway. I had to stop it because being bald will depress me almost more than the burning and pain."

"I've been talking alpha-lipoic acid for almost two months and started to notice my hair shedding more in the last 3 weeks or so. The only change I made was adding ALA and NAC. I'm so glad I found this site, I'm stopping it immediately as the shedding was steadily increasing in amount. Thanks for sharing everyone and I'm happy to hear from several people that once you stop taking it the shedding stops."

"I've been taking 600 mg of ALA once a day for about a week now and, so far, it has pretty much stopped the tingling in my feet. I am currently having a fairly painful cramp in my right calf which is out of the norm for me. Other than that, at this point, I haven't noticed any other side effects. I am normally quite sensitive to medications so, after about a month, I'll lower the dose to once every other day and see how that works. As far as hair loss goes, I don't have much anyway so, if that happens, it won't be a problem for me. My doctor says to try it for about six months to give it a fair assessment. At this point, I'll take his advice and give it a chance. I'll report back in a few months."

"I suffer from MS and this is why I started taking Alpha Lipoic Acid. I was taking 600 mg daily. I started noticing my fingernails were getting really thin. So, from reading experiences other people were having with hair loss. I think maybe that my thin nails to almost non-existent nails is due to ALA. Also, I never noticed much improvement with the tingling in my extremities or any numbness I am experiencing. I have stopped taking it."

"I have had diabetes for over twenty years. I read about it in Dr. Whittaker’s newsletter right after diagnosis. Take 600 milligrams a day and still have not developed neuropathy. My A1C were as much as 10 until I got on keto so it wasn’t always under control as it is now. It works for me."

"I’ve had severe itching of my feet for 20 years. I and my drs didn’t know the cause and steroid creams didn’t relieve the itch. I would wake up at night w severe itching every 1-2 hours. Only prednisone relieved it but my dr was reluctant to order it. I learned that standing in cold water and applying ice Stopped the itching an hour or 2. When I was in the hospital w a stroke and getting ice packs to my feet, a neuro dr said I have erythromillilagia, a hereditary condition that causes redness of the palms and soles of feet, and fleeting or sharp pains in the limbs. I started on Gabapentin which didn’t work. Then a new PCP ordered ALA 600 mg for Erythromillilagia and it worked right away to stop the itching. Side effects are burning in throat and stomach when I swallow it. I take with food snd plenty of water standing up. It causes bad breath like ketone breath and smelly urine. No hair loss as I take Millilagia for HBP. Also take a PPI for GERD. No heartburn. No burning tongue."
