Diamox (acetazolamide) "I don’t like this one bit, the first day I took it I felt like I was having a massive panic attack or I was going to go crazy, I tried to stick it out for a couple more days and take it right before I sleep and that helped but honestly it’s such a pain to eat and take it right before bed and force yourself to sleep otherwise your going to have to go to hospital... it has really red marks whenever I lean on arm, hand. Anyways I don’t like it but everyone’s different so give it a shot :)"

"I've been taking this for almost a month now at 500mg a day. Made me terribly sleepy at first and I slept almost all day on the first Sunday (4 days in), terrible abdominal pains, wooly head and nausea plus more frequent urination. Sleepiness has passed and I've been taking the tablets before a meal and that has helped with the abdominal pain. Still waking in the night to visit the loo but daytime urination has normalised. Nausea is a constant though and I have to force myself to eat. The consultant has given me another month's supply, oh joy."

"Well, most importantly, it did what it was supposed to. It kept my pressures down for two weeks until I could have surgery on my eye. I only had about 5 per cent of optic nerve and vision was bad. Pressures were 40 to 50. Doctor said I had to have surgery immediately, but two weeks was all they could do. Within minutes of my first pill, my appetite was gone. Not much happening except loss of appetite. Then day before surgery,,,,,,13 days on drug….got very sick. Severe back pain and nonstop vomiting. Eventually went to urgent care where they found uti. Coincidence? Don’t think so. Drug most likely saved what sight I had left. I would take it again because of what was at stake . But that vomiting side effect is pretty rough."

"I have been on Diamox for a year now because it's the only thing that will bring down my pressure. I am also on four drops, but they alone do not work. I cannot wait to see what kind of MIGS I can get to get rid of these pills. I experience difficulty concentrating, memory deficits, buzzing in my head, my feet, my hands. I already have tinnitus, but it doesn't seem to make it worse, so that is a positive I suppose. I have some shortness of breath, and find it hard to go on my walks. It brought my systolic pressure down, but my diastolic pressure is still higher than normal. I am always cold, which is very unusual for me, as I live in the desert, and I had problems with heat tolerance. The tip of my nose and the tops of my fingers will be ice cold. I used to have frequent urination and diarrhea in the beginning but that went away. My skin and my hair got much drier since I started to take this medicine. I do feel it suddenly aged me quickly :("

"I was put on this two weeks before eye surgery…….trabculectomy. My pressures had to come down so I didn’t pay any attention to side effects. The day before surgery my back had sharp pains and I couldn’t stop vomiting. Urgent care said I had a urinary infection. It was the sickest I have ever been. The next day after antibiotic I was getting better and had surgery. I know it was the pills that did it."

"My eye pressure in my right eye would not go down despite undergoing the OMNI and XEN gel stent Migs surgery. My pressure was 33 mmHg in the right eye. Zioptan, Alphagan and Azopt all did not lower my pressure. My eye dr prescribed me Diamox and after 1 hr, my pressure dropped down to 20. I am very happy with the results."

Diamox (acetazolamide) "I was prescribed this for eye pressure reduction due to diabetes and glaucoma surgery recovery. I was told to take as much as I could handle, as much as 4000mg was authorized. I was to take it so that my eye would heal properly after the Ahmed valve installation surgery. So far I have taken 500 mg for a week and have found I am shivering a lot. My balance is off and I find myself bumping into things a lot more. I have gone out of my way to add extra potassium while on this drug as suggested in the guide. I think the worst effect I have had is that my fasting blood sugars will not go below 13 mmol/L, no matter how hard I try. I went from 8.1 mmol/L to 13 the day I started this and they have gone up to 16 but will not go below 13. Metformin seems to have no effect at all. And that has me concerned. The benefits of this remain to be seen as I visit the doctor shortly."
