Diamox Sequels (acetazolamide) for Pseudotumor Cerebri "While there are some side effects, and it doesn't completely eliminate my condition, Diamox has allowed me to live a normal life. Most people do not even know that I am sick. I also have not had to have a shunt."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I've been taking this medication regularly for the past month and want to cry. I'm 20 years old, a healthy female, and was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri. I call my mom nearly everyday complaining of a new pain. From the horrible tingly sensation in my hands and feet, to the horrible confusion, and now extreme pain in my abdomen, I'm ready for this all to stop. I'm on 500 mg/daily and can't even operate my vehicle! I am always so out of it it makes finished my homework assignments difficult let alone to constant new pains I always complain about. I am pretty tough but when it comes to seeing my doctor every week due to the side effects of this medication, it's not worth it."

Diamox (acetazolamide) for Pseudotumor Cerebri "I have been taking this for a month and my blood sugar keeps dropping out. I feel terrible and weak all the time. I get numbness everywhere. I have three sons to care for and it's hard. I'm glad most of my symptoms seem to be normal as I have read yours. The pressure in my head hasn't lessened though. They gave me migraine medicine but I'm afraid to take it if it'll put me to sleep during the day. I keep thinking about calling my neurologist. I'd like to know what to do at this point."

For Glaucoma "I was placed on diamox along with other medications as a means of reducing Intraocular Pressure after having being told of having ocular atrophy. It really works, but had tingling effects in my hands and feet as well as the drowsiness/tiredness."

For Glaucoma "I only had side effects for the first 2 weeks. The most annoying side effect was the tingling in my feet and knees. Luckily, my hand were fine. I also had to go pee at least 20 times a day and each time I would pee a hell lot of water. This was mostly disturbing when I was at work and had to get up every 30 minutes to go to the bathroom. My head also felt pretty light and I fell asleep easily during the day. Other than that, it isn't AS bad as the other comments say. I was pretty scared after reading a couple of those. In all, this medicine does require some getting used to. Luckily for me, it passed after two weeks or so. Except for the tingling in my feet. But I got used to it."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I've been on and off this medicine since 2006, I was told I'd be able to stop, but it has has not happened. It helps so much with the IH even with the tingling and taste issue side effects, I don't know what I'd do without it. I've had two spinal taps and I really do not enjoy that experience."

Diamox Sequels (acetazolamide) for Edema "I was diagnosed with psuedotumor cerebrae, hypertension in the brain caused by high levels of fluid. I have been on Diamox for several months. It worked then I needed another spinal tab, they upped my dose to 3 caps a day. Manufacturer and pharmacist both said NO, so now I am back on 2 caps a day; and the fluid is back! I can't take it anymore!"

For Mountain Sickness / Altitude Sickness "We used the generic form of this medicine for a quick 3-day visit to the Rocky Mountains, to prevent altitude sickness since we were time crunched and unable to acclimate slowly. It helped us both sleep, avoided getting ill and suppressed our appetites. We did feel some very slight dizziness/lightheadedness when we first started it, but were able to pretty much ignore it. I highly recommend it if you will be unable to acclimate - your trip will not be spoiled by getting sick."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "This medicine helped my migraines stop, but it caused me an insane amount of fatigued when I started it and when I stopped it. My hands, legs, feet, and sometimes other body parts tingled nonstop. Sometimes the tingle was so strong, it actually hurt. My hands tingled so much so that I couldn’t write, so I had to use my computer to take notes instead. The one good thing from this medicine was the horrible migraines I’ve been suffering through never once occurred."

Diamox (acetazolamide) for Mountain Sickness / Altitude Sickness "I took one of these pills (125mg) to try it before my vacation and I haven't felt so sick in a long time. OMG it was horrible!! It started with mild dizziness and tiredness. Not so bad but by the 12th hour I just wanted to check out. A lot of dizziness, very tired but couldn't sleep, nausea and headache. Generally I felt awful but couldn't put my finger on how else it made me feel this awfulness. I took a meclazine and some Advil and felt a bit better. The next day, I still felt a bit weird but not so awful. That stuff lasts a long time and if you take it on vacation and have my reaction, you'll waste a lot of hours being miserable."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I just started acetazolemide a few days ago. 500mg 2x a day. I had an lumbar puncture 2 days ago and neither have relieved much of the pressure. Every time I take one of these pills I get a new symptom. My kidney function has been weaker. The pressure in my head continues. My body aches all over. The yucky taste....that is the least of my worries. Pins and needles...check. Extremely tired and feel like I've been beat. I feel like bricks are laying inside my hips. This stuff sucks!!"

Diamox Sequels (acetazolamide) for Edema "I have been on this medication since I was 27. They diagnosed me with what you call a fluid tumor on my brain, which causes to much pressure on my brain which then causes migraine headaches, really bad ones. I lived with them from the age of 17 until they did a spinal tap and found out I had to much pressure. I have been on this medication ever since. I am now 51 years old."

For Glaucoma "I was diagnosed with intermediate uveitis 5 weeks ago and recently started on Diamox 2 weeks ago after my eye pressure started increasing from the steroid drops I am on. The first couple days I was much more tired and almost foggy minded. Also had to urinate much more often. Than after the first couple days, my body got very used to it. The only main symptom I have now is light tingling in my feet. My eye pressure was down from 39 to 28 in a weeks time."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I have been on diamox since July 2019. I take it to treat my idiopathic intracranial hypertension. I was getting really bad headaches and my my vision was blacking out. I started on 250 mg once in the morning and once at night. I noticed almost immediately that my vision wasn’t blacking out anymore. I was still getting headaches, which I did t think was going to go away because I have been getting migraines since I was 7 years old. At first the side effects were very prominent. My hands and feet would tingle all the time and go numb. I was always hearing a loud swooshing sound following by a ringing in my ears. It has been over a year since I started taking diamox and now I take 1000 mg once in the morning and once at night. I still deal with migraines but the pressure in my eyes has decreased significantly. My feet still tingle sometimes and the ringing in my ears still happens. I would rather deal with those two things than lose my vision multiple times a day."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I absolutely depend on this medication. I am 22 years old and was diagnosed with Pseudotumor Cerebri mid April of 2016 and was severely sick...had an MRA, MRI, and a spinal tap done. I do not wish this illness on anyone. I'm stuck with this for the rest of my life. This medicine has helped a lot so I will continue on taking it. I do not have any negative side effects. I take 1500 mg."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I was diagnosed with pseudo tumor cerebri almost two years ago now and I've had a spinal tap done after a year of crippling painful headaches, blurred vision, bright red inflamed eyes, dizziness, the spinal tap unfortunetly went wrong and I had a spinal leakage from the high inter cranial pressure with an absolute horrible spinal headache so I had to have a blood patch then put on acetazolimide with the painful tingling sensations on my face arms and feet I couldn't sleep and I pee all night. I take 1500mg of it 3 pills a day and although it's helped clear my eyes my headaches, the wind tunnel noise in my ears of the fluid is still very loud I'm totally off balance and I have forgetfulness all the time not to mention I'm always tired."

Diamox Sequels (acetazolamide) for Pseudotumor Cerebri "I was experiencing blurred vision, fatigue, loss of appetite, lack of concentration and an increased amount of severe headaches. After being checked for everything under the sun in blood work I was told I was fine. About a month later the headaches and the memory and concentration issues came along with more asthma attacks. My neurologist sent me for MRI, MRA and EEG nothing. He then sent me for a spinal tap which revealed I had pressure in my head double the normal. This happened on Wednesday April 21st, 2010 (last week). I received a phone call from my neurologist who said I needed to start taking the medication immediately. I have had no appetite, consistent nausea, and I throw up on a regular basis. So I deal with it or have a shunt."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "Have been on Diamox X 3 weeks. Started on 250mg bid for one week, then increased to 750mg X 1 week, then increased to 500mg bid for total complete dose of 1000 MG a day. Numbness and tingling of hands and feet started almost immediately after 1st dose. With the increase to 750mg, (500mg in am and 250mg in afternoon ) I started getting horrible knee pain in both knees. I still have pulsing sound in Right ear. Constant, remains unchanged. Optic disks and papilledema and retinal damage due to IIH. Have not seen any changes or benefits due to this medication at this time. The side effects are rough. I was told by neurologist my body would automatically adjust over time to the side effects. Not sure how much longer I can continue on the med."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I have been using Diamox off and on since 2009 for pseudotumor cerbri. With the correct dosage I was able to reasonably maintain my headaches. The most common side effects I have are tingling in hands, face, and feet and dry mouth. These are tolerable side effects compared to pain off of the medication."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I was diagnosed on a wednesday and by thursday I had started taking this medication. It did not kick in until the third day when I finally woke up without a headache. However, after one day of the pill I have seen its side effects. All beverages with carbination are now out of the question, they taste horrible. Pepsi tasted like soapy dish water with a hint of bleach and I noticed the tingling in my lips. The tingling in my lips and legs however does not bother me. I just find that my legs fall asleep faster if I'm not moving them. When my lips tingle it kind of makes me laugh, it wont freak you out. Hoping that by the end of the week the headaches are completely gone!"

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I was diagnosed with Pseudotumor Cerebri two months ago and I have been on Diamox for about 6 weeks. So far I have a love-hate relationship with this drug. It got rid of my “snow” almost immediately but the flashing lights and blurriness are still there. Any improvement is great in my opinion. The problem is with the side effects. I have gotten used to the weird food and beverage tastes and the tingling in my hands and feet are annoying but bearable. I have completely lost my energy. I am tired all the time and it is very difficult to find the motivation get through work and do what I need to get done. I feel like garbage a few days a week. I’m really struggling but I am going to try to learn to deal with it."

For Glaucoma "I have Iritis, so to get rid of the inflamation, I was given Ozurdex which caused intense pressure to 40%. The DR. gave me acetazolamide which got rid of the pressure, but caused these insane rashes everywhere on my legs and extreme muscle pain. The loss of appetite is not a big deal to me as well as the tingly toe thing but I have those as well. I've been on this medicine for 2 months and just realized my symptoms are as a result. I seem to be the only one with these crazy side effects so if anyone else has them, please share and tell your DR."

For Pseudotumor Cerebri "I absolutely hate it. Every time I take it I can't eat anything or drink anything with caffeine. It taste like copper or way off. After taking the medicine for 7months straight. I was in so much pain I couldn't walk I felt weak and sick. I took myself off and I felt great. But my eye sight hadn't changed. I delevoped carpal tunnel on this medicine. This is what that tingling sensation is. Get it checked. Remind y'all I'm only 27 yrs old. I shouldn't have all this. I recently started taking it again. And it's all the same symptoms again."

For Glaucoma "I took this medicine once and the side effects are horrible. It decreases my potassium to the point that I felt the pressure on my head and it feels like I was about to collapse. My whole body started to feel numb and I was shaking and scared. (I was about to panic when I felt that numbness all over my body ) but I stayed calm and rested but I can still feel the tingling sensation. I pee a lot , dizziness and I feel like it triggers my anxiety. But this medicine helped my eye pressure. I just took this once and I will never take that again. Earlier I went to my opthamologist and he is kind of shocked that I said I was about to collapse and he said that don't take that medicine because of the side effects. Right now I can still feel the tingling in my fingers and foot. Ijust ate banana and it helps..."
