"I suffered many years with migraine headaches so severe that they would render me useless for anything for a day or two. Because of the headaches, I would worry and be anxious about when the next one would come. As a result, they became more frequent eventually occurring about once a week. I tried many pain-relieving drugs and doctors without success. Eventually, I found a doctor who suggested Midrin even though he didn't know if it would help. He prescribed a total of 6 pills over a 5-hour period to relieve pain. I found that it completely removed pain after 1 tablet. I also felt more relaxed (less anxious). The headaches became less frequent to the point that I might go for a year without a headache. Just having the Midrin with me helped tremendously."

"I've had migraines for 15 years. Imitrex made me sick, so my neurologist prescribed Midrin. Its the only medication that actually relieves my Migraines completely. I know they don't have the brand name Midrin but in some places you can get the generic-Isometheptene/dichloralphenazone/acetominophen. It has all the same ingredients, and works great."

"I was having severe migraines for about 5 months. The doctor tried every medication available. I would only buy 4 because I didn't want to waste money on the whole prescription and it not work. Imitrex made me so sick!!! I had remember from the early 90's when I would get cluster headaches and the doctor put me on Midrin. Out of the blue, I asked the doctor to try this again. He didn't think it was available, but my pharmacy said they could compound it. Again I bought 4 pills, thinking I was wasting my money but desperate. Bam.... migraine stopped within 20 minutes of taking. Sometimes, it takes a second dose if I have a severe one. But, I feel it is under control now. I have fibromyalgia, the migraines are a sensory issue smells, sounds."

"My wife has been taken Midrin for 15 years after the try this and this, oh and try this. "IT IS THE MEDICINE FOR HER". And now we find out they took it off the market. It is the only thing she has taken that has worked. Thank you FDA and DEA."

"This is a miracle drug! I've suffered with migraines for years and I've never been able to find a medication that helps. I take 1 Midrin at the onset of a headache and within 45 minutes it is gone. I have no side effects whatsoever. I can go about my daily routine and the medication does not effect me at all. I highly recommend this medication! I was at my wits end until I tried Midrin. Even Imitrex did not help me. But this drug did the trick!!"

"I've been taking Midrin for about ten years for my migraines. It works great if taken on time. When it was taken off the market I went through so many trial and errors with different medications that were prescribed..finally after almost 2 years without Midrin my doctor wrote me a script for Midrin and told me that I can take it to a compound pharmacy...But you have to pay out of pocket...which I do because it helps me sooo much.."

"Midrin was the only thing that helped my migraines. Normally only one pill took care of the migraine if I took it right away. And I had no side effects. I could work, drive, do everything with no problem. I had problems with other migraine medications, including bad side effects from the generic version of Midrin. But the name brand was great. I can't believe it was taken off the market. "

"I don't know how recent the comments are but my daughter suffers with migraine and Midrin is the only thing that we have found that gives her the relief that she needs to be able to function. I was informed last week that it is no longer being manufactured. We are so scared. I have tried to get it from every pharmacy in town."

"Midrin is the best medication I have taken for my migraines. As long as I take it at the first sign of a migraine, usually the aura and it goes away in about 20 minutes. I usually only have to take 2 for relief. I don't go anywhere without it."

"I've been taking Midrin for Migraine, Tension, Cluster and Combination Headaches for 31 years. Midrin is the only thing that actually works for my headaches and I am still able to function at work as an RN after taking the Midrin. I've been begging my pain management doctor to send a prescription to a compounding pharmacy but they want to play the game of prescribing things that don't work first because this has the Isometheptene which is a Schedule 4 Controlled Substance which is the second lowest Schedule."

"After trying at least ten prescribed medicines I tried Midrin and almost always it rids the worst of my migraine. The nausea and pain and aura go away. I just found out after using my last two Midrin, they are off the market. Wish I knew why or when they will be back."

"I have been using this medicine for the last 7 to 10yrs and it has absolutely been a life saver. In the long agonizing minutes of a migraine, nothing can compare to the relief you will get when you take Midrin and the best thing is that it doesn't make you feel funny or bad afterwards."

"I began having vascular migraines in the 70s and nothing worked until I was prescribed midrin. My rating is for the current midrin formula as it doesn't seem to work as well as it did back in the day when I was first prescribed it... back then it far surpassed 10! It is still an effective migraine drug with less side effects than some other drugs that I was prescribed when midrin was unavailable. It works quickly and, unless it is a really bad migraine, basically allows me to still be able to function once the headache subsides. Currently, my Medicare drug plan doesn't cover it and it is expensive--- over $3.00 a capsule, unless you can find a coupon. Last time it was filled I had a coupon and paid $1.12 a capsule."

"Like previous reviewers, I find the Midrin substitute hit-or-miss. Taking Midrin early or late in the headache seems not to matter; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I took Midrin in the early 80s, and it worked every time, and fast. (the effect was as if my head just floated away, but I could still function). With the Midrin substitutes, the headache just slowly subsides. Either the formula is different or I am, but it's not the product it used to be. Still, it's the only thing that comes close to working for me."

"I wanted to tell everyone that I was diagnosed with migraines about 12 years ago, and I was prescribed Midrin / Duradrin / Epidrin ever since. I can tell you, that it is the MOST effective migraine medication that I have personally taken. My migraines have been so vicious over the last 12 years that I have tried EVERYTHING over-the-counter and prescription, trying to prevent them in the first place. I guess at this point in my life so far, nothing we have tried has really had any true success. Either the medicines I was taking to prevent them in the first place caused more side effects than what I could tolerate. I take 2 caps and feel relief usually within 30 minutes and side effects are minimal."

"Midin worked so much better for my cluster headaches. Indomethacin temporary relived the headache but the side effects of dizziness and fatigue were counter productive. Midrin allowed me to function and I felt refreshed and focused the morning after. I've been on many medications for my headaches, Midrin was the magic bullet. It's unfortunate I can no longer find it."

"I find that Midrin works as an abortive for my migraines when my preventatives fail. In fact, it works better than the triptans (i.e. Replax, Imitrex, Aexert) and equal to Toradol injections. I only need to take one or rarely two tablets to mitigate the worst of the symptoms. The only problem is that I sometimes get a bit dizzy and panic-prone as a side effect of Midrin. I know this is just mental though as I've taken the medication safely for many years. The relief the medication creates is sometimes incredible and worth the side effects. I find this medication also relieves my occipital neuralgia as well. I've never gotten rebound as I don't take it very often or need multiple doses."

"I used to have bad migraines and I could ALWAYS count on Midrin to stop it in short time. In the 1980'S when I took it, it would give you a distinct celery taste in your mouth as you felt your headache melt away. I eventually quit getting headaches...until recently. I was surprised that my doctors were unfamiliar with Midrin since it was so effective. But I was even more surprised to learn that Midrin in its original form, was discontinued. Why?? Anyway, tonight I bought a generic version, which was NOT covered by my insurance. No classic celery taste any more and it took a little longer, but my headache is 90% gone after 1 hour. Not as good as the original but still great med."

"I opted to try Midrin because of it's low side effects compared to the triptans. It works best when taken at the first sign of headache and I find that a cup of coffee not only speeds things along, it helps ward of the sleepy side effect. A piece of bread helps with the nausea that comes with a bad migraine. The best thing my doctor suggested was to keep a headache diary in order to find out what my migraine triggers are. That was a big help! Now I know what to avoid-anything with MSG, also called "natural flavor" and artificial sweeteners were THE WORST!"

"I LOVE Midrin for headaches. I often get tension and cluster headaches and sometimes migraines and I have tried TONNES of medicines,(Naproxen, Diclofenac, Imitrex, Ibuprofen and all the over the counter medicines) Though it is not covered by my insurance, the cost(about $1 per pill) is WELL worth it. Midrin does not make me dizzy or tired. I usually only need one or two, and I have yet to have a rebound headache or upset stomach from it. I have been using it for years now. Ibuprofen does help in high doses, but anything over 400 mg makes me dizzy."

"I have had horrible headaches everyday for the past 18yrs. When I was young my mother would take me to the er for them, but seeing as how I didn't have nausea or anything besides intense head pain they ruled out migraines and would just send me home hurting. I saw my first neurologist 17yrs ago and he put me on midrin. It is the only thing that ever worked for me. I moved quite a bit when I was younger so I never really had the chance to see another neurologist until about 10 yrs ago, and they wanted to try everything else first. I had an arnold chiari malformation so they blamed it and did surgery. After that they said I had pseudotumor and did regular LPs. Finally got tired of it and stopped seeing neuro 3yrs ago. Need Midrin back!"

"Midrin was the most effective medication I've ever taken for migraine. I can not take triptans as they cause my blood pressure to rise dangerously. When it was discontinued I was given multi other drugs to use without success. Now I stick with over the counter and suffer when they are ineffective."

"I've suffered from headaches since elementary school. Somewhat pinpointed it to sinus/allergies about 15 yrs ago since combination of Sudafed and ibuprofen was pretty effective. Take allergy shots, Allegra , Nasonex and still get the headaches unless Sudafed and ibuprofen is taken. My allergist sent me to a neurologist and prescribed Midrin. So far I like it. Took 2 at onset of headache as prescribed and it worked within 45 minutes. Felt a little weird from it. So now I just take one and it works really well all day if not longer. It actually seems to help my eyesight a little and my focus. I was also prescribed a sleep aid but haven't taken any since I really don't have trouble sleeping."

"For me Midrin is very hit or miss, when I take it at onset of a bad headache, sometimes the headache just in time vanishes before it ever begins, then sometimes its as if I took a placebo, granted the drug has 0 side effects for me. Overall, it's worth having if you have back-up drugs for when it does not work. For those of you that like myself get a terrible trifecta of Migraine, Tension, and Cluster Headaches. You probably know like me that no meds really take the headache away completely once you have one."

"This was the first medication I received for my migraines, and it worked for 90% of my migraines. However, the side effects left me dizzy, disoriented, drowsy, and just generally intoxicated and unable to perform normal work. I switched to Fioricet, and it's been a much better experience since."
