"I would say by itself this doesn't work very well, but if you take it with an anti-inflammatory like Advil or something, it works better. I took this for a severe ear infection, and while it didn't totally make the pain go away, it made it more tolerable."

"I have been having severe pain due to an infection in my cheek from my wisdom teeth. I went to the emergency room because it was on a weekend that I experienced this pain and was prescribed T3s and Amoxicillin for the infection. After taking 2 T3s and waiting an hour, the pain still seems to be throbbing. I don't know if it works for different people or what, but I am for sure disappointed and frustrated."

"Have suffered with fibro and arthritis for years. Nothing has helped, including Lyrica, Cymbalta, Celebrex, Nambutome. I was prescribed Tylenol 3 in late September. It's now December, and just one Tylenol 3 a day has helped remarkably and eliminates Nambutome twice a day plus Xanax to help me sleep. Finally, something that helps, and my PA is mortified to continue prescribing!!!"

"My wisdom tooth got infected (pericoronitis), and the left side of my face is currently throbbing. I was prescribed penicillin along with ibuprofen 600 mg. The penicillin takes a few days to kick in, and ibuprofen does absolutely nothing. I called the doc back, and they prescribed Tylenol #3. At first, I was excited to relieve my pain, but after about 2 hours into my medication, I still felt no relief. I hate pills and generally don't take anything on a regular basis (2 Advil for headaches when they rarely occur), so I don't have a tolerance for medicine. Tylenol #3 did absolutely nothing for me. Might as well have not taken anything at all. Garbage!"

"I am in severe pain. I believe I need 2 root canals. I went to the ER, and my doctor prescribed Tylenol 3. The dosage is 1 every 4 hours. Please believe me when I say the pain has not subsided AT ALL. I do not even feel sleepy. Even that would be some relief. I contacted the hospital about this, and I have to go back to the ER to be re-evaluated and pay another 800. The earliest I can be seen by my dentist is in another 14 days."

"Works great for my pain due to a torn Achilles tendon. Unfortunately, with the current paranoia surrounding pain medications, good luck getting Tylenol #3. There are no doctors who will even write you a script for it anymore and will instead tell you to get OTC Advil or Tylenol."

"Went to the ER for fever and strep throat. My back was hurting very badly as well. I was prescribed a few things, but Tylenol 3 for pain. It makes me very groggy and sleepy, and I like that because I'd rather sleep the day away than sit up. Makes me kind of dizzy, but not too bad. Works well for pain and sleep."

"I just had a tooth extraction #13, was prescribed Tylenol 3, and it barely worked. I've taken two within 6 hrs, and nothing has happened. Instead, I feel more pain, and it's causing me a severe headache. Will go back to my oral surgeon to see if I can get something stronger. What a waste!!!"

"Got my wisdom tooth removed. I had a surgical procedure because my tooth was impacted. I had to take 3 pills within 6 hours. It barely worked, the side of my face is still throbbing and in pain. I couldn't take more because of the acetaminophen. Going back to the dentist tomorrow to get something stronger instead."

"Had a bout of awful strep throat, pain in the left side of my throat as well as the left ear, excruciating pain for me to swallow! Doc first prescribed Naproxen, didn't do anything for me except make me want to vomit and stay nauseous after I'd even tried to eat something. Prescribed me some Tylenol 3 with codeine, and within 30 minutes of having a moderately somewhat full tummy, I feel the great effects of it already, less pain, but will be using until my strep has cleared and pain has gone, so we will see if the effect still lasts after a few days!"

"I developed severe lower back nerve pain, which became almost intolerable and severely limited my range of motion; I could barely walk. I was prescribed Tylenol 3, 2 tablets every 4 hours. The first day, it worked great, but the next day, I was vomiting and became severely constipated. The doctor switched me to Celebrex, which did little for the pain. Trying the Tylenol with a stool softener, drinking more water, hoping I don't get nauseated."

"I have really bad pain/fibromyalgia/osteoarthritis possibly. My pain doctor prescribed me this pill, and it has been a godsend. The only side effect I get is nausea. I take a Zofran if it’s bad, it really helps my pain. It helps me function in life again."

"I have chronic neurological pain as well as lower back/hip pain. As I have aged (I'm 52), dealing with chronic pain has evolved for me. In my 30s and 40s, my primary care doctor at the time prescribed T3 as well as hydrocodone and morphine extended release. Have to say, my pain was obliterated, I didn't feel pain, heck, I didn't feel anything. I was a mess and had such a high tolerance that my daily life consisted of barely getting up off the couch. Fast forward to the present. I now live in a different state and have a great new primary care physician. I have been taking Lyrica for neurological pain in my feet, which didn't work well for me. So she prescribed Gabapentin 800 mg twice a day and Tylenol 3 twice a day as needed."

"Tylenol with Codeine #3 does nothing for me. Plain aspirin is more effective. I have been prescribed Codeine several times, many times even, over my lifetime, and each time. It seems as if I took nothing at all. I don't know why, but I just shake my head and even laugh when they prescribe it. After trying it yet again, thinking it was just a mistake or they made it better, again, it does absolutely nothing to relieve pain. I take several of them, and usually about halfway through the prescription given to me by the doctor, I switch to plain aspirin to get some relief from pain."

"Just took 1 300-30 mg as a replacement for the Davorcet, which was withdrawn recently. I used that sparingly and ran out a month ago. I have rheumatoid arthritis, 'fibro', and osteoarthritis among other health problems, so I am in some sort of constant pain daily. My doctor is very conservative about giving me prescription pain medicine, so I am to cut in half and take no more than a grand total of 1 pill a day. Not sure he understands my pain, but I have to follow his orders. I have to save this for my most severe days and when I absolutely have to get things done. Use Excedrin migraine and Advil on other days."

"Be careful not to mix with alcohol. I heard a crash in the bathroom, I went in and found my friend lying on the floor. I asked, should I call 911? When my friend came to, he said no, do not call 911. I'm glad I was there."

"I got my four wisdom teeth out, and the pain was unbearable! I don't handle pain very well, but one T3 and two Advil made me not feel pain or anything! And the T3s made me very sleepy, so I could rest!"

"I was quite sore from excessive coughing from an up-and-down bout with the flu. Took one Tylenol 3 tab as prescribed and was actually able to sit up and move around in bed with no pain. However, it did make me slightly dizzy with mild stomach upset. I would not take it when I have to be up and about. Took it at night anyway so I could rest. I can live with the side effects since it's nighttime and I'm in bed anyway."

"Was prescribed this for dealing with pain after four of my wisdom teeth got extracted. All I can say is that the pain relief lasts very momentarily, and I still feel absolutely awful after. Tried doubling up, and that didn't help much either. Considering asking my doctor to put me on stronger medication because this stuff hasn't worked wonders at all. I'm not excited to see how the next few days will pan out if this medication is barely able to hold my pain back."

"I had gotten this medication after herniating a disc in my lower back. I only got minimal pain relief after taking 1 pill and decided to take 2 at night as the prescription states '1 to 2 pills may be taken.' I ended up with moderate to severe upper stomach pain and slight chest discomfort. I also noticed that as I would fall asleep, I would wake up suddenly with a feeling of having to catch my breath. This lasted for hours. It did, however, only slightly relieve my pain, which is why I rated it 2 stars. I will not be taking this again."

"I took this after my breast reduction surgery for lingering pain. I can say that aside from serious constipation, this works great. I'd describe its effect as 'doesn't really lower the pain level, but makes you not care that you're in pain.' I definitely didn't want to take too much of it -- the constipation sucks, and feeling that 'two drinks in' dizziness isn't exactly fun times -- but for what it was, it did the job."

"Was prescribed Tylenol #3 after double tooth extractions. The pain was handled well. Dosage on the bottle was for every 6 hours, but was told again by the dentist that I could take it at 5-hour intervals if needed. Was only prescribed 14 pills for short-term use only. Served its purpose well. After 2 days, all that was left was soreness from the procedure, and that was handled with over-the-counter Aleve."

"I have needed to get my four wisdom teeth pulled out for 2 years now. And just on this medication until surgery. My mandible, which is my lower jaw, and gums are very swollen and infected, not so much pain in my upper areas in my mouth. My dentist prescribed me Tylenol #3 with codeine and antibiotics. Tylenol #3 is a joke, it does not help with my pain at all, it just makes me very drowsy. When I do rest, the pain is still severe."

"Have infection in back molar tooth. Was prescribed Tylenol #3. Contrary to most experiences, the meds did wonders!!! Don't know if I could have lasted in that pain. I've done drugs before for recreation, so I know I have a tolerance, but meds still worked."

"After gallbladder surgery, was prescribed this for at-home pain management (I can't take Vicodin), and while it definitely kicks in after about 30 minutes, it wears off way too fast. Halfway through my wait till the next dose, timeframe pain is in full swing again. Ugh."
