Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "This drug works! This is going to sound hard to believe, but from the first dose of this medicine, I have not had a single craving for alcohol. I have been drinking for some 40 years and heavily for the last 10. Needless to say, I was completely shocked at the results. That said, the side effects have been a little tough. I'm only a week in, but the diarrhea has been an issue for about an hour after each dosage. I am hoping that will end in the next day or so."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "Absolutely amazing! I am 60 and have been a heavy drinker all my life. At least one to one and a half bottles of wine per night. Two or three bottles per day on a weekend, plus beer or anything else if I was out. After I started taking this, I noticed the difference the very next day. Within a few days, I was having alcohol-free days. Within 3 weeks, I was going for a week or more without a drink but started drinking a lot of mineral water. At 6 weeks, I was not even thinking about alcohol. After 4 months, I stopped the tablets. At six months, I have no craving at all. If I am out with friends, I will have a red wine occasionally and stop (could not do this previously). Might have a red once every 10 days or so but am completely in control. I am still absolutely astounded how well they worked for me."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "Campral has saved my life. I was not able to stop drinking without it. My female GP was very understanding and supportive and sought out the best treatment for me. I am so very thankful. I am, in a short period of time, a new person. I have been alcohol-dependent for over 20 years. What I fail to understand is why more people are not lucky enough to have this medicine prescribed for them. I have had no adverse side effects at all. Although my prescription is covered by my insurance company, I would have gladly paid the price for the treatment."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "I've been taking Campral for 3 years off and on. I keep drinking for the first week, then I just don't want it anymore. If I do have a drink, I lose interest right away, like in 3 beers. I just don't want the booze. But there's a catch, as soon as I stop taking the pills, the cravings come back. I might have to take the stuff for life, but it's better than being in the hospital all the time."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "A miracle pill. I am 4 months without even an urge to drink. Started working the first week. I was passing out most days and had also been to rehab. Also stopped biting my nails. An unexpected help for that lifelong habit."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "I've been on this now for just over 3 weeks, and I can honestly say I have not had 1 single craving. It is a miracle drug that I had never heard of until I was asked 4 weeks ago if I wanted to try it. The 1 downside for me is I have a very bad memory now. I take it and was told about the side effects, and they said memory function problems were the most serious side effect. But do you know what? I don't care about the memory problems because I have got my life back, and I have NEVER been happier than I am now. The stuff is amazing."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "I was immediately put on the suggested 333mg x2 tabs three times a day, as soon as I started my community detox, which included Librium. It is early days here, BUT the change in me is enormous. I drank since 20, a 'binge drinker' or so I thought!! I was unable to stop. I'm lucky to be alive. Once, a car I was in went over a precipice, but still I craved the alcohol. The craving was pure hell. Now at 56, I feel finally freed from a prison of craving something that would have killed me. THANK YOU CAMPRAL. People in AA had given up on me, and I'd given up too, till Campral."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "I have been using Campral for 35 days and I am amazed at how it works. It worked immediately for me, and I have absolutely no desire to drink again. I wish I'd known about it years ago. I'm not an alcoholic, but I was a terrible binge drinker. I don't miss the hangovers or the regrets one little bit."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "After a decade of heavy vodka drinking, I leveled with my doctor who, at my request, put me on Campral. I lowered my alcohol intake for 8 days to 3 oz a day, then began the Campral. I'm in disbelief how on the first day I felt euphoric! I had a therapy session, which is important for me now. This works, why don't people talk about this more. Some said it took a few days, I am grateful. Day 2, feel alive and brave."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "Have been on Campral for a month now. Was a beer and wine drinker averaging 9-10 standard drinks daily for 45 years but had an unrelated condition and although not pushed in any way by my doctor, wanted to cut down usual alcohol intake to see if there was any difference. Campral virtually stopped drinking desire straight away but made no difference to the other condition so alcohol not the problem for the latter. However, I am still on Campral and it seems the longer you're on it, the greater the positive effect it has. Can now have 3-4 stubbies slowly then just lose interest. Can take it or leave now but the good thing was that 3-4 stubbies (normal strength) are still enjoyable but that's it - no more and had enough. Very happy and no side effects"

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "I was a two bottle plus red wine drinker every day of the week. Have been on Campral for a week now. The cravings have gone. I test myself by going to the local pub to meet friends and see if I weaken. Not a drop of booze passes my lips. I watch others knocking back the beer, wine & Gin etc. and I am quite happy with a Virgin Mary, lemonade and bitters or orange juice. I think two pills three times a day is excessive so I'm going to my doctor and see if I can take it down to 1 pill 3 times a day and then slowly decrease from there. Sex drive is zilch and I sometimes feel unaccountably sad but I have been assured that will pass. Here's hoping. Campral is federally subsidized here in Australia so it's very cheap!"

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "After spending 4 days in a mental hospital for alcohol detox, I was put on Campral. I was a 2 liter of rum a day drunk. Now, after 5 days without a drop, I feel great!! I cannot stress the benefits I have and continue to receive. My Medicare/Medicaid is even paying for it."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "This drug is an absolute miracle and a literal lifesaver. Like many here, I tried many times over the years to 'white knuckle' getting sober and tried several rehabilitation programs, including AA. I was racked with guilt for being a failure and my marriage was on the rocks, to say the least. I'd be motivated to get clean, but always found a way to be back to my old, heavy drinking ways pretty quickly. With Campral, I simply have no real desire to drink. While my 'relapses' used to be nightmarish, week-long benders, my one slip on Campral was just that -- a day where I had a few drinks. The next day -- no desire to drink and just back to life as normal. No side effects I've ever noticed, except that I've lost a lot of weight from not drinking (a good thing in my case). I have no idea why this isn't prescribed as THE go-to medication for anyone struggling. Eleven stars if that were an option."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "My doctor prescribed this medication at my request, and it has helped me considerably. I used to drink every day around that 'happy hour' time. I would drink hard alcohol of my choice for that week. I drank about 6-8 shots per night. I have been on Campral a week shy of two months. I have drank on two occasions but did not have the urge to drink; it was a matter of just wanting a drink and seeing how Campral will work after the fact. I did not feel the urge to keep drinking in the days after I drank on these two occasions. This medication works wonders for me and my family. They have me back. I recommend you try it out. I feel no side effects taking Campral. I can't even tell I have added this medication to my daily meds. Kim"

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "I've battled with booze for 20 years. Ten years ago, I started taking Revia, but was taking it wrong and started drinking. Then I took the pill and felt weird as hell; I quit. The next time, I took Naltrexone from Monday through Thursday, no drinking, but got tanked on weekends. This routine lasted for 3 months. Once, I had 4 Captain and Cokes, had my son in the car, and decided to race a Ferrari at 110 mph in a 30 mph zone. I hated myself. I spent $1200 and got a shot of Vivitrol. It kept me sober for 34 days; it really worked. I started back easily but gradually got up to a handle every 3 days. I was out of control, so I went to detox. The day I got out, I found Campral in the medicine cabinet. I take 2 pills in the morning, 2 pills at 5 pm, 2.5 mg Valium, and 5 mg Valium at 9 pm. I've been sober for four months, lost 25 pounds, and everybody notices the difference. Trust me, this really works, and it's easy."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "Just got my first prescription of Acamprosate. I'm reading these post. I've noticed some people say it didn't work for them but none of them say what dosage or if they were taking it as prescribed. So those post do not look honest. Please input your daily dosage, how many times a day and for how long. For my self I will follow the prescription and check back with. God bless and wish me luck."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "I've been relapsing since I started drinking 10 years ago. I tried Campral, but didn't bother to take it as prescribed, often forgetting. After my 3rd rehab and years of AA and counseling, this has been the most amazing medication I've ever taken. I had zero hope it would work, given it didn't before (again, even though I forgot to take it sometimes), but it has been a miracle. I mean a miracle. I can walk through the grocery store, see the liquor area, and not have any desire to drink. I have three particular triggers I cannot avoid and have always relapsed due to them. However, I no longer feel the desire to drink now when experiencing them. I go to counseling and DBT, but nothing worked before. Do yourself a favor and try it."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "As a heavy drinker for ten years, up to 750 ml of spirits per night, I finally turned to the doctor for help after losing my partner and suffering from severe depression. Campral has stopped the cravings and keeps that little voice inside my head that says just one at bay. I have been on it for nearly six months and haven't touched a drop. At first, there were side effects of severe wind and dizziness, but they went away after about four weeks. If you are serious about making a positive change, give it a go."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "Daily drinking for 20 years, been prescribed Campral 2 weeks ago. Don't know how this works but it does, no cravings. Did buy a bottle of wine after being on for a week but there was simply no pleasurable feeling, might as well be drinking water. Long way to go but maybe I might have just found something to help get my kids back."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "I have been taking this for 3 weeks now following a Librium detox. I was drinking 3 to 4 bottles of red wine each day, sometimes more. Since taking Campral 3 times a day, I haven't had a drink, nor have I wanted to. I have been out socially with others and had diet Pepsi. People have commented on how well I look, even those who didn't know that I was undertaking detox, and I have lost 9 pounds in weight. This is an amazing drug. I was drinking throughout the night and day pretty continuously, and I haven't craved a drop."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "My partner has been a heavy drinker for over 5 years now, and within the last 12 months, it officially began to get out of control, leading him to the hospital 3 times for an acute attack of pancreatitis. It got to the point where I was going to leave him because he just wouldn't stop. He also lost his license from drink driving and almost went to jail because of it. It got up to him drinking 700ml-1lt of scotch every day AND going out on top of it before he decided he wanted help. At first, he promised me he could ween himself off on his own (don't they all), and obviously he wasn't successful. So his doctor put him on Campral. It has been 9 days now, and he has had 1 beer with dinner. He says he just doesn't have the desire to drink anymore."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "Just an update to my below comment - it has now been nearly a month and I have still not had a drink. Campral is working but for me, you still have to do A LOT of this medicine - it is not a magic pill by any means. Combine therapy with this medicine is suggested."

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Use Disorder "I am just checking in again. I started Campral and Naltrexone last fall after drinking for years, failing the traditional in-patient treatment/AA way. I am now nearly 10 months without a drink. I don't really crave alcohol. Occasionally a stressful situation will come up, and I will think about drinking, but that passes quickly because I just don't have the cravings or desire. My life is so fulfilling. It's not without its challenges, which is why I have regular counseling in order to recognize and deal with what issues I let alcohol take care of. I truly do wake up thankful for this relief."
