I am taking 200 mg per day of Toprol-xl. Can I cut the pill in half to take 100mg only, would there be any side effects?

I have to say yes I just got home from the Dr I just started metoprolol ER 50mg twice daily yesterday and my doctor said to break my pm does in half. Hope this helps you!

The pill can be cut in half, just not crushed or chewed. However, the doc prescribed the 200 for a reason. Most likely your bp would be higher if you only took half. And change in dosage needs to be discussed with your doc.
