Can you take benzonatate if diabetic?

My husband is type 2 diabetic. So, Of course that was my first question we asked our PCP when she mentioned prescribing it for his post-flu cough. I am a "Check, Check, Double Check" kinda person. Especially when it comes to my family. So i double checked with our pharmacist when we filled it. She confirmed it was "Completely Safe" for diabetics.
