I have an abscess tooth and I already have a script of tetracycline (500 MG) and I'm wondering if it will relieve the infection so that I can go to the dentist and gget it fixed.
Will taking tetracycline help my abscess tooth? they are 500 MG?

My Dentist had me on Amoxicillin or similar I believe and I was asked to halt my dosage of Tetracycline while I finished the antibiotics.
For dental abscesses, the best is the amoxiclav. If it is resistant, clindamycin can be given. Doxycycline also can be given in place of other antibiotics or combined for more efficacy. Erythromycin is given if pencillins are allergic.
I would say the best thing to do is since your already going to the dentist let him or her look at it and make sure there is not anything more serious going on and let them give you the meds that they want you taking since it could be more serious then last time,or you can give the dentist a call and ask they already know your history so they can tell you better then i can.hope this helps
