I am going to my doctor today, and i'm nervous that they are going to give me something that will make these symptoms worse. Just looking for opinions on what medications have helped people get this feeling gone. I'm pretty sure this was all brought on from anxiety since I used to have this feeling when I had an anxiety attack but it would go away when the attack went away.
What medications worked best for those dealing with derealization/depersonalization?

I have been struggling with this issue for the past 2 days. Didn't know what to do and the anxiety was becoming too much. It Came out of nowhere. I don't want to sound preachy I just know I was up for ANY relief or suggestions! I got prayer from a couple of local Christian prayer warriors/family friends & although relief wasnt Immediate, it has gotten progressively better through the night. I have been soaking in the bath tub while reading the Bible (book of psalms specifically) and let me tell you Honestly. The weight seems to have been lifted. I feel a peace. Temporarily or permanently I don't know but I know there is immediate relief. I don't l ow what your religious background is and I don't want this to sound like I'm pushing it on you, merely another alternative idea but If you are still struggling after those pills let me know if you'd like some more info or help or prayer :)
I believe there is power in prayer. I hope you continue feeling relief as all works in God's time not ours.. God is good
Hi i would love prayer please i am in desperate need and i really dont want to tske antidepressant and i believe n god n know he can work wonders. Im just drained and im a single mother of 4 n i just dont have the energy to deal with this any more its been over a month.
Hi amano, I was on pristq for a short while when i suggested it to my Dr because my effexor was not working for me at the time. It didnt work for me but i know that it has worked for others. I strongly recommend you seeing a psychiatrist instead of your reg Dr only because my reg Dr switched me instead of increasing the dose of effexor. I was on 75 mg which is a very low dose. 6 months later im back on effexor 150mg and my depression feels like it is finally lifting. I started effexor 3 weeks ago, i just wish i can regain the past 6 months. Any best of luck to you.
I have a call in to a psychiatrist, but unfortunately for me being time for the holidays everyone is "out of the office" I cant stand this feeling like i'm in a dream all the time so I needed to do something now. I am going to take the pristiq this afternoon when my husband gets home because I dont want to be home alone when I take it, just incase (horrible medication anxiety along with everything else) I have been researching things about it and i've read a lot more good than bad so i'm hoping i'm one of the lucky ones that it helps right away. Good luck to u as well.. I can tell this is going to be a long process but i'm keeping my hopes up that this all goes away soon!
It will work, you just have to give it time. I know that it is hard but as long as you keep in contact with your dr and of course us :) you will be fine. You should be back to normal in no time. Keep us posted!
Hello amano28. I can only suggest, and I've no idea to what you've taken in the past and what you're currently taking (if anything). I'd say a long lasting/acting benzodiazepine, such as Centrax, Librium or Klonopin and along with either Seroquel or Wellbutrin would be a big boost to you. Best of wishes, hope that your appointment goes well, pledge
Thanks, the appointment went as well as it could I guess. The only thing I have ever taken was xanax, and it didnt help me at all, actually made me feel worse. She perscribed me pristiq. She said its one of the newer anxiety/depression medications out, so it shouldnt have much side effects. I'm trying to not look up too many things about it, because I have a fear of medications to begin with, but I also like looking up the things that i'm putting in my system. Do you have any experiences with this medication?
I understand. I've never tried pristig. One of our members, her name is LaurieShay, she currently takes it. If you like, enter her name on top of this page, under members, then you could ask her yourself. Shes knowledgable, knows the world of psychiatric drugs just as well as most doctors and then some. I did want to just add this, that xanax would not have been my choice. Its a great drug for short, johnny on the spot anxious moments. The long acting benzos I mentioned would have worked better, to ease any onset of your physical, anxiety, prone episodes. pledge
what are your feelings on ativan? My doctor told me that I can take that until the pristiq really starts working for me. Do you think it will be just like the xanax and make it worse? Or is it worth trying it. I don't want another day spent sitting in the ER because of medications making things worse..
Ativan (benzodiazepine) is much the same as xanax(benzodiazepine) Both are known as a short acting benzodiazepine. They work quickly, leave your body just as quick so to speak.(very short halflife. The chemical make up between the two are very similiar. Xanax tends to work also in depression, and as well as anxiety. Ativan most never prescribed as helping in treating depression and anxiety. Its prescribed almost soley for panic as well as for anxiety disorder(s).pledge
