what is a normal dosage of ativan? 8mg? or would 8mg put me out?

I am in Melbourne Australia and I have recently been put straight onto 2.5mg twice daily.
Is this a lot for anxiety?

Well i tried to get off xanax and try ativan 2mg 2 times a day and it doesn't works like xanax. For my own experience xanax is the best medication to treat anxiety. Also i discover by myself that xanax treats the vertigo better than any other medication. I suffer from anxiety and vertigo and xanax 2mg a day is all i need to get true the day. I have tried different medications and nothing works like xanax. And i cant stop talking it if i do probably ill end up in the er. Ill been on it for 20 years and trust me i have tried to stop little by little and it doesn't work i end up taking the xanax. So now i learn how to live with xanax in my life with no worries. So don't worry be happy and take a xanax. Also the generic brand is good to.

I think that .05 is enough to begin with. Then you could slowly increase your dosage if that is not sufficient. I think that many people find this to be enough to send them off to sleep.
It's very important to be prepared for rest when the medication kicks in. Keep your room completly dark, cool and free of distractions. Be in bed, comfortable and ready for sleep.

when most people start taking ativan it is 0.5 mg 3x daily im on 1mg 3x daily right not and it doesnt help i think ativan is useless

I have been on ativan for over 10 years-My Dr. now has me on 2Mg 3x's per day and I found out if I don't have it I have terrible withdrawal within 24 hours--really need to get off this stuff before it kills me--or getting off of it may kill me it sounds like --I am very worried

I took 10mgs today at 830am and its now 4pm and their is no effect at all... Ativan is useless trash.

I've been on 1 mg 3 x daily as needed for a very long time; don't even remember how many years. I'll take up to 5 or 6 at a time, and it doesn't do much for me. Unfortunately(?) I'm very/too tolerant (is that the correct word?) and a lot of times it doesn't do much to me. I wish there was something stronger; guess I need to talk to the doc.

I'm currently prescribed 2mg twice a day. It isn't working well anymore as I think I've built up a tolerance. How do drs respond if any of you have ever asked to increase the dose?

That sounds like a lot to take in one day. I take .5mg three times a day. But talk to your doctor if you think that it is too much and don't self medicate with this because like someone else said, you would end up in the ER or the morgue.

Yeah, I went to the hospital while taking Ativan and asked if they took walk-ins.
The coroner was baffled.

buddy 8mg is a little to the extreme i take 1mg 3 times a day..it sounds like you want too be out for awhile be careful,ativan is strong

I was on 5mg of lorazepam a day. 2mg in the morning, 1mg in the evening, and 2mg at bedtime.

"normal", anxiety-fighting doses of Ativan range from .25 to 2mg, depending on the person and their benzo tolorance. 1mg of Ativan is roughly equilivant of 10mg valium, so your assumed dose would be a massive dose for a non-benzo-tolorant person. don't just assume your doses of drugs, it's a good way to end up in the ER (or the morgue).

Ativan comes .25mgs to 2mgs
If you say you are taking 6mgs a day. 2mgs dose 3times a day. High dose
Or 2 tab of 1mg 3 times a day=6mgs

I take half of a 0.5 may have to take other half ,but may not ,never over 1.5 a day am I going to be so hooked I’ll have trouble coming off these I took the now for about a month panic attack’s

If youa have used ativan before or built up a tolerance to it, it will be lights out for you. I currently take 3mg at night and feel groggy in the morning. However, I can't stop taking them or I will be up all night for days.
