What would cause my Dilantin levail to drop from 16 to 2.3 I also had a seizure
I was very sick with flu symptoms and had taken over the counter benadryl tablets. It didn't help much and I ended up going to the doctor. He said benadryl should not be taken with dilantin and was glad I hadn't had any problems.
I had the same thing happen to me about 6 years ago. It was about 104F outside and I had drank alot of water. Ended up in the ER. Doctor could not figure out why my dilantin level was @ 3.5. Then the nurse asked me if I had drank alot of water that morning and because I had it was the only thing they could come up with. Also had avoided being outside because it was tooooo HOT.
please keep a check on your dilantin level cause my husband's level was not right because of his liver rushed it threw to quick so his doc. put he on tegratol and now its good, also if he drinks anthing, beer, wine etc. it messes it up. take care.
Have you been on any new medicines lately? Or you have done something different? Please add answer as a comment if you wish.
Drugs that can make Dilantin less effective in controlling seizures include carbamazepine (Tegretol, Epitol, Carbatrol), sucralfate (Carafate), and molindone (Moban).
calcium tablets supplements can decrease effectiveness of dilantin. , best to keep it a couple of hrs apart. learned from md web articles. hope it applies to you
