I was placed on Wellbutrin 150 for a month no problem..then last week she changed it to 300 and that's when the trouble started 2 days later hives/ rash everywhere. I was put on combo antihistamines and prednisone.
How long does it take for these rashes to go away? It appears to be a pretty common side effect. (Unbeknownst to me until I,started my own investigation.
Help! I have surgery on 9/11and can't cancel!
I have Wellbutrin rash after going up to 300 mgs. Anyone have similar and how long is healing time?

I took 150 mg for 2 weeks and all was well. Doc increased dosage to 300mg and I had a major allergic reaction. From my neck to my butt cheeks... rash and hives. Miserable! Major itching all over; hot under my skin and skin both felt and appeared pink as if sunburnt... with white splotches scattered in between the pink rashes scattered about. I also had a major headache and Major dry eyes. I did some research and discovered that the MANUFACTURE was different for 150 (Activis) and 300 (Par). I went completely off of everything until all itching was gone. Went back to 150, but take 2 pills. One in morning and one at lunch. It is extended release. I hope this helps others who know the 150 worked and want to avoid some of the other meds with nasty side affects, including lack of sexual function. I take the generic Wellbutrin... it has given me back my sex life, reduced anxiety, and helped with adhd. I also take generic for Ritalin. If you are having problems with your 300mg... check the manufacture. Also, there is info on the internet regarding the inconsistency with the generics. I would encourage you to research it.
Dogmommy3; Did your doctor lower the dose back, Or change the medication with Wellbutrin some people just can't handle the higher dose. But we are all different and as far as the rash and what they gave you for the hives and rash most people are over it in 7 to 10 days. But it does not if you're still on the medication. make sure you talk with the doctor that increase the Wellbutrin you may have to change that one. Good luck but it will be gone long before your sept. appt.
I had tried Wellbutrin previous to this time several years ago. I broke out back then. It was listed on my pharmacy records as an allergy.
It took the 300 dose for 3 days for this hive rash to appear. I need a higher dose because of my anxiety/ depression level,,,
Oh yes she told me to stop in and honestly wasn't taking it anymore after having this huge nasty hive rash all over. We will find something else.
With the benadryl steroids & hydroxyzine hopefully it will be long gone.
Thank you!
Dogmommy3; Good that is great, In most people if after an increase you break out like this it is going to keep up. So it's best that your doctor change the medication. Good luck to you.
No I am not taking med anymore. No way. No how. Yes it will be changed to something else for sure. For now I'm cleaning it out of my system. I can't believe how unbelievably common this reaction is after researching it just 4 days!
Thanks Chuck
