Okay friends, visited primary care doc today, ear nose and throat doc says no vertigo, MRI was good to go (Thank goodness) so we are visiting another docyor next week for a VNG. In meantime I want something for the dizziness that will "possibly make it go away or relive it" doctor is okay with that but wants me on low dose valium, anyone out there had any success with valium for dizzyness. I have not picked up the prescription yet so I do not have it yet.

"Benzodiazepines, such as Valium (diazepam) or Ativan (lorazepam), often relieve vertigo caused by inner ear disorders such as Meniere's disease, labyrinthitis, migraine-associated vertigo, or vestibular neuronitis. These drugs relieve vertigo by suppressing the vestibular system."
Be careful with Benzodiazepines as they are very addicting.
yes, absolutely I have extreme vertigo the Meclizine made it worse low dose Valium did the trick
I was dealing with sudden dizzy spells several years ago, they would happen randomly without any notice, and last for 10 -20 seconds. I’d never experienced anything similar so I was concerned it was something serious. The episodes started to become more frequent and I was concerned about it causing an accident while I was driving, walking, standing, working, or other such situations, so I consulted my doctor. I was surprised when he prescribed Valium as a treatment, but after about two months I stopped having the episodes and they haven’t recurred in over ten years.
Valium works best for dizziness. I NEVER participate in forums, but felt so strongly about this that I registered. I experienced severe, debilitating dizziness every day for almost 6 months since July. I suspected BPPV, and went to a specialist but that was not the problem. Had a battery of tests done over several months including CAT scans, MRIs, complete blood work, heavy metal tests, etc. My neurologist finally said that I should take low levels of Valium to see if that would work. I have never taken drugs of any kind and in general I’m against medications. She told me to take it at night because it does cause severe drowsiness. The very first time I took it, my dizziness subsided to almost nothing. I remained clear headed for the next few days continuing to take the Valium at night. I skipped one night and indeed the dizziness returned although not as severe as it can get.
I resumed taking the Valium and the dizziness went away again and has remained at bay for about two weeks now. While I have vestibular testing and other testing over the next month or so since they really have not diagnosed the cause of the dizziness, in the meantime this is working miraculously for me.
Thanks for the post. I will ask my doc for this as well. I've had bad vertigo since July. Docs can't figure out why. I suspect that it's prob anxiety.
I was prescribed Valium for dizziness. I thought it sounded crazy, but I trust my doctor implicitly, so I tried it. It absolutely worked. It took the dizziness away within 2-3 days. Turns out, though a typical dose of Valium can certainly cause dizziness, the very low dose prescribed for this condition WORKS!
I am now down to 2 mgs 2 times per day and it does work. My doctor had me try to cut that in half for 3 weeks and the dizziness returned so we have went back to the 2mgs. twice a day
Update,
Saw a "REAL" ENT in a nearby town, have been clinically diagnosed with menieres disease, so valium is the preferred drug of treatment. He has also given me 3 Decadron injections in my right ear drum. At this point it appears that I will have to have 3 more injections. I am up to 40 mgs per day of valium and 100mgs per day of Benadryl. Still having at least one bad episode of dizziness per day.
Dear papasan:
When I was in the ER the gave me a script of Valium and Antivert for the vertigo and Vaeium. To be, Valium doesn't seem to help I think is matters worse. But th Antivert does help. I take it everyday
I went about a week and a half then was put on the meds.
You know really it was my idea to have a script the Antivert famtily doctor called in the meds at the pharmacy. I seem to be better but I did have mishap the other day subsided on Sunday, this past Sunday.
Anyway I hope you are feel better. Drop a line to let us know how you're doing.

Do you get dizzy when you just stand up or sit or when you bend over or walking? If yu get dizzy when standing or sitting slow down when getting up and down did they check bp stanging, sitting, laying down, walking. Keep an eye out on bp. Try some dramamine it may control the vertigoo but you need to find ut why its happening I heard nothing of a ekg eitherm keep on toop of it don't take the valium the only reason I can think he even thought of that is he was thinking stress related. Let us know try the dramamine best of luck
I need to provide more infor, I had a complete cardio work up, EKG, stress and then a cardio MRI ( the one BlueCross doesn't like to pay for hehe). The dizziness is unpredictable, it can be when I stand up, sit down, turn abruptly, or see movement out of my peripherial vision, it is the most unpleasant riding ( haven't driven in weeks) a trip to WalMart is miserable I am usually sick before we finish and have to find a bench. The other night our grandaughter turned 6 (yay) and she wanted to go to Chuckee Cheese, I was absolutely miserable in there, it is the lights on those machines flashing. The plant where I work is a huge welding operation with 800 robotic welders which is why the nurse throws up a big stop sign when I want to go back to work, I don't weld but I have to be around it all day. Thanks for replying best to everyone
UMM valium can cause dizzyness because it causes drowsiness.
That is kind of what I am afraid of.
valium difinately causes dizziness-light-headedness, slow reflexes. You shouldn't be driving, using machinery, or riding broncs. Your doctor is nuts- run-run 4 your life. What I did was throw the bottle at him. My whole leg was bruised, a young stallion slipped and rolled up my leg.
I take valium for vertigo and equillibrum was a life saver I can lead a normal life now
I now take valium at 2mg twice per day and Clonopin at .5mg 3 times per day. I can lead a fairly normal life but still have work restrictions held to 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week. I know that is normal for most folks but I am a manager so I was working upwards of 60 hours before, kind of a requirement of the job, work has been good so far not sure how long they will remain that way.
