While on Xarelto my husband experienced severe joint and muscle pain. His doctor switched him to Eliquis. His doctor has never heard of such side effects. He still has this severe pain. What can he take to help him?
What type of pain medication can you take for joint and muscle pain from taking Xarelto?

He is no longer on either of these medications. Xarelto or Eliquis. However is is suffering terribly with the side effects of joint and muscle pain. He could barely walk this morning. His doctor refuses to believe him. He never had this condition until taking this poison.

Tylenol is the only really safe option but it’s worthless. I take one 200mg Ibuprofen. My primary gave the ok on that.
I can relate to your question I can barely walk; I have been on Blood Thinning medication for years and noticed a massive increase in the pain in my joints and legs. One of the drugs I was taking was called by its less common name Eliquis. Has anyone else had an increase in pain as a result of taking blood thinner medication or Eliquis or other Blood Thinning Medication.
Why has your doctor not addressed this issue for you? The most you can do over the counter is take Tylenol. Ibuprofen and similar drugs in the family are contraindicated when taking an anticoagulant. You should ask your doctor if the Tylenol does not work about a low dose of Tramadol or similar drug. There was no reporting of joint or muscle pain during the trials. I would recommend that you report the "severe joint and muscle pain" to the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS).
Yes I missed the Eliquis, but an NSAID can be combined with a blood thinner with consultations with your pharmacist. I’m not a doctor so don’t take my word verbatim.
Hello Nitro. I am quite suprised that your pharmacist would make this recommendation. In both the Xarelto and Eliquis prescribing information they make it clear that "using Xarelto or Eliquis together with ibuprofen or any NSAIDs may increase the risk of bleeding, including severe and sometimes fatal hemorrhage". It is considered a major drug interaction and high risk. Also, there is no anticouglant drug that "thins your blood". They interrupt the coagulation cascade, i.e. clotting process within your body. Hope this helps.
I’m sorry but your doctor will determine if the interaction is just a precaution or serious.
For example if I cross referenced all the medications I was on with Drugs.com there are at least 15 Major interactions and I always mentioned this to my doctor and he would smile and pass me the prescription and say “ does your website know what dosage amounts you are on”? Your past history and tolerance to all the medications I have been keeping track of for 25 years?
I learned a great deal about interactions.
Anyway medications and pain management isn’t as black and white as what the drug companies post in writing. I don’t want to call you naive but but I’ve been on more medications in 10 years than you will ever be in your entire existence.
Wish you the best of luck.

If there was a mention about internal bleeding my apologies,

** My apologies for any confusion or disrespect.
I would suggest Arthrotec, Meloxicam.
This is a horrible recommendation. These drugs are contraindicated for people that are taking anticoagulants. Also, how does a drug that is used for GI and stomach issues help with severe joint and muscle pain?
