There is still meds in the shot, but the spring failed
I take Trulicity. I have a lot of problems with the pens failing to inject the medicine. The syringe will deploy but the plunger won’t depress and inject the medicine. I have had to learn this the hard way as they are NOT cheap and the pharmacy will not continually replace them. The company has no recourse for end consumers (patients). I am not a physician or pharmacist and am not giving medical advice. I am only telling you what works for me and how I remedy a failed pen.
With clean hands I literally break the back of the pen off (the white part that locks and unlocks the pen). It takes a little force but it will break off and will not damage the medicine. The spring will pop out. Pull the spring clear and gently pull out the glass syringe. Use it just like you would a regular shot by injecting where you would normally and manually depressing the plunger. Disposal is not as safe and you must recap the needle with the gray cap. This works for me. It keeps me from losing meds and losing money.
My Trulicity pens fail about 50% of the time and it seems to have something to do with refrigeration. If kept in the fridge, they fail… a lot! If kept at room temp, they work fine. But they cannot be kept over 14 days if not refrigerated.
Another option if you’re not comfortable with that is to plan your injection by removing the pen from the fridge and letting it come to room temp before injecting.
I'm not sure what you can do, the mechanisms are specially designed not to be tamper proof and reliable. I doubt a pharmacy would help but a letter to the manufacturers can get surprising results sometimes (even if it is a coupon).
