I accidentally put a drop of Tresaderm dermatological solution in my eye. I immediately flushed the eye with water. What else should I do and what symptoms do I need to watch for?

I'm another of those unfortunates that got an eyeful of Tresaderm. I woke up at 4am, had pain from dry eye, groped around in my bedside table and put what I thought was a drop of Refresh into my eye. Well no, my cat's ear mites were better but the bottle was exactly the right size and shape to mislead me. My eye burned immediately and intensely, I leapt out of bed, still in the dark and without glasses, and rinsed because that seemed the right thing to do, but I don't have a lab-quality eyewash at home. Three days later and my eye is still very painful, tearing constantly, almost swollen shut. My ophtalmologist is still 2 days away.
I reported this to the FDA. I'm sure Animal Health is getting a good deal on these containers, but they shouldn't be allowed to use them for something that's so harmful to eyes, when they're the same as the most popular eyedrops in the US. It's a horrible human interface error.
I am so glad I found this post. I had cataract surgery a month ago, so I am still using drops. My dog had ear infection and was using Tresaderm. Unknown why it was on my nightstand. At 5am on a Saturday, I put Tresaderm in my eye before I realized what I was doing. It burned. I found this post, rinsed a lot and showered. Then I called eye doctor and got the number for emergency. I talked to on-call doctor. Now I have to start my antibiotic drops again since water might have chemicals in it and damage my eye that is healing from cataract surgery. It's always something!
I’ve accidentally put it in my eyes before mistakenly thinking it was my own eye drops. It immediately burned and I flushed it water rite after and it calmed down was a bit red but ultimately there was no problem just a feeling of stupidity lol
My kitten had ear mites and the vet gave her Tresaderm drops. While putting the drops in her ears, she shook her head and some got in my eye. Although it didn't burn or sting I called Poison Control; as I had called the vet hospital and the woman on the phone was no help at all. Poison Control suggested rinsing the eye in the shower, letting the water run from my forehead down into my eye as not to irritate it more. When I explained that there really wasn't any irrigation, she then suggest to just rinse out at the sink to be sure I removed the residue out of the eye and just be careful with the eye and to watch for any symptoms later.
Thanks Poison Control!!!
I too got a small drop in my eye when cat shook head after administering, and it burned immediately. Flushed my eye with warm water from kitchen sink sprayer for 1 minute. Feels ok now.
I just did the same thing so I’m glad I found this post. That burn like the devil!
Just to be on the safe side call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.
Hi again,
Will you be fine?
Yes, all is well. Poison Help Line said I had done the right thing flushing the eye and if the pain was gone I should be ok.
Great!
