I recently was prescribed Trazodone 50mg at night for insomnia and depression. After the first dose last night, I have struggled all day with significant indigestion and heartburn. I've read all the reviews and no one has mentioned anything about these side effects.
Does Trazodone cause indigestion and/or heartburn?

Yes! Oh my gosh… it does so for me BADLY. You’re not alone! I have to take Prilosec 40mg to help.
I’m glad I found this question! I was just prescribed trazodone for sleep and after first dose, I had heartburn for 2 days. Horrible. I have stopped taking it.
I started this med 11 days ago, 100mg. My doc said it would help me sleep. I have IBS-C and was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I wasn't sleeping well. I had some acid indigestion before due to the hypothyroidism and the fact that the levothyroxine takes a month to start really working, but after being on trazodone for five days I noticed that the indigestion pain and bloating were really getting worse. I am stopping it now. Not worth it, and it doesn't help me sleep either!! Does anyone else have this?
I was recently prescribed 50 mg also. Last night I took my 3rd dose and woke an hour later with awful heartburn that hasn't gotten any better all day even after my heartburn medicine. I have been researching all day to see if it was this medicine. I dread taking it tonight. Being its Sunday I can't call my doctor till tomorrow. I will be calling first thing. I have IBS and GERD also so this won't be first medicine to do this.
I have been taking trazodone 100 mg every night and,I was told to stop taking it because I am having severe gastric problems and sever pain after being on a higher dose! I cant stop taking it I have to lower the dose gradually! That's not good for me but my Gerd will eventually go away! According to the pharmacist that's one of the side effects!
I am so glad you asked this. I take Trazodone for sleep, I have been for about 7 years. Within the last year I started to experience indigestion and heartburn. I don't think after all this time it could be caused by Trazodone, but you bring up a point that I have never considered. I would suggest giving it a few weeks and hopefully it will resolve itself.
I know I'm a little late on this one, but I took Trazodone for a few years and never realized that it caused constipation for me until I got off of it. Then I was put on Ambien until it didn't work anymore. My doctor basically gave up on me because as far as antidepressants just stop working and it's like going through the alphabet with starting at A and then one by one, going back to A. I call my meds my "crazy cocktail ". I'm back on Trazodone, I'm afraid of the stomach side affects again, does anyone have any suggestions???
Thank ya'll!!
