Trazodone 50 mg. - Has anybody else experienced EXTREME dry mouth? I'm wondering if the drug is?

Talk about a cotton mouth, this stuff will dry up the great Mississippi River I take the 100mg it's been a little over a week now, and I quit taking it it would chap my lips, and my throat would dry out in my sleep, and I would cough all night it a better drug out there trazodone is a torture drug I'd rather have the anxiety

Oh heck yeah. When I wake up fun tongue and cheeks gel as of I had been spelling wroth a sponge shoved in my mouth all night. It took hours for my mouth to not feel like I'm eating the Sonoran dessert.

I know this question is years old, BUT I just started on Trazodone recently and last night experienced the dry mouth for the first time. I woke up in the night with NO SALIVA at all in my mouth. Luckily I always have water near my bed so I was able to remedy it quickly. Still scary a bit tho! I was searching online to find out if dry mouth was a side effect of the Traz.

I have dry mouth and it's CHRONIC, my mouth is on fire all the time, yogurt curdles in my mouth; water turns into thick goo... I am getting off it as soon as possible as I've had this for a year and my stomach is also upset all the time because of this. My eyes are dried out, I can't talk well, sing, or eat many things; I definitely can not eat in front of others because of the no saliva. I can not wait to get off of this med and have no more dry mouth. I had the Sailendoscopy surgery and I felt better for about 2 weeks, then came back the goo mouth, sick stomach etc... I can't live like this... no one should... I just pray to God for sleep

All of us on pills like this have dry mouth. Its like the number 1 side effect. The dizziness should stop as you get used to it.

Same here. If dry mouth is the worst of your problems, then you are very fortunate. Just keep some gum or breath mints with you.

I mean really severe! My throat closes up and I can't breathe! During the day, I can manage. It's at night while I'm trying to sleep. I also have sleep apnea, so I have to take off my mask, drink water, spray Biotene, every few minutes. I get up crying in the middle of the night, frustrated because I can't sleep and don't know what to do.

Do you have a warm humidifier as part of your CPAP machine? Both my new and my old one have one. It uses up a lot of water in a night! I still wake up with terrible dry mouth, as the humidifier runs out by morning, but nothing as bad as if I didn't have it. Hope this helps - EJ23

Yes, I do have the humidifier on my machine. I've been thinking about it and I've decided the drug just isn't worth it. I'll find something else... hopefully.

Unfortunately I'm on 3 different meds that may cause dry mouth and I need them all and I'm not sure when it actually started. It may have started when I started Wellbutrin XL a couple yrs ago, I take anot her antidepressant at night too for bi-polar but I haven't really checked the side effects for that one yet. My biggest concern for the dry mouth is tooth decay, it seems I've had more decay these past 12 -18 months and I want it to stop. So I guess I'm going to try the biotene toothpaste along with the rinse, but I wish there was something I could take internally that would help, does anyone have any ideas?

Get off the meds. I did, titrated off very, very slowly and gave my body and brain lots of time to heal (it can take a year or two to stabilize). It’s absolutely wonderful to experience life without all these brain-deadening medications and all their side effects. No dry mouth anymore for me!
