does tamsulosin cut down number of trips to the bathroom during night
Exactly what is happening to me
I am taking tamsulosin and was recently increased to two pills a day. It has helped with urination during the day but I find now I am getting up 5 times a night instead of my previous 2 or 3 times. Does this happen to others? I have only been on the increase for a little more than a week. Should I expect this to improve? It took it over a week to begin helping during the day and at the same time I began getting up more at night. I would appreciate any comments.
Mr.Poor Sleeper I had a very similar experience to begin with and then I pushed my research capabilities and my urologist. We did all the testing and determined yes I had an extremely enlarged prostate. The procedure offered locally was not satisfactory to me so I self referred to the University of Chicago Urology team, WONDERFUL, is all I can say!!
I was treated with fast track to the cutting edge treatment which is the Green light Laser TURP, to be VERY honest the worst part was the starting of the IV, after that I dont recall much. I stayed went in very early am stayed over 1 night dicharged late the following day after I was able to urinate on my own. I stayed locally just in case, not a single issue I returned home and I'm no longer doing the 4-6 bathroom visits each night. By the way I'm 56 years old with this issue and they did detect pre cancerous cells so PLEASE GET SCREENED.
It saved my life, getting a decent nights sleep has saved my sanity as well. Take care of yourself.
Flomax keeps me up every night. About every 2-3 hours I have to get and pee. I am awaken by an increase in my heart rate as a signal to pee. I have been on .8 mg for 4 months and look forward to getting off of Flomax while substituting a popular prostate formula sold in the Vitamin Shoppe.
I have been on 2x 0.4 tamsulosin after having taken 1 for several years, taken shortly after dinner for over a year. My flow has improved but nightime urination can sometimes be 3-5 x.Should I consider taking it earlier in the day? I added finasteride about 2 years ago, taken with tamsulosin. I am 82.
First off, my problem is very similar to the above, but I can't find an answer to the above question
. Does Tamsulosin HCL (10 mg) increase the frequency of my urination as well as the flow, or just the flow? I too an up 3 to 5 times a night & am 79 years of age.
Tamsulosin (brand name Flomax) belongs to a class of drugs called alpha-blockers that relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. If successful tamsulosin will help you urinate more normally and reduce the number times you need to urinate both during the day and at night.

If it is decreasing the size of your prostate, it should cut the amount of times you run to the bathroom, because you can empty your bladder.
Tamsulosin (generic for flowmax) is not for reducing size of prostate. is an alpha-blocker that relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. Tamsulosin is used to improve urination in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). Usually, to reduce size, finasteride generic for proscar is used.
