Will taking Hydrocodone cause weight gain?

I have been on Hydrocidone for 6 years now and I continually fluctuate in my weight between 10-20 ponds after doing a ton of research here's the thing. Hydrocodone or any pain medication really slow down your metabolism, makes u hold water and bad constipation. These are all reasons why ppl experience weight gain. Sluggish metabolism means you'd body can't burn off the fats, holding water yiutube can hold 10-15 pounds of water and constipation the same thing. I have noticed when I element water and go to the bathroom regularly my weight goes down. But the catch is it never stays that way because of what the medication does.

Hello there Mavis! I can tell you weight gain isn't a listed side effect for hydrocodone in most drug info lists or on the pharmacy fact/warning sheets but as a long term user of this drug for chronic pain I can tell you I most certainly gain weight. I dont think its the drug its self but the tiredness I experienced after taking it. Especially when I 1st began using it. I'd fall asleep sitting up 30mins after taking it for a long time & even now if its an especially bad day pain wise & I take 2 pills I'm ready to sleep even if I slept well & only been awake 2hrs. It makes me less active so I burn less calories a day. Its kind of a catch 22 because if I dont take it I hurt to much & dont want to move but if I take it I get lethargic & take naps. But this is just me. Some ppl never get sleepy from this med. Talk to your Dr. Take care.

Mavis... I don't see anything about weight gain it does have a side effect of the body bloating in which you should check with the doctor.Monday Have you noticed anything like eating more being this could give you the munchies type thing but eighter way i think you should check with the doctor.And let them know better being safe than sorry... have a good weekend
